i really appreciate what the team at PF are doing. These are some of my favorite videos on YT. I do have a question - can PF claim ownership of government/public created content ?
Theoretically, if another film studio/repository had their own copy for exhibition, there's nothing to really stop them, since it's more-than-likely public domain and also being published for educational purposes. It'd only be an issue if someone was using PF's restored copy without permission, hence the burnt-in timecode.
This is an old post, but I’ll toss in my 2 cents anyway. No, PF does not own these original videos. However, they can indeed charge a fee for their effort to convert video format and then post these videos on youbtube. That said, anyone is more than welcome to spend time, purchase hardware/software to do the same thing. When you convert and then make available thousands of videos, I’m betting that at some point you will be looking to charge a fee for a clean copy as payback for your efforts. The time code is nothing more than their way of protecting their hard work from being copied. Given the old format of these NASA films/videos and the lack of old video projection hardware, I’d say we are lucky to be able to watch these videos at all. The time code is no big deal considering all details.
I can’t believe how much stuff we did in orbit and I knew nothing about this growing up in the 70’s and 80’s….just a rumor of moon landings and Skylab and eventually the Shuttle .. Russia, too, with all their Moon Roving etc
Here's the issue: Tens of thousands of films similar to this one have been lost forever -- destroyed -- and many others are at risk. Our company preserves these precious bits of history one film at a time. How do we afford to do that? By selling them as stock footage to documentary filmmakers and broadcasters. If we did not have a counter, we could not afford to post films like these online, and no films would be preserved. It's that simple. So we ask you to bear with the watermark and timecodes. In the past we tried many different systems including placing our timer at the bottom corner of our videos. What happened? Unscrupulous TH-cam users downloaded our vids, blew them up so the timer was not visible, and re-posted them as their own content! We had to use content control to have the videos removed and shut down these channels. It's hard enough work preserving these films and posting them, without having to spend precious time dealing with policing thievery -- and not what we devoted ourselves to do. Love our channel and want to support what we do? You can help us save and post more orphaned films! Support us on Patreon: www.patreon.com/PeriscopeFilm Even a really tiny contribution can make a difference.
LOL The laughs keep coming! The astronot is tired and out of breath (as he said several times) as if he were hanging from an uncomfortable harness pulling him from the jock strap more than the shoulders. Those rigs are so advanced now, Sandra Bullock had no trouble shooting her movie in one for months.
Another great film! Thank you and keep it up!
Great stuff...you can see Gordon struggling to maneuver without handholds or foot restraints. Aldrin’s EVA was better planned.
lol

Good question, Ask Periscope 🤔

@Bobb Grimley yup just a few miles to the library with a backpack, and the right questions, is all it would have taken…

Great film but that running time clock is pretty damn annoying.

What's really funny is your post, that you could believe something so absolutely ludicrous. Later! OL J R :)
It was sounding rather uncomfortable with sweat in his eyes, hot and worked up due to the difficulties of trying to maneuver without grounding.

The amount of people who believe this crap is mind blowing. Most people believe every single thing they are told
