Great review, I have been considering these as a ride along goggle based on their sizes and cost. Definitely will add an external antenna connector for Omni antennas. 👍

They are great for that, the built in antenna's so convenient and the reception's so good that I haven't bothered with an external.

Great vid! got myself these a while ago after watching this vid and loved them!
planning to do a DVR mod on them. Any tips on how i could figure out the power, ground, video pinout on the receiver? Thanks anyway!

That's a great question. I don't have these goggles anymore to see how they are wired up. I'm pretty sure it's just a rx5080 vrx chip inside of them. I'd search the Google machine for a pinout of a rx5808 and that should point you in the right direction for the video signal. As far as power you'll have to probe around the board for a switched 5v pad (assuming the drv needs 5v) and ground is ground and really doesn't matter where on the board you pick that up. You could even go to the batter terminal if you wanted but in sure there are better places.
Good luck on the the mod, sounds like a fun project!

@@TweetFPV thanks a lot, that was a quick reply! Ahahahaha
That helps! I'll look up the 5808 pinout.
I found a dvr which is battery powered and takes an AV input.
So it seems I'll just have to cut an av cable in half and solder its signal and ground to the RX5808.

Basically. There is a chance that by paralleling the video out signal your video brightness might suffer in the goggles. Sometimes it happens some times it doesn't.

      @@TweetFPV aahhh right I didn't consider that...
I'll give it a go and see how it works out.
Thanks for your help, I'll keep you posted!

I picked up a pair of these used for passenger goggles a while ago and end up using them quite often myself, especially flying in the house or at the bench. Great optics is the main thing, I'm near-sighted, and starting to have trouble focusing close up at my age too, and I don't need any correction with them. Easy to use, good reception with the built in patch (even behind me in the house), and no antennas to mess with or break off so you can just throw it in the bag without worries and they're quick to pull out. Only thing that's annoying is they don't remember the channel, but the interface is so simple and good that It's just a few button presses so I don't mind so much. They're kind of like a poor-man's cobra-S, and for my primary pair I'd definitely try to hack in a dvr.

If these had a dvr that would just be over the top.

I don't love the goggles that I have (EACHINE EV800D), they are a bit bulky and front heavy but they have the DVR so I can record my stupidity. not sure if it is worth the +$80...

Dvr is a must have when flying outdoors. Makes it so you can try and find your Quad when it goes down.
