    Dunno about that twitch guy, but there are disabilities where you can both walk and need a wheelchair, depending on whether your disability is acting up. And some where you can walk badly, so usually use the chair for longer distance things. My husband's kinda similar with his visual impairment. Serious enough that he must read Braille or audio, not so serious that he can't tell bright colors apart or the difference between the sidewalk and the grass by looking.
    Fakers just make life more difficult for people in the grey areas of disability.

    I can confirm game testing (called QA), is essentially playing making sure shit works consistently, so that might mean playing the same segment of the game 100 times, and if you find an issue you must be able to write exact steps on how to reproduce that issue so the devs can fix it. And then when the fix is submitted you gotta check you can't reproduce the issue anymore.
    I've never been a QA tester, I'm a dev. being a QA must be horribly boring and soul sucking Dx

    • @kvant13
      @kvant13 2 ปีที่แล้ว +11

      The number of horror stories I've heard about working QA would confirm that, yeah. Worst part is how shitty they're treated since they're totally disposable given the number of people trying to get into QA, either because they think it's a dream job where they get paid to play video games all day (lol) or they think it's a gateway to getting into actual game development. (Which is like thinking that being a janitor at JP Morgan is a gateway to getting into finance)

      I had a temp job as a games tester. My first assignment was testing a hockey game, I know NOTHING about hockey, I didn't know if it was working right or not. It was very boring. Everyone around me was talking about all the bugs and visual glitches they were finding. I couldn't get it to do anything at all.
      During training they joked if you pissed off the boss, you'd have to test the Dora the Explorer game. That first night I asked if I could test the Dora the Explorer game instead. I was informed it actually wasn't ready to test and that I had to test the hockey game. Instead, I quit Two nights of training, and a third night of a few hours actual testing and I quit. It was worse than data-entry, and didn't pay as well.

    • @paulkoorlander4819
      @paulkoorlander4819 2 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      @@kvant13 in my experience it actually was a gateway into a development role. I think that only happened because I was an in house tester at a development studio where the career opportunities were open to me. In fact about 90 percent of the guys I was in QA with have now moved on to actual dev roles. Having said this, if you were unfortunate enough to be a QA tester for a faceless publisher then yes, your JP Morgan janitor analogy is spot on.

    If it wasn't for the haste of his exit from the wheelchair I would have given him the benefit of the doubt as a significant percentage of longterm wheelchair users have some degree of mobility, my ex's daughter was permanently physically disabled and for the most part wheelchair bound enough so that we needed specially designed and constructed accommodation wide hallways, extra wide doors etc but also hand rails as she could actually walk, though by walk we're talking a minute or more, with walking stick or hand rails, to walk the 5 meters from her bedroom to the bathroom.
    and of course, because she had this we'd frequently get some bellend Dr Google abusing us for using a disabled bay if they saw her unsteadily stepping out of the car and staggering a meter or two to the wheelchair - the past may be the worst but people are the worstest

    • @mrjones2721

      My dad recently had a stroke and is using a wheelchair while he gets his strength back. Technically he can walk, but only briefly, and if he goes down he can’t get himself back up yet. There’s a huge range of mobility between “walks with crutches or a walker” and “legs don’t work.” I wish people would remember that.

      It was said in another comment but he was in an accident and was recovering and going though physical therapy. He was towards the end of it when it happened and still needed it for the most part but he could walk short distances. His pet was chewing on some wires and I guess it was just a natural reaction. There’s a wavywebsurf video where he talks to him and there’s proof he needed it completely some time before he started streaming. Apparently twitch is giving him his channel back because he had receipts to back it up.

    • @outcast170
      @outcast170 2 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      You can tell he had spent several years sitting from his "trucker body", BUT he still stands up pretty damn quick and steady for someone that was "just starting to recover".
      He definitely spent more time in a wheel chair than someone just pretending, but had they not been making some effort to let everyone think he was permenetly stuck in that chair, it would have been a different story. Sure, there are plenty of internet children that would hate on a streamer for recovering from a disability, but not all. I'd think if Simon spent a year in a wheel chair due to some accident, in the very least THIS "community" would not demand he be banned for making progress in rehab, long as he didn't beg for donations because he'd "never walk again" months after successful rehab visits.

      Right? It’s not though,
      because many times during my career in mortgage, people would assume since their lease was about to be paid off, that the lender would exclude that payment from their debt to income ratio. Nope. When a lease ends, you’ll need to either pay the car off, finance the rest, or lease another car. Therefore, the ending of a lease will result in a new debt or huge layout of cash. Either way, your mortgage lender needs to account for that in your debts.

It's a lot more clicks to say a popular disabled streamer was faking a disability than to go back and say disability is nuanced and this guy wasn't actually faking it. Respectable and ethically ran sites would try to correct the record but, once a juicy clickbaity situation gets out it's hard to regain control especially, if you lose your platform and are getting hate bombed for being a liar on whatever remaining platforms you may be on. Part of me wants to side with the guy in a wheelchair. People who know nothing about disabilities believe that "blind" means you can't see anything at all and "wheelchair-bound" means you have no use of your legs at all. That's a horrible misconception that hurts the disabled community.
    STORY TIME!
    Both my mother and sister use a wheelchair. Both can walk to some degree, but not more than short distances. My sister has been harassed by people in stores who see her stand up from her chair to reach an item on the top shelf and then sit down again, shouting at her that if she "can walk" then she should not use the wheelchair space in the parking lot. They think she's just "lazy." The thing is, she has cerebral palsy and can walk around 100 steps before her legs turn to jelly, so yes, she DOES seriously need that wheelchair. My mother is less mobile, she had polio as a child in the 1950s and the muscles in her legs are basically not there anymore. Still, she can walk a little and will get up from the wheelchair to use the toilet at home, since it's a short distance away and the wheelchair is a PITA in such a small bathroom. There's no way she can walk around a store, but she can get up and take a few steps to get a cheese block from the deli.
    So I want to believe he has limited mobility. He obviously hid this fact from his fans, probably because people are bellends and harass chair-users who aren't 100% paralyzed (like how my sister gets Karens yelling at her if she DARES to stand up from her chair at the supermarket).
    Personal opinion: he could have used his platform to advocate for acceptance of people with limited mobility, rather than pretend he can't walk at all and dance around the fact that he actually can stand up from the chair. However, I get why he didn't. Able-body people with zero comprehension of disabilities are quick to judge and would be less willing to fork over money to get a chair for someone they think "doesn't really need it." If he had explained his condition better, this would have been avoided.
    The communal response to him DARING to stand up from the chair just proves how society punishes those who have limited abilities and not full-out disabilities. It's something I try to advocate, and it's disheartening to see just how many people respond with a knee-jerk reaction of intolerance and scorn.

    Zilianop was actually just a case of the internet jumping to conclusions (imagine that) I forget it was either gamerfrommars or wavywebsurf who did a deep dive into the incident. He was injured. But could stand/walk for short periods of time. I forget exactly what it was but he wasn’t totally lying, more just misrepresenting his ailment.

    That last story about Angel is totally incorrect. He was in A wheelchair for two years after a horrible car accident, and while doing physical therapy he eventually gained the ability to walk. Yeah he probably could’ve handled the situation with a bit more class, but just saying that he’s a liar is wrong.
    Look up Patrick CC’s TH-cam video about him. He did an interview

    As a former video game tester, it’s weird but it’s both entertaining and very boring… It’s boring because you are playing the same thing over and over again through all the different development releases, but personally, I ended up turning it into a game of seeing just how much I could crack the new version that the devs released to us. A few of us would have competitions to see just how many significant bugs we could find per week (significant bugs being those which drastically affected playability, either by crashing the game or resulting in a soft-lock, where the game is still running but you can’t proceed because of something like falling out of bounds and being unable to return to the main map)

    Faking being paralysed is not surprising (in the US, at least). There have been people who faked having cancer to get sympathy and/or money. The one worse: saying their kid has cancer and literally convince the kid (in addition to shaving their head, etc) to the point the kid actually becomes physically weak and ill.

    People were poking fun at the first guy because you dont need to read the contract to know they dont want you modifying a leased car. They almost always make it clear, especially if you're young. Its common enough knowledge its popped up in TV and movies. I know for sure American Dad had an episode where modifying a leased car was the side story.

    It is an actual loss (in the US "harm") to be misled on a product, spend money on that product, and then realize that the product did not meet your expectations because you were misled. Just saying, that would be the grounds for the cinema lawsuit.
