Quan Chi, Shinnok and to an extent Kotal Khan, were all buried in MK X. Quan Chi was basically relegated to being Shinnok's lackey, when he's one of the most powerful sorcerers and has purely been out for himself throughout the history of MK. Shinnok is an elder god, turns into an even more powerful corrupted elder god, and gets beat by some chick with "green energy". That plot armour hurt Cassie as much as Shinnok. It makes Shinnok look like a bitch and as for Cassie, she's just beaten an elder god, where does she go from there? Kotal was portrayed as a bad ass, ran through Kano, Rain Tanya and Mileena only to lose in single combat to Kung Jin? killed his push completely, it was hard to take him seriously as a threat after that. MK X's writing was shocking.
Bruh I was fucking pissed when bitch as a Kung Jin beat up Kotal. Dude sposed to be the Kahn of Outworld but he cant even beat up a second string monk from Earthrealm? Dafuq...he is no threat after that. Same for Quan Chi one I saw he couldnt even beat Sonya Blade with Scorpion helping him.
MKX great game and story mode has some cool moments like Scorpion getting revenge on Quan Chi,Raiden and Fujin against the Oni,Sub Zero is a badass in his chapter but other than that story mode needed some rewrites
Quan Chi was so powerful he managed to transform himself from a Oni to a Demon. He also managed to escape the netherrealm despite no evil being being able to escape. Now he depends on Shinnok to be powerful. What a fall.
See I thought that was all due to Shinnok getting defeated at the end of MK4 in the original timeline. Quan Chi had to grow in power on his own because there was no Shinnok. But since there's a new timeline, Shinnok didn't go anywhere, so Quan Chi didn't get to develop his own power by Deadly Alliance.
Love how D’Vorah tried to resurrect Quan Chi’s career with that he allowed himself to be captured line but nobody’s bought it, it was just plain luck that Scorpion showed up when he did and that she showed up afterwards with the amulet

I thought Quan Chi ALWAYS worked for Shinnok? Sure he planned on betraying him ultimately, but I always thought he was the Darth Vader to Shinnok's Emperor. He became his own man after Shinnok was beaten in MK4.
Quan Chi is an Oni who became a demon (basically a smarter, humanoid Oni) and learnt sorcery, and then freed Shinnok from the Netherrealm. So he worked for Shinnok, but spent some time prior as his own man. MKX is the first game to suggest that he actually gets weak when Shinnok is not around- in fact, in Deadly Alliance, he is weak when in the Netherrealm (it is later established that it depends on what part of the Netherrealm he is in), but gets his powers back once he escapes it.

Well, Quan Chi lost power after Shinnok's capture. During this time, Sonya and Johnny were training with Raiden and Fujin. This meant, that they shouldve been able to do battle with the revenants, whom are not much weaker than their alive counterparts.

Tanya’s been around since MK4 and hasn’t done ANY noteworthy shit whatsoever...D’Vorah on the other hand, has killed Baraka, Mileena and taken down the Second Generation kombatants single handedly. Along with that, she easily wrecked the Emperor of Outworld in a fair 1v1...all within 2 games. Tanya has been known for 7, and she hasn’t done a damn thing yet. All she’s known for is that non-canon ending in MK4 in which she is a traitorous thot. They done her looks justice, but regarding her storyline...they haven’t done jack shit. I think what we see here is MK's attempt to westernize the story. All of the western characters took on the main roles(Johnny Cage, Sonya, Jax, Cassie, etc) the problem was that those characters wern't originally designed to take on such roles. They weren't designed to be all that powerful and as a result, it felt awkward and strange to see them beating on characters who were designed to be all powerful. Eastern inspired main characters like Kitanna, Kung Lao, and Liu Kang were just revenants and jobbers Problem is, those characters were designed to be leaders and be powerful. Liu Kang just has so many traits of a main character since he was inspired from Bruce Lee and Kung Fu movies. The character designs and back stories just weren't working well in formula. They tried to do something with Scorpion, but Scorpion too, doesn't have traits of a main character in the same way Akuma from street fighter doesn't. Liu Kang is just too developed and heroic to ignore and it's really weird seeing him in the role he was in. Even though MK was made in the west, it's a very eastern story. I think they realized that with the new story mode.

Its obvious that the way that they do the story mode since MK vs DC really screwed over characters and their power, especially with X and now 11. It made jobbers out of a lot of those on the bad side. At least 9 had very few times big/strong characters were used, let alone jobbed. It still happened, but not to the degree of taking down someone like Quan Chi. All to hype up some what weaker fighters.

Everyone was complaining that Quan Chi was a villain sue. That’s why he got washed so badly in MKX. As a Scorpion fan it was so satisfying to see him finally get the revenge he’s sought for so long, but to see the evil cueball get smacked around and go out like such a bitch made me feel sorry for him. And D’vorah is more unbearable and more of a villain sue and creator’s pet than Quan Chi ever was.

In the original timeline, Quan Chi had Shinnok's amulet and basically drew on Elder God power.
But Quan Chi supposed to have Shinnok's amulet in new timeline as well because Mythologies happens before timelines got separated.

Deadly Alliance was amazing! Fighting Quan Chi and Shang Tsung, seeing and hearing the weapons collide, it felt like an epic battle to me, I loved it.
The soundtracks for Deadly_alliance and Deception and Armageddon are more memorable than MK 11 and especially MK X

All of the western characters took on the main roles(Johnny Cage, Sonya, Jax, Cassie, etc) the problem was that those characters wern't originally designed to take on such roles. They weren't designed to be all that powerful and as a result, it felt awkward and strange to see them beating on characters who were designed to be all powerful. Eastern inspired main characters like Kitanna, Kung Lao, and Liu Kang were just revenants and jobbers Problem is, those characters were designed to be leaders and be powerful. Liu Kang just has so many traits of a main character since he was inspired from Bruce Lee and Kung Fu movies. The character designs and back stories just weren't working well in formula. They tried to do something with Scorpion, but Scorpion too, doesn't have traits of a main character in the same way Akuma from street fighter doesn't. Liu Kang is just too developed and heroic to ignore and it's really weird seeing him in the role he was in.
Even though MK was made in the west, it's a very eastern story. I think they realized that with the new story mode.
No, they just wanted to in a different direction and then resorted back to fan service once that didn't work. Much like star wars.

Its obvious that the way that they do the story mode since MK vs DC really screwed over characters and their power, especially with X and now 11. It made jobbers out of a lot of those on the bad side. At least 9 had very few times big/strong characters were used, let alone jobbed. It still happened, but not to the degree of taking down someone like Quan Chi. All to hype up some what weaker fighters.
