I always wondered why Marge keeps sticking with Homer, even after all of his screw ups. A marriage THIS dysfunctional would have fallen apart years ago in real life.

Good list. But what about the time when Homer became sanitation supervisor and destroyed Springfield? That should be around the top 5. I have not seen either of those lists mention that.

Partly the citizens' fault for voting him into office in the first place. Ray Patterson warned them all that Homer was all show and no substance and Homer proved him right.
But did the good townsfolk listen? Nope.
I'm surprised that Homer turning the entire town of Springfield into a trash heap in "Trash of the Titans" didn't make this list. What sealed his jerkassery in that episode was at the end when he callously throws away an empty bag as the town was being relocated.
Marge's jobs never last longer than one episode. She married Ned after Homer died.
He also stole things while being a firefighter

For me, the jump the shark moment for homer was when he exploited Lisa’s predictions for winning bets.

@crusherm3316: Why, Marge was turned on by the Mr Plow jacket and he came through for his friend Barney [ Plow King ] because despite Homer sending Barney up there on that mountain due to him being competition, he was his friend and didn't want him to end up dead. The same goes for when he wanted Ned Flanders to fail, well in his mind anyway, when it actually looked like that was happening he was actually devastated for him and remorseful over imagining it would happen. Every single character, except Mr Burns has conscience even Homer. You never change a character whatsoever, I don't care if he offends anyone, the character is what he is and should have stayed that way.
It's REALLY a miracle that Marge never divorced him after all the crap he's done

While it’s true that Homer strangling Bart is pretty awful, he has actually not done that in the show in 2 years (not counting that dream sequence).
Homer Simpson never actually strangled Bart as it's a cartoon so it's technically impossible. Just like Elmer Fudd never really shot anything or nobody was ever actually blown up. It's all just pretend you realize. 😂😂
@@sueparras6028 Yet they still got rid of that element of his character, thus destroying his character. The Simpsons should only have been 10 seasons, then we would not had it destroyed by the "permanently offended by everything before 5 years ago" crowd.

I question the number 4 entry. There's no sign that the wishbone had anything to do with Flanders store failing. The entry should be more about Homer's shameful joy at Flanders failure.

Thats more how I read that episode , I didn't think the wishbone had any "power" or anything, more just a means that the writers used to show Homer's thoughts and feelings towards Ned as well as his strong desire to see Ned fail.
@@ProwlingTiger1 Not to mention Homer was actively ruining the business by not recommending Ned every time someone left handed mentioned they were struggling. The wishbone had nothing to do with it, Homer keeping his mouth shut to Mr Burns and Moe did.
@@stephanieclark8327 Yeah, basically Homer contributed much to his own desire and wishes coming true by his own behaviour and actions.
For me that episode highlight just how much a person can contribute to the circumstances of others, some people like to promote this idea that humans are limited in what they can do towards themselves and other people when actually the truth is- a person can contribute quite a lot towards circumstances and situation whether their own and/or somebody elses.
It also highlights the power of strong, negative feelings, we are shown what can happen when a person feels so strongly negative towards another person- when their desire to see them fail is so strong that they personally & actively contribute towards that persons failure.
The lesson: Never believe that thoughts and feelings especially strong ones will have no affect, they can have a lot of affect if you let them.
For not punishing Bart for after finding that bart accidentally shreds Bush's memoirs and trashes the house with Bush's outboard motor
In Homer’s defense he had a beef with Bush.

Despite all his screw ups, his stupidity, and his overall idiotic, Homer J. Simpson is stillnway better a father than Peter or Stan. He learned from his mistake (more or less) and will always do right by his family.

Well it was to teach Bart a lesson, and it truly payed off as Bart becomes Chief Justice of the United States.

@emiliobello2538: The Barbie movie was garbage, it is no loss if anyone were grounded and not able to see it. He was teaching Bart a valuable lesson, because the boy was out of control and needed some discipline which Homer actually found trouble doing because Bart was able to manipulate him into not doing it.
Homer Simpson may not be perfect, but he’s still one of my 8 most favorite characters in the entire animated franchise.

For me - framing not just your spouse but your "still loyally loving, incredibly supportive despite all the crap and hell you've caused them" spouse is beyond low and wrong but Homer went even further by doing everything he could to convince and keep Marge convinced that she was the guilty one... wow that is just....
I don't know which character is the worst, Homer Simpson or Peter Griffin. They are both self-centered, egotistical, and horrible father's and husband's. And their wives always forgive them and stay with them. Lol, gotta love cartoon relationships 😂

The Homer from 90's to early 2000's was a better father than Peter. Nowadays, not so much (and I'm issuing an understatement here).

He's REALLY done such terrible, horrible and awful things to everyone he's crossed throughout the years, and he just NEVER admits his own mistakes and never learns from them! He's such a Complete GIGANTIC Jerkass!
Thats the point, dysfunctional characters are interesting and entertaining to watch, if the show was all Ned Flanders characters- it would be boring, characters like Homer Simpson are not meant for real life and you wouldn't want them in real life either, put them on a screen though (safest place for them) and they become entertaining, and even though the characters themselves may never learn anything - the audience does, while being amused and entertained- the audience also gets to see why certain dysfunctional behaviours would be damaging and or not work or be acceptable in real life situations...

do like they did ease up on the strangling as even if i found it funny even back then knew it was messed up(still tame compared to how peter treats his kids that it's hypocritical by comparison/lois looking really idiotic still accepting him instead of divorcing long ago being just as bad where marge does have rather sweet moments with homer & both do truly show they'll stand up for each other when things get their lowest to set things right like in the movie or the creator saying her actually leaving him would be a sign of the series end.).
lisa on ice(that season had some pretty mean spirited moments from the family looking back.),causing grief to flanders and his intolerance at times were the disappointing line crosser to me.

I totally thought that abandoning Bart in the wild after replacing him in a robot would've been one of the worst. Unless you're not including the Treehouse of Horrors, which is understandable.

- Betting Maggie in a Poker Game
- Dared Bart to skateboard all the way to Krusty Burger and back. Naked. Then made it seem like it was all Bart's idea, which is still believable
