  • Kraken Mare is a massive lake on Titan, a moon of Saturn. In this video I go over the data that was gathered about it through the Cassini probe.
    Intro, outro, and many other clips in the video were made with Space Engine.
    Music:

    2. Kevin MacLeod - Thunder Dreams
    3. Kevin MacLeod - Ossuary 6 - Air

    Just imagine the cold and silence of those depths on another world. It’s there right now, it exists.

      What if there's an ecosystem of alien fish, and a giant alien Kraken 🦑

    • @theliam3786
      @theliam3786 ปีที่แล้ว +15

      @@LisaAnn777 if there is a alien ecosystem living in the lakes it would most likely be silicone based because the oceans on titan are made up of liquid methane however since titan is cold the life on titan would live in the deep sea as it’s closer to “hydro” thermal vents

      @@theliam3786silicon compounds require higher energy to bond. In the cold environment of Titan, there's less energy available than on earth where carbon bonds predominate. What's more, Titan is literally dripping with carbon so why would life be silicon based? It's more likely that life on Titan is carbon based but metabolically very slow growing and slow to evolve. It might, in fact, be an awesome laboratory for us to study abiogenesis. And in a billion years or so, as the sun expands and warms up the ice moons of the gas giants, life might have an "explosion" on these worlds the way earth had a Cambrian explosion of life. These worlds are like potent seeds waiting for a spring to blossom forth with their own versions of life and ecosystems when the energy input from the sun thaws them from their winter hibernation.

    Fun fact: Titan has High and Low tides. Saturn and other moons like Iapetus and Rhea can have a small tug on Titan, enough to cause tides. And it’s even possible for floods to happen as well, probably during storms during high tide.

    • @ameliadiaz8040
      @ameliadiaz8040 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      And, what about Saturn's other mayor moons, Tethys and Dione, which can also have a small tug on Titan, enough to cause tides on its north polar lakes?

    Best space channel in youtube by far

    • @malloid
      @malloid 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      No it isn't. The guy doesn't even check his pronunciations before recording his audio. Astrum, Anton Petrov, PBS Space Time, The Science Asylum, SciShow Space, Dr. Becky, Isaac Arthur, Scott Manley, Launch Pad Astronomy, History of the Universe, Arvin Ash, Fraser Cain, Primal Space, and John Michael Godier are all arguably better. The guy needs to research his pronunciations and be more professional about them before he gains my respect. Channel has potential, but not quite there yet.

    • @malloid
      @malloid 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      But as least he's not as bad as the guy who does Kosmo! Poor feller needs to get a narrator in - his voice and pronunciations (on Kosmo) are laughable (and you will often find people mocking him about it in his comments). The crowded space channel field requires pinpoint accuracy on spellings, facts, analysis, and pronunciations. Otherwise people won't take you seriously.

    Very good reporting. Titan is far weirder than we suspected before the Cassini mission. A little assistance for you with the pronunciation of "Mare". When you pronounce it as you do, with one syllable and the long "a" sound, then it's english and it means female horse. If you want to pronounce the Latin word meaning "Sea", then it's "MAH-reh." Two syllables, and the first syllable. "Ma" sounding very much like the first syllable of "Sorry". IF you're having trouble with the "reh" of the second syllable, then "ray" isn't far off. All good wishes.
