In Brazil we can all say "Gisele" the right way, but we have no idea if we're saying "Bündchen" correctly lol.

@@AmokBR Na verdade, também não é assim 😅 o "ch" nessa palavra se pronuncia como nas palavras "Ich" e "Mädchen", porque nesse caso o "chen" é um sufixo (que na maioria das vezes representa diminutivo). Nesse caso seria uma forma de diminutivo de "Bund" (banda ou faixa), e "Bündchen" seria uma forma de "faixa pequena", mas é mais usado pra se referir a golas ou mangas das roupas.

I can't stand people obssessed in losing their accents and sounding "like an american"(which is impossible, as americans have 64376287346 accents...😄). My heart gets extra warm when I see brazilians kicking ass elsewhere and expressing themselves without worrying about their (cool) accents.

just to educate you all here: Brazilians are made of Japanese, Europeans, Sirian, Lebanese, African and Native Indians. And we are all mixed up between these races. Again: we are not made of Africans only.
Actually you did not mention that: there are 25 main ethnic groups in Brazil. There are at least 20 european ethnic groups included... and you forgot the Chinese. And even Koreans in small numbers, and Jews. And (yes) AMERICANS.
And don't forget about the Portuguese too

Que lindo ouvir ela falando com o sotaque brasileiro. Eu estudo inglês há algum tempo e eu sempre coloco pressão em mim mesma pra soar mais americana, porque eu sentia que deveria ser assim. Mas ouvir a Gisele falar tão abertamente com nosso sotaque e falar tão bem, principalmente, é muito bom e com certeza virou uma chave na minha cabeça.
Sotaque não é uma coisa pra se envergonhar. Claro, se ele for tão forte que as pessoas não conseguem te entender, você pode melhorar. Mas se ele não interfere no entendimento, tá tranquilo.

I’ve seen so many model late show interviews and I cringe or get second hand embarrassment. Many of them- They’re painful to watch. Bat their eyes or have awkward silence,flick their hair etc. I’ve NEVER gotten it from Gisele lol. She has a great personality. She’s even got Conan cracking up.

Não é que ela não queira, mas sim que é muito, mas muito difícil perder o sotaque da sua língua nativa quando se aprendeu o novo idioma depois de grande. A pronúncia sempre fica diferente da de um falante nativo do idioma

Acho que o nome "Gisele" tem origem francesa, ironicamente a pronúncia correta seria mais parecida com "Gisel", mas extremamente comum no Brasil, uma das coisas legais de termos tantas origens

Probably Not even her can pronounce her German surname. I know some “teuto brasileiros” (german Brazilians) and most off then speak their last name in a “abrasileirado” whey (or It is a easy to say name, like Muller)

For me, over 80% of classmates and friends have german surnames. And my mother in law and my wife can speak german. So yeah, my kids are half teuto brazilians (and yes, half, because from my wife's side, it's only teuto brazilians as far back as we were able to do her genealogical tree)

She is brazilian. Now, genetically speaking is hard to say because both her parents have german (or german-like) surnames... I'd say some brazilian along the way but mostly german.

I think there's a big and annoying difference between Americans trying to speak portuguese and Brazilians trying to speak english.
We speak your words with another sound while you simply cannot speak our words. The 'Gisel(e)' thing is a perfect example.
Portuguese has like 4 times more words to learn than english also the verbal syntax flexions are much richer so i guess you lack some mouth/tong mobility thing or some shit like that, its frustating

essa entrevista é de 2005, ela fala muito bem pra alguém que só começou a praticar aos 16 quando foi pra lá, ou seja, nessa entrevista ela tá apenas a 9 anos falando ingles. não é o suficiente pra perder totalmente o sotaque. se ela tivesse aprendido ingles mais cedo, talvez.
