    The tying on hint where you leave the ends of the previous work to attach the new project is simply genius - thank you!

    Absolutely gorgeous shawl! Love the blue and green (my favorite combination)❤️👏👍 I just dragged my old Gilmore X-frame from the garage. Haven’t touched it for 10 years. As I started research and studying I found myself amazed that I had a brain at one time😂 Here’s hoping I can jumpstart it again 🤞🤞🤞

    I’m a very new weaver (and only with a rigid heddle loom) so this is far beyond my scope of ability right now. But this was fascinating to watch and definitely has me interested in working up to a floor loom should I ever have the space for it.

    So at that point in the creation of the V Shawl, you have to take the first panel off but you need to leave a long stretch of unwoven warp yarns attached to the panel,about 32 inches. So you advance the woven fabric onto the front fabric beam until there is 32 inches of unwoven yarn at the end of it. This will then be use to weave the 2 panels together in a V shape at the end. Hope this helps.

    I've been searching for days for good floor loom videos that "dumb it down" before making an investment.... this video was super clear, super helpful and very good! I have subscribed just in case you decide to make more! I'd love to see a video explaining pattern drafts from you or how raising one shaft versus two shafts changes things. That's very missing, shockingly.

    This was my first video of yours, but it won't be the last - subscribed! It takes a great talent to be able to teach with the ease you have, and I know how difficult it is to demonstrate something at the same time as explaining things in a lovely flowing articulate manner. You have a gift. And may I say the camera person was on a mind meld with you and controlled what we saw to perfectly match the timing of what you were focusing on. Well done to the cameraperson! What brand of loom was the 8 shaft you were demonstrating on....love the way the treadles were made! Thanks again for an enjoyable video!

      Thank you for your kind words! I'm so glad that you enjoyed my video. This was done for a video demonstration to use for the virtual Waterford VA Fair in 2020. I'll have to think about what else I might try to do for another weaving video! Have you seen my spinning demo video or the short one that I did showing my young working border collie in training?

    • @susanwithnell5071
      @susanwithnell5071 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      The 8 shaft was a LeClerc with back hinged tredled to make lifting multiple shafts easier. The V shawl was woven on a Schacht Mighy Wolf.

    • @plansandprocrastination
      @plansandprocrastination 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@susanwithnell5071 Thank you for the information, I was thinking it was a back hinged LeClerc but wasn't sure. I've only woven with front hinged treadles, and often wondered if it would be a hard shift for me to go to back-hinged....since I'm so used to my feet resting, and sliding over instinctively to the next treadle (instead of picking up my leg). Do you find it easy to make that shift from front to back hinged?

    • @susanwithnell5071
      @susanwithnell5071 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I have no trouble at all switching between regular needles and back hinged.

    Informative video, thank you for sharing!
    Question 1: Why did you skip heddle #1 for the first thread on the diamond shape pattern?
    Question 2: Did you tie each individual thread to the corresponding threads left over from dummy warp threads?

    • @susanwithnell5071
      @susanwithnell5071 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      If I need a floating selvage thread at the edge of twill patterns, I put te outside warp threads through the reed but not the huddle. Then I go over it on one side and under it on the other to make a smoother selvage. Yes each thread gets tied onto a corresponding thread on the dummy warp. Then it goes through the same dent in the reed and same huddle as the dummy warp

    Where did you attach the weaving measuring string and how so you control it? You have this down to a science!!!!

    • @susanwithnell5071
      @susanwithnell5071 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I attach the measuring string to a T pin and then the pin is put at the beginning of the weaving panel. The string follows the fabric up and over the front beam but I have it running between the beam and fabric. That way, it moves along with the fabric as I advance the fabric

    Thank you for this. The V shawl weaving intrigued me! But my question is about the two scarves in the beginning of the video. Do you mind telling us the type of yarn you used for those scarves?

  • @sharonmurrell9291
    @sharonmurrell9291 3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

    What do you do with all those looms???? Do you do different types of items on different looms or do you teach classes. In Santa Clara county in California, we only have ONE place to take classes and that just closed because the owner was elderly like me.

    • @susanwithnell5071
      @susanwithnell5071 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yes I have different projects warped up on different looms. Since I am a production weaver, I'll do a run of 8 in one colorway and leave the end of the warp on so that I can tie a new warp in a different colorway onto that warp. Saves a lot of time and I'm already sure that it is threaded correctly! Plus the width of a project may only need the 26" loom or may be wide enough that I have to put it on the 60" loom.

    I love this video, but i came here wondering how weaving works after learning about the punch cards on Jacquard looms.
    I see you don't use them. Are they not as much fun or not as effective for what you do?

      Ćao Vladinka! Jagoda ovde, mogu da vam prevedem, šta želite? Ja isto tkajem, predem, pletem, šivam, feltujem itd, imam nekoliko tara( razboj,stan, lom) zavisi otkud smo, ja sam rodom sa bivšeg Korduna, mama mi je bila poznata tkalja, uzgajala konoplje i ja sam s njom čupala, prala, stupala i tkala kao dete. Uvek me to zanimalo i kad sam kupila prvi točak za predenje osećala sam same kao da sam otišla u raj, ubrzo sam dobila moju prvu taru sa četiri niti i odmah počela tkati mustre, sad imam osam različitih tara, šest točkova za presti , tri električna, najviše predem alpaku ali i mnoga druga exotična vlakna i vune kao angora zec i koza, mlečno, alge, lavanda, ruža i mnogo drugih. Ako vam je ovo interesantno volela bih da se upoznamo a ja bi rado volela da vidim i čujem šta Vi radite jer ste Vi prva od naših žena što ja znadem da se intersuje za ovaj divan ručni rad. Ako imate vremena opet Vas molim da se čujemo a ja vam mogu sve prevesti jer živim u Sustraliji već 53 godine. Gde Vi živite i šta radite?
