  • I'm doing more gardening this year because it's so much fun! Over the past few months I have moved house and started doing some gardening in my new back yard. I've also sowed a load of seeds and planted some fruit trees at my new allotment patch. Hope you enjoy watching this year of gardening videos!

If you'd like a tip to keep the birds from eating a lot of your strawberries: paint some small stones to look like ripe strawberries and lay them in with the plants a little while before the real strawberries begin ripening. That way, the birds will peck at the stones first and basically think "oh these plants have really inedible strawberries", and leave them mostly alone once the actual strawberries grow in.
Really love you sharing your gardening and beekeeping journeys with us, keep it up!

@@7sargun I tried it last year, it did work to a certain degree (I found several of the red stones had been moved out of the planters), but some berries were still pecked (should have added a water bowl for the birds, that is supposedly one of the main reason why they peck a tomatoes at least)

I have some bad news for you, Alex; the easily distracted thing gets worse as you get older. I have an office in my basement, and our kitchen is up the stairs, BUT across the hall is the cursed laundry room, and down the hall another 8 steps in a bathroom. So I am out of coffee, and I leave my desk to go and fill my cup in the kitchen. As I approach the stairs, I can hear that the clothes drier has stopped running, so I grab the clothes out of the dryer and toss them on top, ready to be folded. I move the clothes from the washing machine into the dryer, and then I should be ready to get coffee. So I climbed the stairs to the kitchen and set my cup on the counter. My bladder reminded me it needed to be emptied an hour ago, so I headed to the bathroom. On my way back to the kitchen to get coffee, I notice that the postman has come, so I retrieve the mail and a small package, and I should be ready to grab my coffee and head back to my office. But I decided to open the package and its parts for my microwave. I sort the remainder of the mail into junk and keep piles, toss the junk into the recycle been and notice that it needs to be emptied. Off I go to dump the recycle bin, and after that, I can get my coffee and go back to my office; I come back into the house, grab the keep pile of mail, and head back to my desk. I sit down and reach for my coffee, but it's not there. I forgot it. In the meantime, 45 minutes have elapsed since I began my journey to have some coffee. Please keep doing what you're doing. Your videos help with my chaotic life and more bees, please.

I noticed the snail with your strawberries, I had an investation of snails that were desimating them. A farmer told me to plant geraniums between the strawberries and it chased all the snails away.
Another idea is to us epsom salt as a fertiliser. This has made some of my plants flourish, and gave me the sweetest tasting strawberries.
If you want to experiment with those 2 things. Good luck with the gardens, looking forward to seeing the outcome, as well as seeing the bees.

A year and a half ago I bought a blueberry bush that was smaller than yours. Last summer it grew massively, producing lots of new branches and it is now around a metre high. And it produced blueberries. You'll most likely have to repot that bush next spring! My bush is in a pot and one day, when I find my forever home, I hope to plant it in a garden and get a few more bushes. Blueberry bushes produce more fruit when there are other blueberry bushes around them.

You need 2 different varaities of blue berry bushes to get any berries.
Unless a verry near neighbour has a different blueberry bush.

very nice and interesting! also about acidity in soil, my mom uses compost for acidity and ashes to reduce the acidity for plants that want less of it. i think i remember onions want reduced acidity, its realy simple once you find out what needs what. love your videos, keep it up!

I just want to say that you've inspired me to start filming myself gardening (and hopefully soon some of my hobbies)! I also live in a rental situation, but I love gardening that I've always tried to grow what I can in my small spaces.
Container gardens are the way to go if you don't own a place, and don't know how long you're going to stay somewhere.
    Thanks for being an inspiration!

Hi Alex! Great to see you again! I planted my garlic and potatoes on the 10th of March I believe? You’d probably love to grow your own garlic! Get hard neck, hard neck garlic needs long cold to germinate! So it’d be good for winter!
    All the best, Gerblin!

Nice to see a video, I have been following your gardening series and it is by far one of my favorites. Watching your videos inspires me to expand my garden this year and try new crops. I did a small about of canning last year but hopefully will have more crop to get deeper into canning this year. Cheers from the US
