I just saw this, and i hope you get well and recover. Keep up the great work. You have inspired me so much to keep up my karate and martial art in general.
Hope you are recovering well. Take your time to recover at the pace you need. Sometimes its one step & other times its a small step. But each step will get you there. Wishing you well.
I bloo my back out at work in 1995 I was getting ready to test for my BlackBelt, I was seriously depressed, my dream and I cannot even mow the lawn. Don’t let it get you down! I ended up getting my DanGrade in a different style. In six months you Will be back 100%! Time is slow in the moment, but flew looking bac⛩
One finger makes you feel disabled! I felt it 2 months ago when I broke it Now I'm good, still recovering I hope you recover as soon as possible You're gonna make it
You’ve got this Ken. I’m sure it won’t be easy but your training is already kicking in - getting back and facing your fear head on - that’s what warriors do. Wishing you the best in your recovery my friend.
Queen - Don't stop me now. I always liked this song. But I got in love with it, when I watched a documentary about a boy with an illness which couldn't be healed just slowed down. He had pain. The more he moved the more pain he had. But his most important rule was to make a single person happy for one moment every day. He knew he would die. So his wish was to play "his song" on his funeral and to demand everyone there to make a party out of it. Because he wouldn't have pain anymore and dance in haven with them. So you are right. Things can change. In fact there is something changing anywhere in the world every second. We just yet don't know about it. So we have to adapt. All the time. Sometimes it is easy, sometimes it is hard and sometimes it seams impossible. But remember: Who fights can loose - who doesn't fight has already lost. So all the best wishes to you.
Sorry to hear about your hand Ken, this happened to me about 30 yrs ago, the saw got the whole side of my left index finger, after I got patched up I was still able to teach class that night, my finger completely healed with no restriction, hope yours will do the same.
This just means that you will get more dexterity in your left hand. You will come out of this better than you went in. I want to tell you a story. My teacher lost the use of his right arm for a over a year. His arm was in a sling. He had to teach iaijutsu with only his left hand and everything in Iai is done with the right hand as the dominant hand. So he taught the best way he knew how. He even tried to compete, but that was a no from the judges. He had to modify every kata and explain things differently, but he made due. After the year and a half or so he started to use his right arm more and more. There was an adjustment period, sure, and he never got back to where he was, but though he lost some mobility and control he gained a strength and dexterity in his non-dominant hand that he wouldn't have gotten otherwise. Your videos are awesome, deeply inciteful, they make us think, not to mention you bring attention to books we can go out and get, and lets not forget your beard game is flawless. Heal up and we'll see you on the mats.
I’m so sorry to hear this has happened, wishing you a speedy recovery and the best possible outcome.

That's amazing! I'm sure it felt hopeless that he'd have the arm back at some point. So wonderful to hear that he got it back!
Heal well soon
Thank you!
