What happened with the Eagle Rare is called "passing off" here in the UK, meaning selling products that are different from those advertised or asked for by the customer, without notifying them and it is Illegal, usually places would just get a fine for a once off but repeat offenders can get their licence suspended or revoked. Not sure what the laws about it over there are though.
I checked...it's illegal in California to substitute liquor brands without disclosing it. Even refilling bottles from other bottles is illegal in all states because the laws are written knowing that it's very easy to dilute or substitute cheap alcohol with expensive. Or worse a bad batch of alcohol ends up spreading to multiple bottles.

Great video, TJ! Even before I clicked on the video, I knew Carthay Circle was #1. Every time my wife and I visit Disneyland, it's a must stop for food and drinks. When we were there a couple of months ago around Christmas, we racked up a bill of about $300 and it was totally worth it.
I know you eventually found out that the menu was wrong, but ER is a pretty easy find in SoCal. The Costco down the street from me in San Diego gets it regularly and it’s like $26 a bottle. From watching your other bourbon hunting videos, BT just sits on shelves here collecting dust. It’s pretty interesting seeing the dichotomy of bourbon hunting in different areas. I’m sure it means nothing to you, but you earned yourself a new subscriber for some great videos.

I can’t really put my finger on one particular popular bourbon, but from watching the Brewzle hunting videos, there’s a lot that he just skims over because I’m assuming it’s common for him to see it, but I’m all like what’s that?!?! I know he sees a lot of New Riff, but I rarely see that in stores. Pretty much all of my New Riff experience has been from barrel picks from Facebook groups. Nulu was the same but I’ve been seeing it in stores out here a lot more lately.

I really don’t think there’s anything wrong with using high end bourbons in old fashioneds, or really any of the simple classic cocktails. A lot of times it can bring out the best aspects of the bourbon
If you ever go to Disney world. At the animal kingdom lodge bar they have a drink called a smoked turkey which in my opinion is a twist of an old fashioned and was absolute incredible drink.
If you want the best whiskey selection you need to go to the Napa Rose restaurant in The Grand Californian Hotel. They have Pappy, BTAC and Eagle Rare Double Eagle and many more. All the best allocated whiskey is in the wine room.

Just became allocated in my state 3 months ago. So now it is off grocery store shelf and no longer easy to grab a few any day of the week. TJ, if you swing by Savannah for St. Patrick's Day make sure you pop into The Grove. I just had one of the best Old Fashion's there and it's a pretty decent restaurant as well!

The price of the eagle rare tells me they're playing to the audience. They know people who stay there will order Jack or Makers as default and won't know anything about the Eagle Rare.
I’d guess they locked themselves into the pour price being so low on the Eagle Rare by putting it as the feature whiskey in the Old Fashioned. Assuming all is on the up-and-up (some will question), it’s at minimum poorly curated to set your customers up for disappointment. Great video bud! - Nate

Ive had bad experiences with Disneyland Resort screwing me with drinks. I asked what i certain ice blended drink include. They said a shot of this and a shot of that etc. I saw them pour everything i paid for in the blender. Once blended, they poured it in a glass, filled it up and handed it to me. I looked at the blender and saw that it was still 1/4 full. Thats when I realized that some of the alcohol that I paid for was still in there and would be thrown away.
Well done and thanks for the research...think I will find another bar in Anaslime (Anaheim) for an OF, definitely one I can see what bottle of bourbon/rye they use...sheesh that's pathetic to misadvertise like that!
It's Disney. They may have a gotten a good deal from the distillery. Good PR right there. Just because ER is somewhat hard to get does not mean a giant like Disney can't get a good deal. They probably sell a lot of Old Fashioned between the two US parks.
@@LeatherDaddy97 Mixing pappy is not wise even if it makes a superior manhattan, there are diminishing returns when mixing & ultimately watering down products and you want to find the best return on your investment.
They definitely should have clarified they were out of Eagle Rare. It's an integrity issue to me not to do so. I might be like oh bummer if the bartender says hey I'm out of x but I can do y if you like. I've had it happen and if it sounds good I roll with it, if not I don't and no real biggie. It should always be your choice though. Being upfront with me is important to me. If there is a breakdown in integrity on such a simple thing I'm left to wonder about the rest of the operation. If a mistake is made no biggie so long as they own it.

The blind rabbit in Anaheim has a fine old fashioned. It however a speakeasy so there's reservations, it's hidden & there's a dress code.

Best old fashioned here is at Carthay Circle Lounge. Bookers/Blantons old fashioned was $19.50 with a beautiful sphere.
Can definitely agree with that, next best is Club 33’s Old Fashioned
