  • A semi-self-generating patch using a Moog Mother 32 and an Ultra Random Analog module sent through a Eventide Space hall reverb and an Eventide Timefactor on Reverse setting.
Finally, I have a dedicated random source! It's a bit of a game-changer when your music is based on random modulation... For this patch I went a bit overboard and simply connected every output of the URA to something on the M32, and 045//Extraterrestrials is the result - not quite melodic, not quite atonal, but something in between.
    PATCH NOTES:
The sounds present in this patch are the M32 square wave providing tuned notes, clicks from a sub-audio LFO patched into the Ext Audio input, and odd tones from the filter resonance being driven into self-oscillation.
The M32 is triggered by random gates, which also clock one of the URA's sample & hold circuits. The filter cutoff and resonance, mix between the oscillator and a square LFO, LFO rate, and some Eventide Space parameters are all randomly modulated (the Space modulated directly from the URA). The M32 envelope is a very short pluck, and the LFO triangle wave is patched to the VCA CV input, providing wavering, uncertain volume modulation.
One channel of Maths is providing a constant voltage offset for one of the inputs of the URA, but the effect is subtle at best, and so this isn't necessary - the patch can be recreated without any noticeable difference by omitting it.

Just discovered these videos today and been listening whilst working from home..... I own a Mother 32 and have a 0 Coast on order. All I need is some dramatic lighting to make my own videos. Thanks for uploading all the videos 😀

I usually do this kind of patches myself and leave them "on their own" while programming. Not with the same mastery as you, ofc. It's kind of amazing to feel that I have listened to music that nobody will hear ever again while getting mad at Java

So cool, love the sounds you get. Definitely could score the exploration of a drifting starship.

Terrific! Also, beautifully recorded. Well done!

I’m thinking of expanding my Mother 32 and Grandmother into modular but I’ve read the fact that modular tends to be 0-10cv (or in the case of Mutable -2 to plus 7) while Moog is -5 to plus 5 can cause issues. Have you found any problems with that? Great track btw :)

There's absolutely no problem with connecting your M32 to modules, that's the whole point of it! Can't speak for the Grandmother as I don't have one, but I imagine it's the same. There are no issues with voltage ranges that I've discovered, and if there are it won't cause any damage to modules.

Very random and great for it. Are we looking at probability here. Excellent work.

The gate output of the URA is based on probability, and that is clocking the M32 and another S&H, so partly yes!

So... has anybody decoded the encrypted message? 😂 Nice patch 🌸

Great.... One question, how do you patch "the space directly modulated from the URA"?

The eventide space has an expression pedal input, so I can patch a cable from the URA straight into it with a minijack-to-jack adapter :)

@@AlastairWilsonMusic Great idea :-D ... So then I better go with an external Reverb than a module.. Thanks.

Check out my video 022//Electric Dust, I did loads of Space shimmer reverb modulation on it, you might enjoy!
