Some interesting things about Michelangelo. He was socially inept and could barely take care of himself. He had behavior similar to autism(though I'm not going to try to diagnose someone that's been dead hundreds of years). Most of his needs where handled by his father, who also booked all of his gigs. His father got him the job of painting The Sistine Chapel despite Michelangelo's severe protest. As it turns out Michelangelo hated painting and much preferred sculpting. While working on the Chapel he would write letters to his father, complaining about how he hated this job so much and he would sign all of his letters during this as "Michelangelo, The Sculptor".

Looking at his work on the famous statue of David (or other statues) compared to his paintings, you can definitely see where his passion was.

Michelangelo also did all kinds of shit, He also got into a fight with the priest of the chapel as originally Michelangelo's dad pitched the idea that he would be laying down on the scafold to paint the ceiling (which we do now for renovations) but the priest protested and forced michelangelo to stand and lean backwards to paint the ceiling ("as no man does god's work on his back") and the priest made him repaint several sections to add in clothes to naked people in various places. This lead to several times where Michelangelo would just run away and his father and the medicis would chase him down and drag him back. So when it came time to paint hell he depicted that priest as the Devil. He was made to change it but each change was more of a caricature of the priest until it was what we see now.
In some of his sculptors he would chisele "to be completed by Michelangelo"

The mona lisa is famous to this extent because it was stolen once. Thats basically it. Before that it was not that well known.

Yeah, its mostly famous for being stolen then returned by a rich guy. its still was Leonardo's "fun painting" where he would test out ideas

And you always are adding some interesting stuff to it , some facts , anecdotes or entire physics lessons and i love it

I always have to say this when someone brings up "Saturn Devouring His Son". It was NOT a "painting" in a traditional sense, because Goya painted it directly on the walls of his house alongside other 13 pieces that are dubbed the "Black Paintings" while suffering from an unknown illness and isloating himself from the world. This goes above and beyond simply not wanting your paintings to be seen, and somehow makes the piece more disturbing. These were removed from the walls and pretty much glued to a canvas before being simply "copied" to a canvas later, surviving to this day thanks to that. But yeah, that "painting" is fucking metal.

I am repeatedly reminded in watching your videos, that you are one of the most well rounded and well educated individuals on this platform. I guess im just used to seeing myopic creators saying dumb stuff all the time. But you remind me that people on here can have more than two brain cells to rub together.
This intelligence especially comes out during these internet historian videos, and you always have interesting insight into the current topic at hand.
what im trying to say is, you do gud job **thumbs up**

The only reason the Mona Lisa is truly famous is because it was once stolen from the Louvre in an art heist in 1911. At the time, it was so insignificant that people didn’t even notice it was missing until a museum guest asked where it was two days later. The police created a wide scale campaign to find it, including putting up pictures of it around France. It became so popular that people we going to the Louvre just to see where the painting used to be. It was found two years later when the thief tried to sell it. After that, millions of people started visiting it to see “the painting that had captivated the world” and it started getting critical acclaim

I kinda want him to react to Gigguk's "Badly explaining Fate series in 30 mins". He does know a lot about myths, legends, history and gods. I'm not saying it to make him watch the fate series or play the games but just purely curious about his reaction.

The thing that fucks me up the most about Goya's "Black Paitings" is the fact that, if you take a good look at that, they are not scary, the are just depressing: especially the Saturn one, if certain interpretations to be believed.
also, if anyone is curious, Dali was like, a fascist - a full-on one too - so read about that if you are curious.

As soon as you started saying "doesn't this guy bare a striking resemblance to..." I immediately thought, "oh, sean astin".
pretty much all I know about Michelangelo (other then being the second best turtle after Donetello), i learned from the movie "The Agony & The Ecstasy" with Charlton Heston that we watched in art class in high school. tho, the only thing i specifically remember from it is,
"When will there be an end?"
    "When I Am Finished!"
which i try to use at every possible opportunity.

The funny thing about the Mona Lisa is that it was stolen once and only until the security reported it missing did the museum realize it had gone missing. The reason it's famous has to do with missinformation and old school clickbait. When it returned two years later the media had a field day with it and made it famous

If you think about it a little bit, you will find out that michel angelo is the first person to come up with Jojo BA Part 0. And no, just like his sexuality, we will never truly know if that was the case. The man was born 20~ish years after davinci and said "pff! I will end this man's whole carrer" and he did so, by exceeding with his art... and 40y of jojo shitposting in the late 15th century

Van Gogh was extremely depressed. Please don’t hit him with anymore
TW: suicide for if you look up his life. Well, there’s a theory that he was murdered, but it’s a stretch. Plus he lived for a bit after and didn’t tell his family who had come to be with him? His last words were about suffering ending with him, not “Martin shot me” or whatever.
