    Not just for Metal/hard rock singers. All singers should study Ronnie for the proper way to sing.

      He was a trumpet player. He treated his voice like a horn.

      And he never even had vocal training and still became one of the absolute top metal singers of all time. And also like he said in this very interview, he only reluctantly became a singer when there was no one else.

    Hey Ronnie, what was the INITIAL split with Sabbath about in 1982? NOT the second split with Sabbath after Dehumanizer in the 90’s…

      Live Evil?

    • @vbassone
      @vbassone 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yes Live Evil. But the point I was making is that we never REALLY got the whole story of what actually happened during the mixing of Live Evil which suppoesedly caused the split between Iommi/gteezer and Dio.@@FortessofShred

      @vbassone Ronnie James Dio had already signed a deal with WB records in 1982 before the mixing of Live Evil which was being mixed by a producer who was drinking heavily at that time. I saw Sabbath on Feb 16th and 26th in Greensboro and Charlotte NC Mob Rules tour 1982 and Dio was talking with the guitarist for Doc Holliday about collaborating on his solo album long before the mixing of the Live Evil double live album.

      @vbassone 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@richardhincemon Ok, well that just makes my case even stronger! If Dio ALREADY had signed to WB records as a solo artist BEFORE "Live Evil" was mixed and released then it is only MORE believable that he was turning his vocal up and turning the guitar and bass down like Geezer and Tony have ALWAYS maintained. I believe THEM not Dio. Dio was a little Napolean dictator who tried to a wrestle more and more control from the FOUNDERS and LEADERS of both RAINBOW (Blackmore) and Black Sabbath (Tony and Geezer.) He is a hypocrite. He plays the nice guy on the outside, in the public persona he tried to build for himself, but really behind the scenes he was a ruthless power hungry control freak. FUCK HIM!. The Ozzy-era of Sabbath was the best Sabbath anyway, and NO, Heaven and Hell (great album) is NOT Sabbath's best record. Sabbath Bloody Sabbath, Vol.4 and Sabotage are the best Sabbath records. Mob Rules is also very good but not in the top 3-4.

      @vbassone First time I saw Sabbath was in 1972 Charlotte NC Park Center when Ozzy Osborne taped the lyrics to his microphone stand before he started using telepromters and saw them again in 75 Greensboro NC Sabotage tour in 77 Charlotte NC T.E . tour good shows and Ozzy Osborne was entertaining. When I saw Sabbath with Ronnie James Dio vocals and Vinny Appice on drums Sept 26th Charlotte NC Heaven and Hell tour they were phenomenal and Vinny Appice monster drums did a great tribute to John Bonham who passed away on September 25th and was a great friend of Tony Iommi was one of the best concerts along with The Who 1976 Greensboro NC great live band. No disrespect for Ozzy but Dio with Sabbath was a great band wish they could have done more albums but glad they got back together for Dehumanizer and The Devil You Know. Long live Rock 'n' Roll .

    1997, when he was trying to rationalize and justify making music that was pandering to the times.

    I find it VERY interesting that Dio NEVER mentions two incidents, one with Blackmore and one with Geezer and Iommi which led to his exit from Rainbow and Sabbath. 1. Blackmore said that one day Dio stormed into a rehearsal room where Ritchie was working on some guitar things and his amps, and Dio said to him referencing a recent press release photoshoot for an upcoming Rainbow albnum; "Why are YOU the only one in this picture? We are a band etc etc." Keep in mind Ritchie did not INTENTIONALLY keep the other members from this photoshoot, but was asked by the photographers to do this. It was not a calculated decision by Blackmore to exclude ANYONE from the shoot. Blackmore said that he suddenly saw Dio in a different light, as a bitter and angry man that he knew from that moment on he wouldn't be able to work with anymore. BLACKMORE's words from a video interview, not my words! Blackmore stated that the way he stormed in at him and yelled this at him was the end of their relationship, NOT the conversation that Dio had with Roger Glover that he mentions here in this interview with Steve Rosen about writing love songs. Of course the love song thing was a dealbreaker for Dio and he truly didn't want any part of that and rightfully so. But, this incident with Blackmore about the magazine/record/photoshoot was BEFORE that Glover incident about love songs. Dio NEVER mentioned this! 2. I find it interesting that Dio NEVER mentions in this interview about the falling out with Iommi and Geezer in 1982 over the mixing of the Live Evil record. Iommi AND Geezer said that Dio would come into the studio where the mixing sessions for Live Evil were taking place at times that they weren't in there and turn his vocals up to a disproportionate level that was far louder than the instruments. Dio NEVER mentions this IN THIS interview when he is asked very pointedly by Rosen about the reason(s) he parted with Sabbath....... He makes it sound like the ONLY reason he parted ways in 1982 with Sabbath was because of the two gigs where he was asked to open for Ozzy's band with Sabbath. NEVER MENTIONED EITHER OF THESE TWO THINGS. ARE BLACKMORE, IOMMI, AND BUTLER ALL LIARS??? NOOOOOO THEY AREN'T! Dio was egotistical and basically tried to gain more and more control of all the bands he JOINED, not FOUNDED, Rainbow and Black sabbath, and the FOUNDERS of both those bands said; "Oh no you don't."

      About this stuff involving Ronnie,,,,I heard that story from Ritchie interviews on more than one occasion. I think by 1978 both Ronnie and Ritchie had very strong ideas about how the band should sound & were two very strong characters who started pulling in different directions during & after the Long Live Rock & Roll album.....Ronnie may have jumped to an incorrect conclusion & reacted angrily by assuming Ritchie was involved in the decision to only have himself on the cover of Circus Magazine when in reality Ritchie was NOT involved in that decision....But then by that time Ronnie had put his stamp so much on the band's sound with his vocals & writing that I can understand him being angry about the magazine's decision......... but he should have inquired whether or not Ritchie was involved BEFORE he reacted. I also believe that Ritchie was complaining about Ronnie's wife WENDY being allegedly involved in decisions but I don't think Ritchie should have brought up the subject of Wendy because that could also have alienated Ronnie creating a fracture.....On the Sabbath stuff around the mixing on Live Evil in 1982 (Which as recently had a new re-mix & re-release) I believe Ronnie DID speak about this in the 1998 BBC Documentary ROCK FAMILY TREES 'Sabbath Bloody Sabbath'.....In the documentary Ronnie said - 'The engineer working on the project was drinking a lot. And this engineer was telling Tony and Geezer that Vinnie the drummer & Myself were going into the studio & turning UP the faders on the drums and the vocals.' ........Geezer then said - ' I came & listened to the mix the next day & said -What the hell has happened to the guitar & bass ? ...They are submerged in the other tracks. '. ....Then Geezer claimed the engineer had said -'Ronnie changed it all' ......When Tony & Geezer confronted Ronnie about it Ronnie denied doing ANYTHING like that....In the interview in 1998 Ronnie even said - ' I Couldn't understand why they would both listen to an IDIOT who was drinking a bottle of Jack Daniels every day. It made no sense to me' ....At the TIME in 1982 the others couldn't have believed poor Ronnie because they both promptly BANNED him from the studio....& then the band just broke up....But years later in 1998 Geezer gave Ronnie the benefit of the doubt when he said of the situation - 'Something was up....Whether the engineer was a NUTTER and doing it all HIMSELF & lying that it was Ronnie doing it'.

      @@walterevans2118 Yeah I know the interview you refer to where Ronnie DENIES messing with the mix on Live Evil. THAT DOESN'T MEAN HE WASN"T MESSING WITH THE FADERS AND SIMPLY BLAMING THE ENGINEER because he DENIED doing it! You BELIEVE Ronnie or you BELIEVE Tony and Geezer. Guess what?? I BELIEVE Tony and Geezer! And I believe BLACKMORE in the other situation. RJD was about HIMSELF first, nobody else. Remember that! He would step over people to get WHATEVER he wanted career wise. Rainbow was RITCHIE BLACKMORE'S band, not Ronnies, and Black Sabbath was FOUNDED by Geezer and Tony, NOT RONNIE! THEY make the decisions in the bands THEY FOUNDED, not Ronnie. Ok?

      @@vbassone I would agree that Ritchie founded Rainbow & Tony & Geezer founded Sabbath but I can't say whether Ronnie was that mercenary dishonest or not.....Ronnie is no longer here with us to defend himself and he was a great singer. No one can ever deny that. Tony and Geezer later were on record as re-considering the position on what happened in 1982 in the studio anyway. Plus Ritchie was no saint. We have to be honest & remember that Ritchie did things to other musicians which were far worse than Ronnie. Steven the interviewer here will remember how controversial Ritchie was to Ed Van Halen when he was starting out in 1977. Though thankfully Ritchie became a nicer person with age.

    • @vbassone
      @vbassone 11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@walterevans2118 You would agree? You would HAVE to agree because it's a fact that Blackmore was the founder of Rainbow and Geez and Tony Sabbath, it's not up to "if you agree" or not with those FACTS. And you are not entirely accurate when you make the ASSUMPTION that Blackmore "did far worse things" to other musicians than Ronnie. JUST GO ASK VIVIAN CAMPBELL about how he was treated by Ronnie. So trust me, Dio wasn't the angel he is always made out to be. This "debate" we're having is not about the merits of Dio as a singer, it's about these SPECIFIC points/incidents I raised initially.

    • @walterevans2118
      @walterevans2118 11 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@vbassone Well, for accounts of what Ritchie did to other musicians like Tony Carey, Mark Clarke, the original members of Elf , there are the books Black Knight by Jerry Bloom , and Colin Hart's (his tour manager) book A Hart Life where he goes into all the stories....From Ritchie Baptizing cameramen , to splattering Ian Gillan's face with Spaghetti , Throwing a Javelin through Tony Carey's door,,,Chopping down Roger Glover's bedroom door with an axe,,,,Getting in Austrian jail for kicking a stage manager etc, etc......I agree the feud between Ronnie Dio & VIVIAN CAMBELL was a horrendous business. I understand that when he was working for Ronnie in his band he started out on a modest wage but was promised more as the bands success evolved. But it didn't work out that way even though they were part of the creative process....I don't know why this never happened..... I didn't hear Vivian's account in the press at the time but there was this You Tube video where Ronnie was signing autographs & a fan raised the issue of his Ex guitarist & Ronnie said some very hurtful things which he shouldn't have said. & he was criticizing Def Leppard who were just the band who Vivian happened to be joining. There was terrible bitterness sadly. I don't know exactly how they grew to be so resentful to each other.
