    This is how I remember my mother's recipe growing up in the USA. She learned it from my grandmother. So, as a teenager, I went to live with my grandmother in Guadalajara, Jalisco for a few months between high school and college. There, my grandmother put my cousins and me on kitchen duty. Chili Colorado con Carne was one of the regular dishes we had to prepare. All the seasoning was the same. However, my grandmother had us stewing the meat covered on low heat for about one hour and a half, then adding the chili and seasoning then stewing it for another 45 minutes. The meat was so tender, you hardly had to bite into it, in contrast to my mother's chewy beef. Although it took longer to prepare meals with my grandmother (she'd start in the morning prepping everything), her meals were much more savory.

    Three little Mexican ladies opened a restaurant in a vacant building in downtown Bryan, Texas about a million years ago when I was 30 or so. My little brother told be about it saying the next time I was in town we had to eat there. We did, and this is exactly what we had to eat. They served it with Jalapeno Cornbread and I never wanted to leave!! Now I am in the Beef Business and selling steaks, fajita meat, etc... to restaurants. I keep telling my Chef friends about that dish and some would say, "yea, that's carne guisada." And some have even made it for me, but it was never as I remembered it. Their version was more like beef broth soup with vegetables. I would tell them that of course their version was delicious, but the dish I remember was more of a red thick stew-like broth with only beef and potatoes..... So, when I watched you make this it almost brought a tear to my eye. Thank you sooo much, I feel the love you are cooking with and almost smell it through the computer. Thank you again soooo much!!

      Our family loves our Texan Friends. Tex-Mex food although delicious has renamed traditional dishes to fit their needs. It really isn't Mexican food. Guisado is when you add a few ingredients cooked in liquid with a gravy broth ending. It can easily be confused for this traditional delicious plate. I'm so happy this recipe was this recipe is as you remember. Sending you a Texas-style hug 🤗 ❤️ Here is my take on carne guisada th-cam.com/video/sKr2k2Vtw5g/w-d-xo.html

      22CARLOCO22 try using beer like a nice dark one or I love Modelo Negro & just let the carne simmer in it then make the chili in the same pan Omg! It comes out so tender from the beer and the flavor Especially if you like beer just travels very nicely throughout the whole dish. Try it buddy

      No offense to your mom, but a man shouldn't rely on his wife to cook for him. Find a man that at least tries to cook for you.

    • @jtorres5381
      @jtorres5381 4 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Believe me men dont care anymore if you can cook, you have to bring so much more to the table if a respectable guy wants to marry anybody anymore. Those days of getting by ,by just cooking for a guy, are long gone.

    • @crystalwebster654
      @crystalwebster654 4 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      @Juan Torres, I agree. @Kool Burn, The only thing meant by the "Now you can get married" comment is that my food was good. She doesn't literally mean I can get married now because I am a good cook and that is my job as a wife. She is a single independent mom of two and raised us to work hard and rely on no one but our self. I am sure there are some Hispanic mothers that mean it literally. For others it is just a saying that's used to complement us on our cooking ability. I agree with your comment as well.

      @@crystalwebster654 I think I understand your mom. I feel that way with my kids. Boy and girls. Not because i think any of them will only be good for cooking but because i think they should be able to take care of themselves and others if needed. I would like them to be able to cook real meals, keep themselves and their place clean, know other basic life skills (like how to drive) and hopefully be in the workforce before they get into a relationship or have children. I've heard many mexican moms say "no saben ni labar sus calzones y quieren andar con novio" 😅🤦‍♀️ my mom never said that to me because she wasnt as brutal with her words also i didnt have an official bf until i was 20.

      Good advice, married for 8 years been together for 11yrs and cooking is so important. My husband appreciates a good home cooked meal after a long days work and feels a lot better physically because I pack his lunch so he does not have to eat out every day. It is true what they say, the way to a mans heart is through his stomach, ladies take the wisdom from your grandmothers they lived longer than you and have more experience.
