While I agree with your understanding of dress you should know a bit about the "why?" Of dressing up on Sunday. Particularly in African American and in certain segments of southern whites dressing up serves two purposes. One is to show reverence to God, to acknowledge that coming into God's presence as a body is a special occasion (like a prom or wedding). Second, for many who work (or in honor/memory of those who did) in jobs where they get little respect, church was a place where they could be treated with dignity because God treated them with dignity. The point here is that it's not hypocrisy but the desire to honor God and each other and express a sense of self respect that lies behind many individuals dressing up for church when they don't otherwise.
We have a dress code for our congregation. "Please wear some. Nudity is distracting." Pastoral leaders usually wear button downs and slacks. Musicians usually about the same or slightly less formal--the drummer often wears shorts, for example. Elders cover the spectrum. Most wear about the same button down/slacks, some go with Ts &jeans, and I may wear a suit & tie, or vest instead of jacket. This means that any visitor won't feel completely out of place regardless of attire. For context, we're in a college town, and about 40% of our Sunday population is from the local uni. But we have a very high percentage of grad students, post docs, and visiting scholars (most internationals).
Yea cool stuff. That’s what is important. Be cool and hip. Why even carry a Bible? That is so old fashioned. We don’t want to look like hypocritical Christians.
As becoming a pastor my self this is a very sensible topic especially for the older generation. I like to dress up a bit on sundays when I'm on stage, mostly I go for a longer shirt and dark jeans. I think it's so important to not feel like you put a costume just because it's sunday. :) Oh, and nice man bun btw. ;)
In my church those leading worship are required to wear what is prescribed in canon law. Choir and servers were vesture suitable for their role but underneath whatever they are comfortable with. Everyone else ranges from something more formal to jeans but these are not ripped. For the morning service no one has yet to wear shorts and perhaps there are deemed a little too casual for the Eucharist. Saying that in the summer for the evening service I have worn chino shorts if not leading.

Where I’m worshipping (Pentecostal) this is a touchy subject LOL but I see both of your viewpoints and realize new comers either relate or feel “judged” if we are “overdressed” for the occasion. I’ve seen a visiting bishop minister to a youth group and his bishop rope and necklace and ring and everything and he could not reach the youth. He literally and physically separated himself from them by what he had on. Therefore his message never got past the pulpit.
Pro Church Tools with Brady Shearer like who are we trying to reach and why? I agree with leadership dress codes but whose standard? 1 Corinthians 9:20. I still feel we are examples and all things in moderation but who knows what moderation is anymore? Lol Lord we need you to guide us.
I realize that the Holy Spirit lives within our bodies and clothes do not affect that. However, dressing formally and modestly for church shows a reverence for God in wearing something special for the occasion of going to Church. For example people dress in a special formal way to a wedding or school prom. Why isn't going into God's presence warrant the same effort in preparation? Brady mentioned that there is no theological backing to dressing formally but I disagree. The Israelite priests of the Levite tribe had specific priestly garments that they wore in the congregation tent. God gave specific instructions to Moses in how to craft these garments and the congregation tent so the dress code was not a man-made doctrine. Also in Exodus 19:10 God orders the Israelites to wash themselves before being in his presence. "And the LORD said unto Moses, Go unto the people, and sanctify them to day and to morrow, and let them wash their clothes, 11And be ready against the third day: for the third day the LORD will come down in the sight of all the people upon mount Sinai." Dressing in a certain way to appease the congregation and attract new comers to the church is futile. The leadership in the church should primarily seek to please God first and serve as role models for the congregation. What will you have left if you just sway with the cultural norms?
I prefer people wearing what they normally wear. The New Testament church had a lot of people who wore regular clothes. Most people in the first century church were very poor.

Here's a thought... It doesnt matter. We get way too obsessed over this. Its not about impressing someone or "attracting" new people with our dress. Not to be super "cliche" but its about Him. That's it. I do things on stage all the time & me, I like dressing nice on Sunday. Sometimes that means jeans & t-shirt and other days a full suit. How youre treated is more important. I do feel like you ought to look your best but you should dress to your churches culture... like you said. As long as its not in a rebellious attitude then no one cares.
Short anwser is no. Besides actually wearing clothes of course haha. I usually wear a kahkis and button down for Sunday Morning. Then Jeans and a Polo for any other church service.
Call me old school, but those examples were way too casual in my opinion, aside from just looking generally bad. Leather shoes (no sneakers) No hats No shorts In reality this is still very casual, but is a cut above what you’d wear to a burger joint. It shows a bit of reverence and respect for the environment. I think we as believers need to be mindful of who we serve. I think we believe it's about us... it's not. We were created to give God honor and worship in every aspect of our lives. Yes God has granted us Grace for this dispensation but we should always consider him first. This conversation sounds like we give God what we choose and not what he commands. We have to stop watering down God's truth. Leadership should represent God well, in our behavior and also in our appearance. Sounds like I'm being strict, but I'm just pointing out how we have changed things for comforts' sake. Jesus, from what I've read, never said "let me change so others feel comfortable with my father's truth." Church seems like a social club now a day's. 🤷🏾♀️ praying for us all dear brothers and sisters. Believe me, my heart has been pricked and thank God for it!

Ladies and young women should be careful about low cut tops, very short shorts and mini skirts, for some people it can be distracting!

Packaging 101^^
Ok again when your on stage preaching or singing you do NOT wear Clothes like another that just cane in first time we are representing the lord and we do use BETTER Judgment with A position t shirts and Torn jeans us Notvof better Judgement we arebofbthe world but Not of the World
You can be smart casual, no ripped jeans at church please, out of respect for Our Lord Jesus. If you had a meeting with the President or the Queen of England, what do you think you would wear. Attending Church shouldn’t be a fashion parade or clothes competition, but just be clean and well groomed that’s the main thing. Ladies and young women should be careful about low cut tops, very short shorts and mini skirts, for some people it can be distracting!
What about in the old testament when the priest wore what he did God did not want it any other way.i mean sirs you are comforted to a worldly fashion.you dress to attract people to your congregation.i dress Because I want to look my best for God.i come from a long line of Godly people that ready loved God.that now have gone to be with the lord.i am sure you Love God. But just because some one else does something doesn’t mean the church to change.says in the Bible That Jesus is the same yesterday, today, and forever. Then why can’t we follow suit.you dress to suit people.dont suit people.suit God.Amens Brother,s I Love You…….
Men need to wear dress pants or blue jeans. No shorts allowed for anyone who wants to get behind the pulpit to sing or preach. Women wear LONG skirts. No knee knockers. Women can’t get behind the pulpit to sing unless they’re wearing a skirt ...oh. And men must have short hair
The altar boys need to wear those robes.
Are we not to be different from the world ? To not conform to the world? The scripture does say sanctuary is holy. And bc your theology changed does not mean the scripture changes. God could be anywhere, but the temple the church the sanctuary was built for him to dwell among us . He said why dnt we dress everyone else? So conform to them instead? Instead of us teaching them for them to confirm ti the word not your idea. We are not to lean on our OWN understanding. Even if we were to go to court or to an interview we put more effort or show more reverence yet for church we cnt? There is a time and season for everything as the Bible states. There is a time for us to know when to dress a certain way fit certain events or locations we go too. We are conforming to society. We are not ti be stumbling blocks and woe to those who are.
If you're Jesus's followers and if you know the Bible well God sent his best that he had his only begotten son so shouldn't we give our best to God and when they used to sacrifice animals in the ancient days they could not give a lame animal for an example like a blind or a lame animal God would reject it he's our creator we should respect him and give him the best now if you look at weddings isn't that amazing how people look their best or when the government People You Meet the president for the United States you must have a tie on at the dinner table it's called respect if you represent the most high God in the universe you'd want to wear your best of course when you go to worship Him do not lean on your own understanding of God he likes it when we show appreciation for him like I said a lot of people dress up to even go to dinner go out to a nightclub but when it comes to church they're sloppy a lot of them wear short skirts with slits all the way up the side tank tops that's not respectful
Ever heard of a period or a comma?
No respect to the lords house...
I don't think people look at you as a version - how wierd. But those serving in ripped jeans, VERY ripped jeans, too short shorts on someone who shouldn't and pants faling half off of you - disrespectful to worship in - really? Will you do that before the thrown? Maybe we have lost the awe of God....and disrespectful of the people in church
