This is a monitor lizard. We have many on Guam. They do not harm humans. Don't kill them unless you are going to eat it. Don't eat it unless you have nothing else to eat. Other than that, you should let them be.

The only one's I've seen bigger than these are the ones they keep as pets at the ranch. Almost every animal on Guam are smaller than the average due to limited food /preys, and small jungle.

I grew up in the Phils. with an environment similar to this one. In my childhood memories I saw often these creatures roamed around not far from where we live. However, people in my place intentionally catch them for food. I can't blame them, food is so scarce. but how I wish these animals can have a place where they can roam without being threatened for dinner.

very big bayawak, guys ae very smart and don't afraid to catch bayawak, in our ountry we call it bayawak local species of crocodile. Mosly they are living and grown in nearby rivers especially at bamboo plant places, new friend here from philippines.

Monitor Lizards are one of my favorite animals. In my country is ilegal to hunt or own Wild animals , and one cannot even import a Monitor Lizard. Still, I dream of having one as a pet and take good care of him. I wonder since there is so many, if is not smarter to create farms to leave the wild ones alone.. I've been Everywhere on GUAM and Never have I seen a lizard this size - EVER - Even on Navy compound in the hills at the Lake. Bats are Bigger.
