- Led by legendary guitarist Wayne Kramer, the MC5 were a reflection of the times: exciting, sexy, violent, chaotic and out of control, all but assuring their time in the spotlight would be short-lived. The band recorded three major label albums but, by 1972, it was all over.
In this video interview Kramer discusses his new memoir, The Hard Stuff, which recounts the turbulent times of the MC5, as well his own incredible story from the glory days of Detroit to the junk-sick streets of the East Village, from Key West to Nashville and sunny LA, in and out of prison and on and off drugs. It is a classic journeyman narrative, but with a twist: Kramer is here to remind us that revolution is always an option.

I Just bought the book a couple of days ago and so far is a great reading.
Sincere for sure.
Wayne was such a wonderful artist! They were such an incredibly influential band. We loved discussing the new MC5 book and many guitar topics and it’s inspiration with author Brad Tolinski on our show.
thanks brother Wayne
Soul brother Wayne!
I saw the MC5 in June 1969 with the Left Banke in Peekskill NY in an abandoned bowling alley in largely black ghetto. Only approx 200 kids show up mostly black, 50 of us white panther type angry kids. Tyner apologized the the place didn't sell out. But he said we are going to play anyway. American flag draped Marshall's, Mosite guitars. Sparkle suits, tight pants, and loud as all hell. I will never forget them...Radical, intense and incendiary. Pre dated Back in the USA. Criminal is right, Trump is a pimp. The leg kicks and dance moves were amazing.
Got my tix for San Francisco show. Bought the book. Last time I saw you was 1972 in Ann Arbor. Respect Brother and all the good you do. A Sister from Detroit.
You must be a Sister Ann :)
Thanks for the trip down memory lane. Last time I saw you was at Uncle Sams on Telegraph Rd. with Mitch Ryder. Last time with the 5 was the final show at the Grande. Great read!
Lots of love to you Wayne X
Love you Wayne.
Just met him tonight. Saw him pay for an hour. No way he's 70. I mean he is. But GD he can play and move.
Youth!
"An abject criminal running the country..." Well said.
