You guys are great ! I'm 66 year old builder . You remind me of my adventures as a kid building club houses in the woods with my friends from junk lumber we would find . We slept in them every night over summer vacation. Had a blast like you guys !
We weren't allowed to even sleep in the tent that was set up in the woods, Mom had to be able to walk back without ducking under branches to the tent. The carpet beetles did a number on the tents screen and canvas. So that ended that idea. I had cleared out a spot back there years before the tent went up. There was a sistern with frogs in it. If you double the PV, which it looks like there's room for up top, you could run a decently powerful electric boat motor straight from the panels all day long. That seems like a better way to go than the sail, which didn't do a whole lot to move the boat vs. just letting the sun do the work.
Doubling the solar would help a ton, and once we hit it big, we'll add more! Adding the sail was all about redundancy in case the motor messes up. It's also just fun to try new stuff out! thanks for watching!

Like the boat. One warning when using 3m 5200 sealant. It will seal good but if you ever want to remove something that you used it on it will destroy it. I work on boats for a living and have seen it take fiberglass chunks out of hulls when removing something that was installed using the 5200 and they don’t sell anything that removes it. Used 3m 4200 it seal as good as the 5200 but they sell a product that will release the 4200 and will not destroy anything in the process of removing.
Your boat is made to sail downwind only. You need to install a keel. A keel is like an underwater sail. If you can imagine sailing to be similar to you squeezing an ice cube between two fingers. One finger is the wind pushing against the sail. The other finger is the keel pushing against the water. As the two forces push against each other, the ice (your sailboat) gets pushed out and shoots away from you. I'd guess your keel needs to be 3-4 feet submerged underwater and should probably be at least that wide. I'd keep the thickness somewhere around an inch if you are using plywood. If you could come across a sheet of 1/4" steel, it would also help keep your boat upright as a counterbalance too.
You guys are having way too much fun! This was a good watch, and a couple of laughs too. What made you think that mast would stay without Duct Tape??? lol😂
Reminds me of Handyman Corner on the Red Green Show, but seriously the sheer amount of dedication and production quality you guys put into this. Excellent effort, earned my sub.
Those holes in your cavitation plate would be a good spot to mount a rudder. Rudders dont need to be deep. You can use long instead (to a certain extent)
@@MoneyPitBoating I dont know, but I just had a look on google images, and a lot of them have downward pointing sides. I'm guessing this would stop air being sucked in from the sides, shroud the prop (better power at low speeds from a ducted prop (maybe)), or perhaps the downward pointing fins stop pressure leakage off to the side if you are using it to raise or lower the back of your boat... ie using it like a wing. When you build pressure under a wing, and low pressure above the wing you create lift. And like those tops on the wings of a plane's wings, a fin might stop some of that pressure bleeding out over the sides. So perhaps they are to attach fins to stop that. But I dont know, that's just a guess. Your holes are in a strange place if that's what they are for. But it would be pretty easy to mount a rudder on them. Just a couple of "L" shaped brackets and a bit of wood. Bolt it down.... or use chewing gum in your boat's case :) My boat looks more like something that fell of the back of a different boat in the movie water world, so that's said out of respect :)
This is something what my 2 kids at ten year olds would of built with unlimited budget😆? but i have stumbled on a gem of a channel by accident i watched the full vid in one sittin...tks guys ,,new sub for sure
Try, changing to a Mast and Boom set up. Triangular sail that can shift, (via Transom Line) from port to starboard, put drop side boards, (or Center board), in place to keep from being blown sideways and learn the points of sail (Reaches) ?

I don't understand the fear of lightning rods we had them on our farmhouse. Lighting would strike the one rod on the kitchen chimney. The center of the main part of the house was untouched. You can see black marks on the one rod. We witnessed two strikes at two different times. I guess lightning never strikes twice. LOL the lightning rod company would do an inspection once in a while. Didn't matter who owned the house. It was lifetime inspections. You would hear a ping then a second later comes the big bang noise. Awesome experience because it's from God. 73

Maybe drop the rudder and just use a tiny amount of power to the prop for steerage. The lowest speed you can set it to should give you steerage. Also if you have two sails, one at the front and one at the back you can steer by setting your sales to catch different amounts or air. So you can steer a sailing boat with two ropes from inside the cabin. One to the back sail, and one to the front. If you are planning a sail with some shape rather than just a big square to go downwind, your fastest point of sail would be from the left or right at 90 degrees. This means by setting more power to the rear or front sail, you can change which way the sucker will go. I think the rudder is going to trash your motor mount. But by far the easiest way is to just run the motor at the lowest speed you can (as long as that's faster than your boat is moving.
Sail kinda blocks the panels light, maybe lol it needs to be made of that fabric that you can get a tan right through! Lol( if that ability isn't simply a factor of tiny perforations in the cloth which would render it less effective as a sail )
you guys should add a second tarp sail line up the gromets and run a rope through them to make the seam and then attach the corners of the lower tarp to the fronts of the big pontoons
I like the project and it looks like you guys had a lot of fun with it, one thing that I did notice is you are using a bluesea battery switch on a 48v system and those switches are rated for only for up to 24v systems, midnite mndc makes great high volt high amp breakers that can be used as a battery switch.
Thanks for watching and the product suggestion! The switch we're using is the 48 volt version (Affiliate link below). www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000MMC914?th=1&_encoding=UTF8&tag=moneypitboa05-20&linkCode=ur2&linkId=aa647c20f126f69a664e2e83c8d2be94&camp=1789&creative=9325 It has worked well so far, but we're always looking for ways to improve!
Makes me feel to upgrade with a 'basement mode' for the ocean - the whole room able to be hidden under water; like half a submarine ;) For bad weather conditions...heat insulation in upper water might still be better during a few stormy hours and no need to protect against strong wind.
It's on the list of things to figure out. That and aluminum. We need to raise some funds before the next build though, so stay tuned and thanks for watching!
Indeed we should have. We don't have any fiberglass experience yet, so it will be good to learn. The next version will be either aluminum or fiberglass probably. Thanks for watching!
Need a turnbuckle.for the main guy line/ wire.& wrap the eye the line goes through & the line together with flexy tape thats safe with electrical power in case of lightning or power lines . A pair of turnbuckles with a D ring link between could work but a ... Caribiner might work temp. ? For emerg. mast lowering . Oh!! A pivot pin! ( or a locking elbow joint , but only if the sail is furled first .)
I can appreciate what you’re trying to do but I’ve only made it 40 minutes through the video and have seen about 60 ads so I’m signing enough. Have a nice day.
I hope you know that termite are gonna enjoy eating that 4 x 4 within 3 years time more or less . I hope not but will see . OUTSTANDING VIDEO BTW and i enjoyed the video !!! Thank you for sharing 💯
All I can say, This is how we learn. By just doing it. Next build, and future repairs, look at Dicor self leveling sealant, eternabond tape, and liner style roof, all RV products
should of used paint thinner or what they recommend to thin it out. and the gap where you filled with foam insulation i would of gone underneath and shimmed up the floor underneath then screwed it together
Time bandit shirt...he might wanna change it to Time bomb..Deadliest pontoon edition. J/k love both you guys. Great content. I'm pretty sure this is flex seal Hillstrand approved.
So so funny guys your editing is all over the place. I understand, though it would be really hard to edit like years or footage into one stretch, but very funny we not see you picking up rubbish though, sailing thing though epic fail lol . Great content, though guys great job. 👍 I also don’t understand why anyone would speak negative you guys are having a great time and filming it. That’s just great.
What's up, guys? I may help you out if you have made any other changes. The daggerboards should not be so long. Tey are for side slipping when you are sailing. You could cut them in half, and you might turn faster. And they should be painted with epoxy paint they don't last long being raw wood. It would be best if you put a rudder on both pontoons to work correctly
If you want to get cheap solar you can also use a second hand house panel which generally costs $20 to $50 each and lifepo4 batteries in the USA are fairly cheap now but keep up the good work I enjoy watching your channel.
You can use a 1/2inch pvc pipe at the bottom of the sail so it can hold the sail from flapping and you can throw the rope through it to hold it on the left side and right side so it can be more stable
Looks good to me, but coming from someone in a high humidity state (GA), you are going to want to cover exposed wood with varnish (poly) or a good coat of paint of gloss with some antifungal ability to it. Wood will mold up quick in hot humid weather in a weather tight compartment, and it is easier to clean up when you open beer(I mean Juice of course) bottles or cans that may spill on surfaces.
This is a good idea but our pontoons took a beating and aren't aligned with each other anymore. Next version will probably have this. Thanks for watching!
If you drop ANYTHING in the water, put it in a bag of rice completely surrounded by the aforementioned rice. It sucks up moisture like a moisture magnet.
@@slamburger You are not very bright are you? I have used this technique twice after dropping electronic items in the water. ( Cell Phones to be exact. After dropping one in a toilet, shoot both of them in toilets, you pull them out, turn them off, put it in a bag or box or Tupperware container IMMEDIATELY and make sure the rice surrounds the phone. Pull it out after a couple of days and turn it on. Viola! You saved your phone. ) After a couple of days in a bag of rice they worked as if nothing had ever happened. Myth? Sheeeiit. What moron told you that?
I once planned a pontoon houseboat, but age got to me before it happened, I stripped it to rails, added a slightly shorter pontoon in the center to make a trimaran and put an expensive aluminum deck on it. That is as far as the project got as building more alone would have been difficult with my back and arthritis in most joints. Eventually I sold it and the 85hp motor for two thousand dollars to get it out of the yard. The buyers took it to Arkansas and made a duck blind cabin out of it.
@@MoneyPitBoating Yes, we water skied behind it for several years. We had it for 40 years and I added the 85 hp within a year of getting it. It would go into the 30s mph and you could not see the boat, just a huge spray of water. I put one new wood deck on it, then when it started getting soft 15 years later, I started the build project since we didn't ski anymore.
Very entertaining!!! Reminds me of when me and my buddy built our very first boat when we where like 13…my parents gave us free reign to use as much wood as was around the garage…by the time we got done this thing was 400lbs of fence posts and scrap wood 310lbs of nails and screws…took 6 neighborhood boys and a heavily overloaded red rider wagon…we just barely got it across the street to lake michigan…needless to say it didnt go to well, but the journey was a blast!!! Edit: thanks dad for being a horder!!!❤
@@MoneyPitBoating thank you for puting in the work on the filming and editing your videos man, 2 hours and 30minutes and im glad it was so long…you guys are a blast to watch truely, i realy hope people take notice and you can earn enough on youtube to fuel more fun adventures while mayyyyyyybe pissing off big bro at the same time lol!!!

How do you guys trim your motor /w that mount? if you had the ability to trim it, you might be able to get a little bit more performance out of that motor.
We can raise it up and down pretty good with a normal pull handle type action, but we actually broke the part on the motor that allows for good tilting. More performance would be nice, but we understand that we're probably not going to set any records other than ugliest boat. Thanks for watching!
Hahahahaha thanks for the kind words! Haulover would be a riot in this thing... for about 30 seconds! Average depth is kind of tough. Upstream, about 8"-24". Home base, about 5'. Downstream anywhere from 8' to 15'. Thanks for watching!

You are a man of logic! Thanks for sharing your great ideas about the double sails and rudder. Also, thanks for watching!
Sail kinda blocks the panels light, maybe lol it needs to be made of that fabric that you can get a tan right through! Lol( if that ability isn't simply a factor of tiny perforations in the cloth which would render it less effective as a sail )
Also, that would be expensive, and out of our price range. Good idea though!
Really enjoyed the video. Cooking the catch was excellent. Pregnant momma was icing on the cake. FAMILY! First time viewer, subscribed.
Welcome aboard and thanks for the kind words!
Great vid and a worthy cause! Fun Fact: Use "farther" when referring to distance, and "further" for everything else.
Communicating isn't one of our better qualities, but thanks for the tip, and for the kind words!
you guys should add a second tarp sail line up the gromets and run a rope through them to make the seam and then attach the corners of the lower tarp to the fronts of the big pontoons
So it'd be one big mega sail?! This is an interesting idea! Thanks!
WTF Did he say !!! @MoneyPitBoating
More sail = more power! Oh oh oh oh oh!

It has worked well so far, but we're always looking for ways to improve!
raising the roof and making the floor a storage would be cool and this looks like fun
That would be awesome, but we have to get under low bridges, so we cant go too much higher!
Makes me feel to upgrade with a 'basement mode' for the ocean - the whole room able to be hidden under water; like half a submarine ;)
For bad weather conditions...heat insulation in upper water might still be better during a few stormy hours and no need to protect against strong wind.
That'd be awesome!
love the long video format and the dynamic you lads have with each other. Subscribed!
Welcome aboard and thanks for watching!
Bro first 5 minutes and my o.c.d. is killing me. Its a n.o. for me
What if the last 5 minutes was fixing everything, to make your ocd go away?! Either way, thanks!
Floating man cave, nice.
Pretty much! Thanks for watching!
Thanks!
Thank you for supporting the channel!
Cant believe I watched this whole thing. I was intrigued the entire time
It was quite the journey! Thanks for watching!
Looks like y'all having fun. That's what's it's about. Living and having fun.😊
We love it when people just get it... Thanks for watching!
i love this project so much the boat is cozy and homey/ functional
Thanks for the kind words! We had a blast building it, and want to add more stuff to it, so stay tuned!
You should get a couple of scooters for trips to get small supplies they have version for 265-400 lbs make sure you get basket for carrying items.
This is a great idea... Stay tuned and thanks for watching!
if you want to be able to use the antenna on the stereo may want to see about grounding the antenna iirc it is needed.
It's on the list of things to do when we have time. Thanks for watching!
having fun with your bud is what boats are all about hell yeah
Bingo! Thanks for watching!
You guys should really give fiberglass a shot. I think you'll get significantly better results
It's on the list of things to figure out. That and aluminum. We need to raise some funds before the next build though, so stay tuned and thanks for watching!
You should have coated the wood with a thick coat of fiberglass😊
Our minds went straight to wrestling when you said turnbuckle...!
Lots of giggles plus a boat ! Good job !
We appreciate the kind words! Thanks for watching!
You fellas put a whole new meaning to
Pound Patch Paint to Match 😂🎉
Bahahahaha I guess we did, didn't we?!
Started watching for the boat build, kept watching for the laugh that dude has. That alone could cure cancer.
Bahahaha let's hope! Thanks for watching!
I can appreciate what you’re trying to do but I’ve only made it 40 minutes through the video and have seen about 60 ads so I’m signing enough. Have a nice day.
Are you blaming us for having ads, or youtube? We're kind of confused by this comment. Either way, thanks for watching!
Maybe I was just frustrated because of my own issues. Life throws some curveballs. Keep up the good work.
Been there... Thanks for being honest and stay positive! The curveballs are there for a reason... you just have to figure out why! Thanks again!
I hope you know that termite are gonna enjoy eating that 4 x 4 within 3 years time more or less . I hope not but will see . OUTSTANDING VIDEO BTW and i enjoyed the video !!! Thank you for sharing 💯
Hopefully we hit it big and can afford to build a better boat by then! Thanks for watching!
All I can say, This is how we learn.
By just doing it.
Next build, and future repairs, look at Dicor self leveling sealant, eternabond tape, and liner style roof, all RV products
Exactly! Thanks for the heads up on other products!
You could consider using dura-Rock under your battery bank at the least for fire protection. 🔥
That's a pretty good idea, but it might be really heavy? If this thing catches fire, it's going to be trouble!
@@MoneyPitBoating dura rock is not that heavy . Those batteries are known pyros .
Let's hope not!
should of used paint thinner or what they recommend to thin it out. and the gap where you filled with foam insulation i would of gone underneath and shimmed up the floor underneath then screwed it together
Yeah, mistakes were made! That stuff was BRUTAL. Thanks for watching!
This was an awesome video! Maybe you guys will consider a smaller HVAC unit in the future so he doesn’t have to squeeze between the post.
Smaller and lighter EVERYTHING in the future! Thanks for watching!
Love it you guys are having fun thats what its all about
Indeed it is! Thanks for watching!
Time bandit shirt...he might wanna change it to Time bomb..Deadliest pontoon edition. J/k love both you guys. Great content. I'm pretty sure this is flex seal Hillstrand approved.
Bahahahahaha this is a great comment! Hillstrand approved!
We don't understand the negativity either! It's so weird that people are mad at us for having fun and cleaning up garbage!
You need a projector to watch movies on the back of the sail 😂
This is a GREAT idea! Thanks!
I can't believe I just watched an almost 3 hr masterpiece.
That is quite the compliment! Thanks!
Yo! Thanks for the comment! We are going to do some adjusting on them in the summer, so stay tuned! Thanks for watching!
At 23 mins, you're beginning to remind me of the Sarah Winchester Mystery House 😂. Awesome project👍
Bahahahahaha Thanks!
I watched this and laughed so much and long that I pissed myself!!!!!!!!!!! Thank you both I haven't laughed like that for years! God bless you both!
Always glad to help ruin someone’s underpants! Thanks for watching, and commenting, and stay tuned!
Bahahahaha Sorry?! Glad you enjoyed it though!
If you want to get cheap solar you can also use a second hand house panel which generally costs $20 to $50 each and lifepo4 batteries in the USA are fairly cheap now but keep up the good work I enjoy watching your channel.
We are always looking for cheap options! Thanks for the tip and kind words!
it's a damn 2 hours long video about making solar boat and i don't even like fishing. it's a wonderful video to watch.
Bahahaha thanks for the honesty!
You can use a 1/2inch pvc pipe at the bottom of the sail so it can hold the sail from flapping and you can throw the rope through it to hold it on the left side and right side so it can be more stable
That's a great idea!
Great point! Thanks for the tip!
I had put one ruder on each ponton with a link system to the motor for maneuver the ruder
This is a good idea but our pontoons took a beating and aren't aligned with each other anymore. Next version will probably have this. Thanks for watching!
Loved the video!! I wish you all the best. You guys are gonna be on the water a long time .Please give it a color and a name . 😂😂😂😂
Thanks for the kind words! We've got something planned, so stay tuned!
Thumbs up on video-👍 upgrade on the houseboat
Thanks 👍
If you drop ANYTHING in the water, put it in a bag of rice completely surrounded by the aforementioned rice. It sucks up moisture like a moisture magnet.
Thanks for the tip!
That's a myth
@@slamburger You are not very bright are you? I have used this technique twice after dropping electronic items in the water. ( Cell Phones to be exact. After dropping one in a toilet, shoot both of them in toilets, you pull them out, turn them off, put it in a bag or box or Tupperware container IMMEDIATELY and make sure the rice surrounds the phone. Pull it out after a couple of days and turn it on. Viola! You saved your phone. ) After a couple of days in a bag of rice they worked as if nothing had ever happened. Myth? Sheeeiit. What moron told you that?
Very nice I'm surprised boat shows haven't called trying to book you in yet hahaha
Bahahaha We had to disconnect our phone line because they were annoying us! Thanks for watching!
An 85 HP motor and aluminum deck would be awesome... That thing would almost fly!
Well it sounds like you got your money's worth!
did the solar panels block your water collection system?
Not at the start, but our new roof did!
Done is better than perfect
I really needed to hear this simple truth
It took us a long time to be ok with this concept too. Whatever you're doing, just move forward and everything will be just fine! Thanks for watching!
Every big kids dream.awesome video
Exactly. Thanks for getting it, and watching!
Wow can't believe that thing hasn't gone in to blaze yet
That makes 2 of us! We're actually paranoid about catching on fire, so Mark did LOTS of homework on marine electrical systems. Thanks for watching!
What an awesome memory! The journey is priceless. Thanks for watching and sharing!
Bahahahaha Thanks for the kind words! We're trying as hard as we can to make this work, and get 1 million subscribers. If we make "fun money", the internet better watch out! We have some crazy ideas, but they cost a lot. Stay tuned!
a shorter smart plug will have less resistance delivering the right amps . you loosing power with that 46:50
Thats actually the cable we use on the shore power outlet, which we needed to be longer. A shorter cable dedicated for use with the generator is a great idea tho, we will add it to the incredibly long list! Thx for watching, and the tips!
What Coutts said! Thanks for watching and the idea!
This is awesome. I'm loving it. I watched the whole thing. I wish I could do it.
We appreciate the kind words, and what is stopping you?! Go live life and thanks for watching!
Learning on the job, good for you ❤
Always! Thanks for watching!
You need to angel your sail to deal with lite to heavy winds... pivot the sail that is.
We need a lot of adjusting with the sail. We have an idea, so stay tuned! Thanks for watching!
That would be awesome but id be terrified of something important breaking
We are too!
Bahahahaha yup!
Look at pictures of real sailboats. Masts are held up by wires front and back and side to side. They are called stays.
Yeah, we added some! They help a lot. Thanks for watching!
Look at a real woman, the things on the front are called breasts
This IS a real sailboat!!😂
Absolutely put some chain plates in And throw up a big boom
41:09 I have the same kit. I always thought that was sweet but weird to randomly put on there.
It took us about 2 years to figure it out... #notSharpTools
@@MoneyPitBoating DEKO!!! I JUST REALIZED IT'S AN ACRONYM DAMNIT
Good vibes guys excellent 👌 👍 God bless
Glad you enjoyed and ditto!
I feel like you guys are flying by the seat of your pants, and I love it!
Oh we are!!!
It takes a lot of caulk. For you guys to do this amazing content thanks so much 😂
Hahahahaha you get it! Thanks for watching!
his is awesome!!! Time to take it to haulover inlet and get featured on wavy boats hahahahal. Whats the avg depth of the river your on?
Hahahahaha thanks for the kind words! Haulover would be a riot in this thing... for about 30 seconds! Average depth is kind of tough. Upstream, about 8"-24". Home base, about 5'. Downstream anywhere from 8' to 15'. Thanks for watching!
29:00 song???
Oh god... It'd be a hassle to track down, but we use epidemic sound, and it was probably under the "Epic" mood.
Interesting choices. Fun watch.
Mistakes were made, but we learned a lot!
First time seeing any of your videos, and already love it haha, subscribed for sure
Welcome aboard!
Not sayin anything but kool things about your kool project but is yellow pine good around water???
Thanks and wood around water needs to get sealed properly to last!
You can buy extra-long cables at Napa or have them made
Yeah we ended up buying some. Thanks for watching!
