Here is a brief translation of the video. I have only started learning Japanese and still make lots of mistakes, so please let me know if you find any error or emission :)
[0:00] Hello everyone, this is Matsusue from Bonsai Suishoen. Today's video is about the pruning of Japanese black pine ("kuromatsu"黒松). These days, black pines are especially strong on the top. As a result, the lower portion is gradually getting weaker. Please watch today's video for how to handle this situation. Thank you very much for your support, and let us get into it.
[0:27] We will now start explaining the cut back/pruning ("kirikomi"切り込み). First we observe the outline of this branch, it looks like thi----is. Say we want to keep this outline, but there is this really strong branch "byuunn~" coming out from here. To get rid of branches like this is what bonsai people call "kirikomi" (切り込み, literally means "cut to compact") or "oikomi" (追い込み, literally means "herd to compact").
[0:56] Usually, if there are any more buds in the middle here, we would cut above those buds. But in our case, this branch has a really long internode with no intermediate branches present. Even without any additional branching, if you just leave it like this it will still grow at a great speed. And if you leave it like this, these smaller bud on the inside ("futokorome"懐芽, literally "embraced buds") will wither, leaving only this big guy alive. So what should we do? We cut it back. Too bad there are no intermediate buds ("tobukime"胴吹芽, literally "torso sprouting bud") in the middle here. If there are intermediate buds here, in certain cases we might want to wait for them to grow longer. But during the wait, the smaller branches here will still be weakened. Therefore we should cut back the stronger branches as soon as possible, and restore the strength in these weaker branches. This is what pruning is about.
[2:06] Therefore, when I see a strong branch extending like this, I tend to cut it off right at the base. [cut!] Like this branch. [places the fallen branch nicely] Now the new outline looks like this. Now when we look at it, this portion, from here to here, is rather bare. This branch does eventually diverges into... one, two... two more branches, but the internode is still very long. We will now explain how to deal with long internode like this.
[3:03] If it is up to me, emm... let me see. There is a small bud here, and over there there is also another branch. I might just make the cut right here and try to multiply the branches on that one in the future. Later we can double and double again the number of buds on these two branches. To compactify the outline and with the possible number of future buds in mind, I would just make the cut here. Right here [3:40]. Leaving behind only this one and this one. This is what I would like to do.
[3:49] What if we don't want to reduce the volume of the foliage and want to keep the existing outline? What should we do if want it to bud back along the internode here? Notice that there are two newly decandled branches here at the end. We cut off one of them. When we cut off one from the two, the energy focuses from two to this one single branch. The energy used to go that branch will now be directed to the remaining one. But not exactly 100% of the energy will be pumped all the way to the end, and we have now just given the intermediate dormant buds are chance to grow. Therefore, when one branch from a bifurcating pair is cut off, the chance of budding back can be increased.
[5:07] In the case we are not anticipating any back buds, we simply make the cut here. [cut!] We can put this small bud here into use and grow it longer ... [cleans the table] ... we can use this small bud here or maybe we will just cut it off. [cut!] Like what I wanted to do at the beginning. Cutting it all the way back to here, leaving only two of them. This one can be wired like this in the future. Notice how everything is becoming very compact here. Starting from here, in about ten days time, two more buds will develop at the end of each of these guys.
[5:55] In the future the tip of the branches will reach to about here. And the outline will be formed by two more, and two more branches here. Looking nice and pretty. To plan for increasing the number of branches and at the same time keeping it compact. We want to make the best use of the existing branches and compactify the outline as much as possible. This is what cut back/pruning ("kirikomi"切り込み) is about.
[6:24] So this time we talked about the pruning of Japanese black pine. Pruning is an essential procedure, so please keep what we have discussed today in mind. In the future we will make more videos in more details, please make sure to come back and check them out. That is all for today's video. Thank you very much for your attention.

    切り込みたいと思っている黒松があります。芽切りは一週間程前に終えました。
    切り込みは芽切りに合わせて行う方が良いのか、春先に行う方が良いのかアドバイスをお願いします。
