Spacers allow you to not push the bearings out of the racings....but the nut should never be cranked down that tight....i think the nut or axle would strip first...
im confused
@@rickyglaser...the actual ball bearings inside sit in grooves that they rotate in....pop off the shields and u can kinda see this....when ever you tighten up the axle nut it applies force to the center racing/housing of the overall bearing....the outer racing/housing is what makes makes contact with the wheel...if you where 2 keep tightening without the spacers you could theoretically push the center racing/housing through the bearing n obviously ruining it in the process but like i said idk if the nut or axle could take that kinda force..... hope that helps
If you have the correct spacers you should be able to tighten the nut fully without it stopping the wheels from spinning. Without spacers there is huge pressure on the bearing casing.
Long boarders know all about this because bearings matter much more when you're hill bombing at 70kmph
@@Just_SK8 wow u have blown my mind! thank you!
@@rickyglaser no worries it was all news to me until recently. In P Rods new set-up vid he says he doesn't put them in cause they just wiggle around 😄 but some guys explain the mechanics of it and it's very interesting

You are a good teacher Ricky. You have a very easy going style of explaining things and you explain things well. I appreciate all you do for the skating world!
thanks!
I'm still on my first skateboard and can't grind yet but i will keep this in mind for the future, love your videos
Love you two! Great content Ricky!
Those trucks are dope!
Awesome video and setup. Very well articulated explanations and great points. I appreciate you taking your time and energy make this video for us Ricky.
thank you for being here
😂 just commented my fav part about a board and mentioned my krux trucks than came across this. Best trucks I've had. Yew!
I love krux. Used to be all I skated, but none of my local shops carry them anymore... Tensor mag-lights are my current go to
Love the colour scheme
i’m happy to see ricky back ❤
Ricky set up new completes exactly the same as I always do. Except my griptape cut is never as clean as that lol ❤
You can also use variable numbers of speed washers to space your wheel on the trucks.
yeah i did know that, but i always thought that was a secondary function
I think skate them loose at first so bushings break in easier. Then tighten them so you dont get wheelbite etc.
I use the belt sander to put artificial grooves into my trucks. Not too big of a groove just just right. you need to do the right spot or doesn’t work though.
wow interesting
@@rickyglaser it works good if you need groves fast
I’ve mostly outgrown that I don’t do it much anymore
As a new skater that's just about to hit 1 year of skating and almost being able to ollie (😅) I did a lot of research trying to find out what spacers were for and the conclusion I found, was as well as keeping contact between the bearings so they can spin as one object to help prevent wear, it also gives more structure to the wheels to help them not implode on impact from hitting a crack or landing a jump, etc. :)
Haha yeah, thats the theory at least , the point i tried to make in the vid is ive tried many different bearings and wheel combos with and without spacers, never have i ever noticed any differences in performance or durability 😅
@@rickyglaser Fair fair, gotta trust your expert opinion afterall :P The spacers in my wheels aren't big enough to make contact between the bearings anyway, so xD
new vidi, Lets goooo.
Great video
Went from standard team thunders to hollow light thunders, but I went back to 8.5 I'm a fan
Look up a video on spacers. They are very important. But if you change your bearings every week it probably won't matter as much. Spacers support bearings
Trick question, they never break In
I have a set of the dragons with the bronson g3 bearings, no spacers (because i had no idea what they were) and i have no issues or complaints. Ive heard to use them, not use them, heard it doesnt matter....i have no idea haha
The spacer is to help the bearings stay in place and roll smoothly
I love and hate my Indies at the same time I love them because I’m just used to them and don’t want to change them but they are so heavy and take so much effort to pop. I really want to try thunders or maybe krux
Forged hollows are light though.
@@bassyeyI’ve gotten used to indies now and they really help my Ollie high
i'm gonna ditch spacers now, thanks Ricky!
Proceed at own risk
Don't.
The design on the Krux remind me of Rockos Modern Life
Haha yesss
Spacers provide internal support so your bearings stay in place especially when they receive pressure from the side like in a powerslide. Your powerslide will also be less chattery because of reduced slop. So they should blow out less often and take less wear and tear damage with the spacers. Of course, the spacers won't save your bearings 100% of the time and they can still blow out.
New deck day!
i hate getting new trucks! got some tensors for the first time and they are so damn loose!!
always had ventures and everybody said get tensors if you want more technical trucks...
the tip with the old bushings is good! might do that! thanks
did you see Andy Anderson's new wheels? what do you think? will you be getting them when they come out?
i should try them
I thought it was only the bushings you had to break in. What do bad trucks feel like? Besides heavy
how trucks turn is actually an interesting science, "bad" kind of only means personal preference and how the small variables change
It's a matter of turning radius. A larger radius is usually easier for beginners, but you can't correct yourself as fast as if you have a tight turning radius... It's a give and take for stability and precision
I never touch my trucks when I get new ones. I broke so many bushings when I did fiddle with it. So I usually just don’t bother to touch them and suck it up till they tighten on there own.
Nice
Bro i cannot belive you just tossed the same trucks on the exact same board as me. I feel very cool to have almost the same setup
Bro and you also skate rictas? Daaaamn I feel cool. Our biggest differences is bearings. I'm skating bronson for the first time but usually reds
ima try it lol
get it!
Well the spacer in my light up wheels keep them lighting up but other than that I don’t know either 😂
Man the question to whether to spacer or not is hard. I’ve been riding with spacers for ages with ceramic bones bearings.
Then comes along ben debros making a video that you should ride without spacers and how much of a difference it makes like getting that revert sound which I normally seem to lack with spacers in, but when I took them off it doesn’t seem to have made much of a difference 🤔
I break mine in then hit the bushings with 303 Fiberglass, Rubber Restorer. Last a little longer.
wow thats sounds crazy
I do the same thing when putting in hardware 😂😂
I got brand new independent trucks and one of them is so obnoxiously squeaky idk what to do
I carve some wax off and put a little bit in the pivot cup, that usually solves it unless it’s the bushings
I like to cut out the grip around my truck mounting holes. Dont like the way it squishes around the screw heads and makes the screws flesh with the tape.
Those trucks look like the seats on Melbourne's trains
Haha true!
hey ricky what is your shoe size?
Early to a Ricky Glaser video??
lets goo!
Nothing feels worse than new shoes new board. I lose all my tricks for a good few days then it randomly clicks after all the grip chills out. I think the new shoes is what gets me to suck it’s too sticky and I can’t flick where I want
5:55 how to break in new trucks starts here
Thx
Is the reason you don't skate your own custom tape that often is that you are easily distracted?
Yeah lol
See how far away people can hear your wheels squawk with and without spacers ? Maybe they help tune the acoustics so skateboarders can find each other from miles away.
love the scenery, somewhere in California?
yeah its in mammoth lakes
i think in theory the spacers provide rigidity and support the bearings under an axial load. in practice the difference is negligible. if bearings come with spacers i use them and if they dont then i dont lol. not much of a skater though so take that with a grain of salt
Spacers are used to physically connect the bearings into one unit.
The inner race of a bearing isn't supposed to spin.
How'd you know I got new trucks Ricky
Can someone just explain do you need to countersink holes in the deck or not ?
They are kinda pre sunk if u tighten it enough
@@rickyglaser ah maybe with the next board I'll try lol
Why do you skate an 8.0 with size 20 feet?
for the vibes
Out here is wild, we got mcnugget sized skaters on 9s with 60 mm all terrain wheels skating only street.
"Christmas Complete"
Spacers are meant to make your bering last a little bit longer. So they're not rubbing against other hardware or the truck itself
Fuck I wish my parents had spacers; they died when I was 12
@@cgonz8 Typos And I'm sorry to hear about that.
Use spacers.
There are 2 different sizes available.
is it normal for my trucks to get stuck leaning to one side?
Yeah its normal, maybe tighten and losen them a little and lean a lot and try kinda break them in
🍕
I have to admit I am slightly disappointed. I expected a video showing how to _break_ new trucks hahahah
next time lol
i don't think i've ever seen a pair of krux in the wild. nothing against them, just never tried them. you rip obviously, jason park, nora v, ron whaley, they must be decent at least
Have you seen the vid of a chick that was learning to skate and you were reacting to it? She replied back to it
Sick! Im gonna react! Thanks for telling me
That park kinda sucks.. like how you have to just ride off into the dirt after that rail. Kind of a bummer
Lol yeah its kinda random, nice and peaceful tho
Why do u skate such a tiny board for your feet?
Day 14 of asking you to do a collab with Johnny Ringer.
Whos that?
Dont listen to this guy. Dont tighten your trucks for a few days or so. Thats how you break them in. Maybe even just a day. Like he says bushings are weird at first. Dont tighten them down when you first get them. Wait a day.
Im to late😢

spacers are worthless
right?
Spacers affect wheel-roll way too much…
Spacers are essential for the bearing to operate correctly.
@@vorpalblades - one would think… alas.
Just microwave your trucks nothing bad will happen it breaks them in super easy
