The Siglent was about 4ns rise time vs 23ns for the Rigol. Also, you should have loaded both of the cable ends with 50 ohms. The Siglent eats the Rigol for breakfast.

When you step through the frequency range using the rotary switch what is the dwell time between selections?

Did you terminate the scope input with 50R? Would be nice to know as others have asked this too.

Dear, Did you terminate the input of your Oscop on 50R? especially when you did the step response.

    Hello dear friend,
My Rigol DG2041A function generator after shown a message (over load waveform), suddenly disable square and pulse waveform at output terminal , but all other waveform are appearing on output terminal. I request to help if possible for you that better guide in this regard.
    Thanks and regards.

Why did you change from a Rigol 1022 to a Rigol 1074 in the middle of your testing?

      The 1074 is the oscilloscope.

11:12 - is not a Rigol problem, you cannot connect directly by a BNC cable. use a oscilloscope probe 10x to compensate.

i understand these are generally audio frequency generators, but what about the higher frequencies? like 15mhz, 100mhz etc. does it turn into an rf signal generator? i want one but im confused on their purpose as far as the higher non audio frequencies. help!!!

The sine wave on the Rigol does not go above 20Mhz and the square wave does not go beyond 5Mhz

I apologize in advance if you mentioned this but I would not use a direct connect (x1) cable to look at rise times. It would be much better to say use a compensated x10 scope probe. Many scope probes have an adapter available or included to slip on so you can directly connect to a female BNC at the generator. This way you would be using the the scope's full bandwidth and reducing its effect on the waveform... especially the square waves. I know you mentioned using the same cable for both generators but why not use the same scope lead and get better information? Also there is the 50 ohm output Z of the generators as another consideration. I have the Rigol DS1022 and have been happy with it. I am also enjoying your channel and have subscribed.

Thanks! There are just so many ways to dive into a comparison, and we're certainly not metrologists. Perhaps when we get our paws on the DS1022Z we'll explore a few other nooks.

jwrtiger you are right. You have to maintain a pure 50 Ohm measuring setup to compare before discussions came up about cabel quality etc.

Hey Michael, I've got a question about the dg1022 if you set a sweep does the triger or sync out go high at the start of the sweep and remain high until the cycle is complete?

    • @michaelcostello6991

@@jordanclarke2996 Im just a very basic hobbyist. If you want me to check anything in that detail i would need exact steps to follow . This is my first scope. Im happy to do any test you want. Mike

@@michaelcostello6991 Thanks Mike, If you could set a basic sweep up, then take a the sync out on a second chan in your scope that would be awesome. I'm trying to determine if the pulse that comes out the sync out out the back is per sweep, For example if you sweep from say 20hz to 20 khz. does the square wave that comes out the back bnc stay high for the entire sweep. thank you so much :)

All good someone at the eevblog managed to get a screen shot. It does in deed stay for the sweep. Thanks :)
