I have been told LISANGA YA BANGANGA, the album featuring Ley, Franco and Mavatiku, means the gathering of wizards. I have always had a regretful appreciation of it, because Dr. Nico, the devil himself on the solo, did not make it. I watch his perfect readings of the instrumental flow of others in this song and I just have a teary eye, imagining how he could have read Luambo and Visi in the complete gathering of wizards! here, he manages to keep this song permanently at ecstacy!
Yes, Dr Nico looks very ill in this video. Even his playing of the guitar is not vintage Dr Nico, most likely because he had not plucked the strings for a long time due to illness. However, one can still see that the man was a guitar legend. RIP.

Thank your WorldSrv. I was beginning to think there wasn't any footage of Dr Nico playing, although this is a reunion and he looks very ill. African Fiesta with Dr Nico were one of the best! Any chance of footage of Verckys and Orchestre Veve playing?!
@@ShaddyRaddyWorldMusic He was way above Franco in the 1960s and early 1970s. But for his taking a break from music (following the Belgian recording company that signed him on going bankrupt) in the 1970s, Franco would still have been beneath him. @jm04151975 I am not sure what exactly killed this guitar virtuoso. However, Dr Nico was in poor health for quite some time, considering that he died in Brussels in 1985, about five years after this video was recorded.
You just flat out lied. Dr Nico was not sick for a long, he died a few weeks after he fell ill and was flown to Belgium. He died while on full musical come back. This video was shot in 1983 but he died in 1985, how is his death 5 years after the shooting of the video?
