gray, white and black are “basics” that are actually hard to get because 1) brands assume we already have them and 2) nobody bothers making good formulas for them

Yeah, it's so hard to find nail polish in those colours.
Its just about pigments. Some color pigments are rare some are common. And their intengerets are different
mostly white and grey, black is easy to find actually (found a good black at a random dollar store)
Also I feel like a lot of people probably buy a few polishes at a time, and so they pick a base color like white, black, etc. and then choose from the huge range of top coats. Since there is so many, no one top coat gets as many sales, but most people will buy a neutral with it, and there's only 3 main ones of those.
The fact that Holo taco sells beautiful greens and yellows is so underappreciated, it's impossible to find nice shades of these colors in drugstore.

Yes! Greens and yellows are some of my favorite polish shades. They are cheerful and fun but also a bit alternative.

Yep drug stores always have an abundance of red, pink and purple, some effect polishes and some blues, but almost no yellow and green
Ok but listen to this: In some years from now I would like to see a Graveyard collection that is basically, colors that got discontinued over the course of HoloTaco history, but people still love it. Like imagine in 5 years or more, you guys can do a poll and release an collection of the 10 discontinued polishes that got more votes, cause I would definitely buy some of the discontinued/limited edition ones but I didn't had the money to do on that time or something like that

As a data nerd, I love that you do this. Probably one of the coolest ways to keep buyers engaged with a brand. I keep having to force myself away from Holo Taco, and then I get dragged back in...
It's really interesting how SimplyNailogial includes analytics and such in her content. I find it engaging, and I bet plenty others do as well, so she gets a wider audience. It's a win-win, we get lovely content, and she gets more viewers.

I have all the collections so because i have so many choices it's hard to rebuy anything but toppers and bases

It might be a good idea to have darker-skinned models in future launches! They could help the yellow/orange shades pop more probably :D
Edit: Actually, she does use dark-skinned models (thanks 재희!), but the pictures and color balance really doesnt do the darker skin justice i feel, so maybe it's more of a visibility/color balance issue that's not helping!

For some reason, taking a picture of dark skin where it is just a hand or arm doesn't look as dark. I don't know why, but a lot of tattoo artists have gotten flack because they, "never tattooed on black people," only for everyone to learn that there were tons imaged, but tough to tell with a picture where just the tattoo was.

I’m Over Brew is PERFECTION and a shockingly hard shade to find. It’s got a great balance of wearability and intensity that most colors like it don’t quite hit. They’re either too bold or too boring. I adore it.
And pairing it with Plumb Luck is PERFECTION. Menchie completes the pallets for my favorite manicure of the years
I think one coat black is a color that most male nail polish wearers would choose as well. So it's got a bigger market than a lot of the others.
As a guy and a goth, yeah. Black is my favorite and definitely a go-to.
It's also a good pairing for a lot of the fun tacos they have too
I've noticed a lot of people who do nail art also tend to go through a lot of it because they use it on every manicure they do. So they have to repurchase it often.

absolutely LOVE the idea of having an archive section of nail polish so we can still look back and appreciate them. a lot of hard work goes into getting all of those photos and descriptions, so it would be a shame to take them down.
Maybe even add a "bring me back" button! So if any of them get a big traction she could consider bringing it back.

my reasoning behind the recurring sale records of tops for cremes is that when you find a color that works for you thats easy to apply you use it for EVERYTHING. gotta keep replacin it cuz u use it up so fast
That and that gorgeous gray and beautiful burgundy colors... you just don't find them, anywhere. In the drug store they're usually darker grays with a metallic or glittery bent to them... and the burgundies usually have glitter in them too. I also would make a wager that a lot of people who bought either or both also own or purchased the matte taco. They're extra gorgeous when matte.
'Cheap champagne' is literally so gorgeous, I would definitely buy it. It deserves #1 in the top list.
it's so so beautiful! I own one and get soo many compliments whenever I wear it. No idea why it doesn't perform well sales wise

when it was first launchedd i fell in love... i felt so sad because i couldnt buy it!!! and still 3 years later its my favorite.
It might seem odd but I feel like this is good marketing in its own way. While going through colours I was going oh maybe I should get that. I feel like there could even be a surge in certain low selling colours bc of this. Also nice to see what people actually buy versus what you think they would buy.
i love how happy cristine looks in her streams, i don't catch them often but i can tell how much she enjoys actually engaging with people. love this for her.
I feel like it’s almost special that the top three polishes were things that OG simply fans can relate to.
The struggle for a one coat black, a not milky white formula and a flakey Holo taco. It’s like we’ve come full circle.
I'm heartbroken that the foils didn't do so well. That is the only "permanent" collection that I bought the entire set on opening day. (I have all of the rainbow linear holos, but I got them over time.) Every time I wear the foils I get *so* many compliments on my nails, and I have been hoping that Holo Taco would bring out more! Also, I realize that yellow can be a divisive color (it's not exactly my favorite), but Lemon Sucker is such a beautiful summer into autumn shade! I don't think I've ever seen such a unique almost green yellow.
I also get lots of compliments on the foils. I even had a stranger walk up to me and say: « is this Holo Taco? », which led to a wonderful moment of nerdiness 🤓

Same! And when I let others use my polishes they're always drawn to the foils.
I looooove yellow. I had to talk myself out of Butterscotch Hop and Banana Hacks because I only had so much money and I needed cyantific and what do you pink. Plus I had to have chai and teal...oh and a top coat.
It was just really hard to pick.
And I had to be smart and think about the colors I already had in my collection, and I already have yellows. And that coral and mint. Had to give tem up cause I have a dupe.
I think part of the issue with the foils is that they don't photograph well, so people would be less inclined to buy them, even though they're really pretty irl.
duct tape grey is amazing - it is very hard to impossible to find a medium, neutral grey, in a simple creme, and you know the holo taco formula is going to be excellent - it's just a no brainer.
chameleon coat is one i buy often - my nephew passed in september and green and purple were his favorite colors. to have both made me feel near him.
RIP Cold Shoulder. The Frosted Metals collections is stunning! It can be a little intense for a full manicure but is perfect for accent nails.
Chameleon Coat is just misunderstood. It looks a bit unimpressive on photos but is absolutely stunning in person. Super unique shade shift.
I was really surprised Chameleon Coat was so low! It was on my list of polishes to buy since it was launched, and I ended up loving it even more after seeing it in person.
@@baileyt640 it’s really when I wore it for the first time that I realized how the shifts from deep forest green to muted grey create such a subtle and beautiful dynamic. I would go as far to say it’s even more powerful than the rainbow shifts 😱
I agree about the chameleon! It’s stunning with all unicorn skins and amazing with holo on top!!!
I think that's the 'problem' with the frosted metals; people use them more as accents, so they don't need to buy them as much.
I'm so glad Chameleon Coat was in this video because I've been looking for a green to bronze-ish polish to replace Emerald Blaze from Covergirl for mooonths
I honestly love behind the scenes type business content. It's fun. Purple isn't a favorite color, it's a lifestyle. People who love purple LOVE purple. 💜
My daughter did her Science Fair project on the quality of low-high end nail polish. Happy to say that Holo Taco WON hands down across multiple “test subject” using both with/without topcoats and different jobs. The research for this project was super fun and excited to see that your polish held up the best!!! 💖
You should totally have an archive page of all the shades you are not currently selling! It’s so hard to find info on past limited edition shades for someone newer to the brand
The top 3 kinda shows that the brand is exactly what it started with, a great base and a spectacular holo on top. 💅
Lemon spritzer is not yellow, it is an absolute beautiful soft holo gold that you NEED in your sunset/sunrise gradient AND New Years mani! The photos are so much more yellow than the gold it actually is.
I wear it like nude base color, it is super nice and officable
Yeah, I was surprised by lemon spritzer! It's such a lovely shade. But I saw a few people say it didn't work with their skin tone, so that could have been the issue.
That’s good to know. I painted my nails yellow once and it didn’t flatter my skin so I stay away from obvious yellows.
Really? It leans more green for me! Either our eyes work different or our skintones pull it more one way.
I absolutely love the nail color graveyard idea, you could probably add a vote to revive option bc colors go in and out of fashion all the time

Lemon Spritzer is beautiful but the pictures don’t do it justice AT ALL! When I first ordered the pastel collection I wasn’t too excited for it but now it’s one of my favourites. It looks golden and is just so pretty
Wow! Several of the low sellers are giving, prom, homecoming and/or hot girl summer vibes. With the pandemic, none of that is happening, I really feel if the world was regular, the colors would be on. 🧡💚💜

Yes! When Holo Taco got on my radar, that was the first polish I wanted!
You'd sell even more if we could get a reasonable shipping rate to UK!!! There are so many times I've logged on and had a basket-full of polishes and bundles I would love, and then I just can't face paying so much extra on top for shipping :( I know that's not your fault! I'm just sad that I'm not a customer for you. x
Yeah, as a european i just never buy merch from america/canada etc. it’s just too expensive with the shipping, and often comes very late! I do want to though and would if it was sold at a store
. I checked and my order was 30 dollars in shipping and taxes + my order of what i wanted (trying to limit myself too) was 108 or 60, So that’s.. a lot haha

Yellow is really hard for pale people; I can imagine someone with really dark skin wearing the fuck out of the lemon shades.
I do love green and orange polish; I remember having a metallic olive green as a kid and I painted my toes with it and my grandma (lovingly) told me it looked like I had some sort of fungus, lol
I sort of disagree? Yellows look good on warm tones than cool tones but I think I get what you mean lol
as a medium tone person (very pale on inside but can get very tan) i cant wear yellow, its just a no for me.
@@susie90210 yeah I am very fair with a neutral tone, and the only yellows I can pull off are very warm sunflower yellow that is almost orange/brown or very green/yellows like a new spring leaf. Anything in between kinda makes me look sick.

I've definitely noticed that dark skinned people look great in bright colours I could never wear as a very pale very cool toned redhead. Pretty much only look good in jewel tones and black. But I'm fine with it tbh I'm autistic and find bright colours overwhelming, and I'm alternative so my fave colours to wear are already black and red
I definitely would appreciate a retired polishes page on the website. I have a database of my collection and realized I had forgotten to add some Holo Taco polishes and had to go digging through the wayback machine to find descriptions. It's nice to have a reference available, especially if there's a chance of some coming back out of retirement.
I'm glad you won't discontinue any individual shades out of the rainbow sets. I love orange and green polishes. PS. Orange Drink and Purple Slushie make a gorgeous gradient together!
Simply, it would be great if you added darker skinned models on your website! I'm sure you do a lot of the nail modelling yourself, and I can tell there are other models as well. But colours can look very different on darker skin, and I find it super helpful to see what the colour looks like on different skin tones!

yes! that's what i thought when i saw the bright greens and yellows doing poorly, on white people it can kind of look like you're sick.. but with darker skintones there's way more contrast and really makes me appreciate the color more.
I was thinking that ! Like it looks sickly on paler skin tone but I kept thinking while looking at those "it would look so great on my moms though 😭". Nailogical needs pictures with darker skin tone, sometimes you don't buy something because it's hard to picture yourself wearing it 🤷♀️

@@emmadickinson3276 If you go on the website and click on the different photos for the polishes, a lot have multiple models of different ethnicities. I don't know if every single polish has multiple models though.
I'm with whoever said we need more green. I've bought every green shade you've put out. Such an underrated colour in the market in general.
I've also bought every red, so maybe I secretly love Christmas.
"Lemon Sucker" was actually one of my favorite nail polishes of 2021!! I hope it is not discontinued. I really love that you offer really saturated holographic nail polishes. I don't wear red nail polish that much, but I would wear a red holo lol. I'm also really sad to see that "Could Shoulder" is sold out 😢 Also please don't discontinue "Blue Freezie"!
They probably won't discontinue any of the polishes in the rainbow linear holos so Lemon Sucker and Blue Freezie are likely gonna be fine

I love the idea for a "retired polishes" page on the website! and I was also so surprised the metals were at the bottom! Given, I was gifted the set and probably wouldn't have bought them on my own, but I really love them. I put cold shoulder on my toes in the summer and they BLIND people!!
I wish there was an announcement about cold shoulder being discontinued. I understand why there wasn’t an announcement, but I really love that one and I’m running out of it pretty quickly. Hopefully in the future when more polished get discontinued, there can be a limited edition run that lasts a day or two where all the discontinued nail polish come back from the dead, but I understand if that’s not a thing that can be done

It’s a difficult balance between making sure everyone who loves the polish has time to get it and trying not to cause panic buying and scalping from people who just want something because it’s gonna sell out. I’m not really sure what the best option is

Matcha this past year was why I bought holo taco !! I don’t ever go out of my way to order nail polish and don’t regret. Such high quality. Lemon spritzer makes me want to put in another order!
I love the frosted metals! I do think Holo Taco releases too many blues in general, though. There must be more blues than any other colour. That might be why two of the individual blues don't sell as well, the brand is a bit saturated with them. Meanwhile there's very few reds/pinks.
You are so right, i was thinking the same while looking for a red only to realize they only have like 2. In a way it makes sense for an indie brand to go for more unusual colors. But on the other hand they can do more wearable colors like red and pink but give them their twist with a unique finish like holo or magnetic or anything.

Idk, I can't really afford these polishes and I'm not sure about shipping to my country, but I'd definitely buy some blues, since blue is one of the colours I like on my nails and rhe the traditional reds and pinks are ones I kinda avoid, but now I definitely want a colour similar to (I think ir was called so) fruit punch.
The Frosted Metals collection was something so unique that I'd never seen before in nail polish, and so while I don't buy every collection (can't afford it, lol), that was one I did spring for right away. That and the Rainbow one.
I just want to say thank you for being so transparent with the data for your Holo Taco. Holo Taco is the only nail polish brand I buy from because it's amazing and because I trust you! Essie simply can't relate.
Surprised cold shoulder sold so poorly, it's my most used from the metals collection but overall I don't use the metals very often because they're so messy to get off (unless you use peely but I reserve peely for glitter).
I hope you do make a polish graveyard haha, death valley nails retires polishes and has a memorial type page on their website.
I love orange polish, especially in the summer. It just looks so great on my nails. very summery. I also wanted to comment on the bottom group. I believe that most of these polishes were released prior to 2021, so I don't think you can automatically say they are the worst sellers, just they didn't match those released in 2021. I would think the new releases always get an initial bump in sales in their release year since they are new.
The reason the frosted metals are in the bottom sellers is because they are the kind of shades that are readily available at the drugstore and therefore people already own. I have multiple cheap silver foil polishes and they all work really well. I'd rather pay a premium for one coat black as the drugstore just can't compete
I really love the orange linear polish! I use that, the green linear, and one coat black every Halloween! My fav combo!!
It would have been cool to see the stats on bundle sales - as in which bundles were the most popular
I love the frosted metals! I definitely feel like people are sleeping on them. If you have trouble with true glitters, they are a good alternative!
Gift receipt is literally gorgeous, I'm surprised it did worse than mint money at least.
As someone who works in advertising, I would guess that something that contributed to the frosted metals not performing well was competition from other advertising during the holidays. The polishes were released during November so they had to compete with Black Friday and then holiday advertising. Also during Black Friday, I assume that a follower of Christine would have been waiting for discounts on the polishes that they already liked rather than looking to buy something totally new.
And as a fan of SimplyNailogical, I think the frosted metals are less similar to the styles that Cristine usually wears on the channel. I am kind of surprised about Cheap Champagne though, I would have figured that would be a great holiday/New Year's look
I bet when the youth fully embrace millenial/late 90s-early 2000s fashion they will fly off the shelves. The poorly selling hand is peak-Britney Spears color pallette 😂👌

I will say, I didn't think that I would like Lemon Spritzer until I actually decided to try it from my bundle. I put the solar unicorn skin on it, and WOW. It's the perfect gold, I got nonstop compliments on it everywhere. I used it for my ring and thumb accent nails for the holidays, and it was sparkly AF. It was a three coater though.
I love all your polishes! And if you made "Cheap Champagne" a "rosier" rose gold color I'm sure you would get the results you expect 💜💜
As a fellow data analyst I love this kind of content. Funny enough I own more of the bottom 10 than the top 10. I wonder how much price could play a role? Most of the prices are pretty similar, but the linear formulas are the most expensive and there are more of them in the bottom 10.
The Frosted Metals are my absolute favorites!! (Yes, even more than the holos, I admit it! lol) I literally can't stop staring at my nails when I have them on. I can live without Cold Shoulder if I must (sniffle), but if Cheap Champagne, Fake Date, or Mint Money ever go away I am going to be CRUSHED!

ive been following for so long and went through an amazing journey w my nails over the years thanks to you, and never had enough money to order from holo taco, but recently i saved up enough to reach the free international shipping, and knew i wanted the white creme for sure! its so opaque and white is such a hard color to use from drugstore. i also got my fav unicorn skins, and menchie!! unfortunately i couldnt get the flakie taco, but i got the linear and scattered
Im so sad to hear that the greens dont do very well over all, I finally bought some polish from Holo Taco this year because I absolutly fell in love with Matcha Maker and Everything is Pine 😭😭
Maybe the metallic would sell better if you showed them as accent nails in the nail art, I feel like I only use metallic nails to accent plain cremes (i.e. burgundy nails with a few gold nails/nail art)

For me, I buy the polishes when the collections are released and I’ve purchased them all so I have so many to choose from that I’ve barely been able to use them all. I do have some staples that I buy more often like tacos and maybe one coat black though. I absolutely LOVE the frosted metals formula. It’s stunning. I don’t think pictures do it justice.
Cold shoulder was the first holo taco I ever bought!!!! It was the first nail polish I had purchased and used in over 5 years!!!!

I literally have only bought one nail polish from Holo Taco (wish I could buy more, but it's not in the budget) and its Chameleon Coat! Green is my favorite color and I just couldn't pass this one by, it's so cool.
i absolutely love to see your analytic side show. i mean, you can never separated, but as someone who really likes numbers, tier lists, etc., i love this! i rarely have the time to watch the whole stream, yet alone be there for it, so i really appreciate these highlights, which i can play back. also, i must admit that though i love the frosted metals, i do gravitate more towards holo shades/vibrat cremes. i love the fact that you coe out with colors like bright blue, green, yellow, as you don´t see these often (and i love wearing them). i think that still, the majority of your customers will gravitate towards cremes, especially the basics colors, as those are aquirrable in the drug stores, but in shit quality and most people don´t wear sfx polish on the daily (i for example don´t like it when my outfit doesn´t match my nails, but sometimes i go all out annd have sfx polish on for days and just match my clothes) can´t wai t for my next order!

I love the frosted metals; it's one of my favorite finishes, but tbh cold shoulder was my least favorite of them and I sacrificed a third of the bottle to make my bonus track. I mixed it with fake date to make a steely lavender which I like so much

I don't wear yellow and orange on their own but I LOVE the rainbow mani and wear them regularly in rainbow gradients and rainbow ?skittle? manis. After the unicorn skin rainbow the regular (and pastel) rainbow mani is my absolute favourite!

Okay so I LOVE the frosted metals collection. I bought the box when it came out and I wear them all. Gift receipt mostly as a topper or accent, I’m not shocked it’s at the bottom tbh. But CHAMELEON COAT is something I wear CONSTANTLY! It’s so pretty and shifts to such a beige and all the greens ❤️ it’s so SHIMMERY ❤️ thanks for sharing Cristine! I’ve been putting off buying the two greens I love (because they’re expensive when converted to AUD, and adding postage to that makes it pretty pricey polish) but this made me want to buy them even more.

Honestly, I painted my nails with Cold Shoulder again 2 weeks ago and noticed my bottle is low...and I was late to the game buying it too. I bought it this past summer because I needed more blue polish in my life (always). I always catch myself staring at my nails when I wear it.
I wish I had caught this stream live, maybe there was some left at that time.

I really love the Frosted Metals, they were my first purchases from Holo Taco! If I didn't like experimenting with different colors and formulas, I'd wear Fake Date all year. I was seriously hoping you'd come out with a gold version in 2021, I ended up layering on the Gold Flakie Taco a bajilion times to try to recreate the effect 😅 As someone who works in marketing, I really love seeing all the analytics!
