In JNU, after MA in IR, a student has the choice of doing PhD from any one of the 17 centres/departments within the School of International studies. MD Yasin is doing his PhD from the Centre for East Asian Studies. There is no subject called PhD in IR in JNU. All the 17 centres offer PhD in different areas of the world. Like, Yasin many students from SIS go abroad on 2 or 3 year scholarship at the end of which they get joint degree from JNU and international university.

Try for both. Apply for PGT wherever possible. Try for PhD in NIEPA. NIEPA offers scholarship equivalent to Net JRF. You can also try to clear UGC Net in Education so that you can apply for Assistant Professor jobs at college level.

It's depends on department but mostly 4 hours of class per day in language in jnu 9am-1pm 👍
