i was listening to Elvis Costello before i ever got into the bands of my teen years (Green Day, Fall Out Boy, Arctic Monkeys) and it feels like every band or artist that I have grown to like was influenced in some way by him. seeing this cover brings such an indescribable warmth to my heart. i feel so connected to everything in the universe, like me and all the musicians i love had our roots planted in the same soil or something. this was a gorgeous cover and one of the most unexpected songs from his catalog but it just makes sense hearing it that this should be the one they choose.
Like Joe Jackson, Costello's first four albums contained a lot of the creative spirit fueling later energetic guitar pop bands. Costello influenced more, for sure. Both guys ventured far away from rock/pop as they made more music. If you never checked out Joe Jackson's albums all the way through Big World, you should. You could even start with Big World, it's a good selection of his styles up through that album, and some of the songs were recorded live. I got to see his Big World show in the support tour and it was very good. His primary bass player, Graham Maby, is/was an important part of Joe Jackson's music.
Don't say you love me when it's just a rumor Don't say a word if there is any doubt Sometimes, I think that love is just a tumor You've got to cut it out You say you're sorry for the things that you have done You say you're sorry but you know you don't mean it I wouldn't worry, I had so much fun Sometimes, I almost feel just like a human being [Chorus] It's you Not just another mouth in the lipstick vogue It's you Not just another mouth in the lipstick vogue Oh yeah [Verse 2] Get to the slot machine almost dead on arrival Just hit me one more time with that live wire Maybe they told you you were only a girl in a million You say I've got no feelings This is a good way to kill them [Verse 3] Select the control and then insert the token You wanna throw me away but I'm not broken You've got a lot to say, well, I'm not joking There are some words they don't allow to be spoken Sometimes, I almost feel just like a human being [Chorus] It's you Not just another mouth in the lipstick vogue It's you Not just another mouth in the lipstick vogue [Outro] Not just another mouth lost in the lipstick vogue Not just another mouth lost in the lipstick vogue Not just another mouth lost in the lipstick vogue Not just another mouth lost in the lipstick vogue
One of his best songs, lyrically -- considering his age at the time, and the culture in UK and USA at that time. And the band rips it up in this song on This Year's Model, it's their showcase of talent. Everyone's showcase, in the band. Pretty decent cover by Arctic Monkeys, and given the tone/tenor/lyrics on their first album (which seemed like an extension of this very song), they're a good band to cover this song. Though the singer (and the band) should have had a bit more bite, and a whole lot less croon & slickness, to make it really be a solid cover. In any case, though, a very nice tribute!
I really like this cover, yes, I've listen to the original but there are bits in this version that I prefer to be honest. The audio quality of course it's what kind of ruins it a bit but other than that I really like it!
Listen to the original, this guy here doesn't hold a note, no power in how he's singing this at all. Great quality video, shame there is no bass in the mix as the original bass line is a total killer.
Honestly......this guy prances on stage to.hear the girls yell at him. The way he moves is so un rock and roll. Nice pants though and the brad pitt hair. There was only 1 Elvis Presley so stop moving like a demigod.
This is the highest quality audience video I've ever seen
Matt Helders aka The rhythm panther.
Erick JL great
Erick JL aka the agile beast
His voice works so well for this song
Alex nails any and every cover he does. That's a genius ladies and gentlemen
Is this it?
@Axel Rangel-Rivera care to elaborate?
Double nope.
No that's ludicrous hyperbole. Brian Wilson is a genius,Bob Dylan is a genius, but yer man Alex , most certainly is not .
@@neilmccormick2064 You sound so incredibly full of yourself and like you think you know everything when you can’t even type properly
AGILE BEAST IS BACK
Thank Pete Thomas for that.

>drum break
>crowd chanting "alex, alex, alex"
Very nice. Just goes to show how amazingly well Pete Thomas played drums on the original.
Don't say you love me when it's just a rumor
Don't say a word if there is any doubt
Sometimes, I think that love is just a tumor
You've got to cut it out
You say you're sorry for the things that you have done
You say you're sorry but you know you don't mean it
I wouldn't worry, I had so much fun
Sometimes, I almost feel just like a human being
[Chorus]
It's you
Not just another mouth in the lipstick vogue
It's you
Not just another mouth in the lipstick vogue
Oh yeah
[Verse 2]
Get to the slot machine almost dead on arrival
Just hit me one more time with that live wire
Maybe they told you you were only a girl in a million
You say I've got no feelings
This is a good way to kill them
[Verse 3]
Select the control and then insert the token
You wanna throw me away but I'm not broken
You've got a lot to say, well, I'm not joking
There are some words they don't allow to be spoken
Sometimes, I almost feel just like a human being
[Chorus]
It's you
Not just another mouth in the lipstick vogue
It's you
Not just another mouth in the lipstick vogue
[Outro]
Not just another mouth lost in the lipstick vogue
Not just another mouth lost in the lipstick vogue
Not just another mouth lost in the lipstick vogue
Not just another mouth lost in the lipstick vogue
My Alex love ever forever, he's the one, he gives fortune of any song that he play💘💘💘Merci beaucoup😘😘😘

This somehow reminded me of Humbug b sides and Red Right Hand. So. Fucking. Good.
good spot

Just him just him beautiful cover!!! Alex give his soul everywhere everytime
Woah that's a fancy camera. Probably a video gonna come out soon about the performance or even the entire show

However I was there and it is fucking worth the wait ;)
Perfectly adapted
Wow, Alex makes you fall for any song and he hits it better than the originals! This man is so talented, as if from another realm with his gift!!❤🔥
They butcher this but the song shines through
He's practically serenading you
Congrats Renzo Gyms!!!!!Alex on traying everytime!!! With bandana, beautiful. The trainer was very very satisfied of Alex and Miles! Amazing pics!

A question for whoever can answer: what camera is he/she using in the vídeo.

3:05 who is he pointing at?
maybe the person he dedicated the song to
Probably « The Sheriff » Mark Bull.
I think that was girls having the time of their lives ahaha I checked when he did that and I saw girls dancing and jumping and waving like crazy
Smile Alex
Seeing them tomorrow! \o/
miosotis azul eu tambem Nos alive
espero que não chova :v
He got bars
Not a patch on the original .
Not at all lol
This feels so personal, wonder if it reflects a private situation
HIs face at the drum solo xd
@mrsecretdoor Was this a re-shoot with overdub or part of the live concert?
Joe Lavery I was at the concert and I can confirm it was part of the concert ( amazing btw )
William Le Joly thanks. I didn't mean to suggest they didn't play it live. I was wondering if this video take was filmed separately.
FAB !!!!!!!!!!!!
This intro is soo difficult to play on drums
Because Pete Thomas is underrated
still not fast enough
listen to the original....
excellent effort, except without the true genius playing on the original, and the spitting venom of the original vocal
100 percent accurate; makes you appreciate the Master along with the dynamics of the Attractions. But good on the Arctics for choosing this to cover.
Listen to the original, this guy here doesn't hold a note, no power in how he's singing this at all.
Great quality video, shame there is no bass in the mix as the original bass line is a total killer.
I agree - EC always belted this and sorry Alex, not quite there.
@@misterdavid5400 Totally agree; the original plus his live concert versions left the audience in shambles, like crime scenes.
Is this a new song?
Is from Elvis Costello
it's a cover, the original song is by elvis costello
Literally says in the first 15 seconds that it is a cover
Jack Small He speaks spanish, I mean, look his name (?)
مات بليز كرش ماي سكوووول
Omg Arabs who listen to AM
Too slow and doesn't get going, completely wrong.
Don't wanna be mean but damn that is not a good cover! The vibe was COMPLETELY off!
Shite.
Honestly......this guy prances on stage to.hear the girls yell at him. The way he moves is so un rock and roll. Nice pants though and the brad pitt hair. There was only 1 Elvis Presley so stop moving like a demigod.
Tempo just a tad Too slow IMAO. He can’t sing either. My daughter will kill me
Dreadful
Worst cover ever! LOL!
