To be fair to Morathi, she really gave Hellebron exactly what she wanted, the simple mentorship to succeed in Dark Elf society: the hatred, anger, jealously, and a lust for power to surpass her rival.

how have the dark elves managed to avoid extinction?

I assume the complete slave economy helps too. They can take out their violence on slaves, and probably don't need as much of a population as high elves because no true dark elf is doing manual labour
They functionally don't age and maintain fertility for hundreds of years. Without any difficulty a Druchii woman could have 50 or 60 children over her lifespan. So even if 9/10 of Druchii never have any kids, it doesn't really matter. Granted that most Druchii leaders don't have so many kids, but in the middle class things are different.
The High Elves of course could have way way higher population growth that the Druchii, but they uh.... have trouble getting it on. For example, Alith Anar is said to have spent centuries crushing on a girl before talking to her about it, and then screwing it up when he did.
My gf thought warhammer was a happy LOTR type world. She would talk down to me about it like "aw isn't that cute." Then I put on the story of the crazy murder god loving elf woman eating the hearts of pleasure worshiping orgy goers while worked up on blood and drugs. She doesn't talk down to me about it anymore.

Morathi made the mistake of thinking an empty jar is a useless one. Someone not particularly good at anything has infinite possibility. Her potential was so great she honed herself into a strong warrior and priestess despite everything. Or perhaps that was what Morathi intended all along.
This is the best lore video I've seen so far, and I'm pretty near all through several casters! Cringed at the crazy darkness and laughed at the jokes - you made my day, thank you

You should do a Dark Omen playthrough, loved that game as a kid. It's a shame more games of its type were never made (Mark of Chaos was shit).

MoC was good, but not great as Dark Omen. Hard to compare especially on nostalgia level. Have both games played, play them from time to time :)

It kind of annoys me how armor seems to play no roll in these stories. You hear about people plunging weapons "through their chest" or "slicing off arms and legs." Are these people not armored? Were the writers too lazy to say that the blades met in gaps of the armor? Or is it just implied that the weapons are so powerful that they ignore armor for some reason?

Well, it's extreme laziness or it's Rule of Cool. One of the two. Maybe both together.
bh5496 I guess it is implied by most characters to be the case, while others of the inhumanly strong, or magic weapon wealding variant just don't need mentioning unless by some merical or you know good old fashion plot the enemy makes an armor save.
Also, Orks aren't known for wearing a lot of Armor. Not all of the human armies give their mainlines armor depending on location and economic power of the government. Otherwise, the writers were probably too lazy/purposely attempting to save space or improve the flow of reading by not mention the characters specifically mention going for gaps in armor
I suggest you read the novel in question, very little point in describing every death in detail when a character is killing 10 people in 1 paragraph and like 100 people in 1 page. These stories are not about the push overs in the Elven Kingdom but the strongest among them. These are people with magical artifacts, the blessing of a God or just raw power beyond all others. Shit, the Malekith novel starts with him doing a fucking Dragon Ball move that lands him among the ranks of his enemies burning and blasting everything, leaving a giant crater. The novels are no different than the RPG, the point of Warhammer is to present a World where every battle can turn south in a second resulting in your end and even when you win the cost might outweigh the victory.
and the elves wondered why the fuck chaos was taking hold in their teritories if this counts as one of their religions?^^

So is the shadow king also like an old man? They are both extremely old and not great magic users.
The thing with Alith Anar is that no one is sure if he even is alive. His ancestors rule Nagarythe and still speak of the Shadow King in the present tense. If he is alive don't think the lore ever gave us a solid reason why. Suggested he is powered by hate and won't rest until Malekith is dead. There is also the suggestion he is favoured by Elven God Kurnous god of the hunt whose avatar is Orion King of the Wood Elves that may have played a part. As far as official lore its just all a big mystery if he is alive, If he is no one knows how or why.
