Hey guys! I'm a brazilian and I've been living in India for a few months now and omg hahaha I loved this video. I noticed the same differences when I got here. God bless your family!
Great video again. Love it. Everything you showed about the Malaysian habit is sooo true. A few more to add. In Malaysia when a person received the bill and decided to pay for it full, those he/she treated would always like to put up the sick joke of saying, "Thanks, but if I know you're going to belanja, I would have ordered more expensive dishes". Another habit: When two Malaysians are seated at a restaurant/eatery and one asked the other, "So, what do you like? What do you want me to get for you?" The other will habitually answer, "Oh, it's okay. Anything will do. I am happy with anything", even though he/she has something in mind. However, many of these habits are more prevalent and pervasive among the older generations. Younger Malaysians are more like the Americans now 😅
I'm American, but I feel like my expat experience in Asia has changed me so much, that I'm second guessing if I'm culturally American after this. The condiments, spicy food, finishing meals and taking turns at covering the bill are so relatable. Not to mention the amount of warm tea I drink, even when it's hot in summer.
Omg..so funny and so true. Logesh, you are so Malaysian and yet so American. Most Malaysian men don't cook at all and yet you are the cook in the household. Great video.
@@suhaila6204 not really. Boys in my uni usually would "elect" one cook in the house that makes food for everyone while others buy the ingredients, whereas the girls would either rotate or see if they're in the mood to cook. Most girls i know know how to cook but just lazy or always in the mood for fast food. Meanwhile boys are not much of a foodie so they can get by with just "nasi bujang". Most of them don't even cook at all at their parents' home.
Haha, my Asian hb cooks because I can't make his fav dishes. The spice tolerance level plays a major part here. If I can't taste what I'm cooking, how do I know whether I'm doing it right? 😅 Our cravings and preferences are so wildly different that we have given up trying to find a middle road. He can't make my dishes either. If we crave something, we cook it ourselves.

I see your wife has got used to eating with her right hand😊Most westerner eat with the fork in the left hand and knife in the right! We had a big laugh (and sympathy as well) when a colleague from the US accidentally bite cabai melaka (small green chilli) during steam boat dinner not so long ago. It took him like 15 minutes to recover . Poor guy.....anyway, this video is best ever for me, well done.
reminds me of my colleagues, they were asking me for a nice lunch place. so i brought them to a lalapan restaurant (rice with the choice of meat, fish or chicken plus vegetables and sambal). we have a choice of usual, hot and extra hot sambal. in any lalapan restaurant, sambal is the MAIN thing. some were asking for hot and extra hot sambal. after our lunch, our lead (Team Lead) was telling me he will never go back to the place but my indonesian and australian colleagues were grateful i show them the place and definitely come back. my lead was telling me the sambal was killing him 😄😄
Dad (this is in the 1970's) brought over a German colleague for dinner. Mom served fried beef Kerala style which includes a generous dose of chilies, mustard, onion, etc .....The German turned tomato red, sweating profusely and we thought he would have a heart attack. He recovered some time later and asked for more beef fry but with sugar on top.
Lol, so much of fun watching this video, seriously truly Malaysian attitudes and I believe by right now both of you are already adjusting the culture shock.
Malaysian malay here. When I was in the States for college, I had this American girlfriend. On our 3rd date out (if I remember correctly), we went for chinese. Then the spoon and fork thing came up. Of course I use the spoon and she used fork. She noticed it but still used fork. But after a few months with me, she figure out it is indeed easier to use spoon for rice. Now she still use spoon when eating rice years after we broke up. Proud of my "legacy" lol hope she thinks of me every time she eats rice haha

LOVE THE BLOOPERS! However I must say that this is VERY Malaysian vs American for certain cases, particularly the "give more than needed" and "fighting for the bill" part. However, "going Dutch(?)" (splitting bills) are becoming common for young adults in Malaysia, especially in the capital city because many young ones do not have enough to "settle the entire bill"; that being said, there are still occasions it will happen, especially midnight yam cha at mamak. Congratulations Kumaar family. Those are so spot on, especially the hoarding condiments hahaha... I am guilty for hoarding McD black pepper as they are still exceptionally good compared to store bought ones. Not sure why. haha.
i will tapau or takeaway food by myself put in plastic bag as much as possible especially kenduri or wedding event or open house...mostly poor people do that right ?
I am not hoarding condiments but the eateries always give us more than needed. So I have a pile at home. And to make me repentful was when I found out some of the condiments are empty! The pass by rats enjoy the feast huhuhu.
I live in Japan and I prepare white rice for my wife all the time. Try moving the rice around in the water with your hands. then drain the water out. Add more water again and move the rice around again. Keep doing this process until the water is almost clear then start cooking the rice. See if you notice the difference in the taste.
I'm Malaysian and my husband is American (married for 5 years)... and we can definitely relate! My mom sent us this video saying she couldn't stop laughing! One thing that my husband was surprised by was the fact that we Malaysians eat a pretty elaborate meal for breakfast with curry, sambal, etc. no matter how early in the morning. We would wake up at 7 am and he would just want a bagel or toast with scrambled eggs. Meanwhile, I would be eating thosai with multiple curries and chutney. And on some days nasi lemak with ayam goreng 😂
Spices play a crucial role in developing some parts of brain associated with pain ... And makes you pain tolerance... Like you can be mentally strong and react Swiftly and not loose your cool under pressure and stress . Start small .. like a single green chilli with your plate .. take small bites and build it up from there Also helps with mood swings
Hoarding condiments! Hahahaha that is so me & my mum. Not that I alwasya asked for more on purpose but I would definitely packed the extras. Nothing leave behind on the table 😆😆 same goes to the eat until finish even though I’m full already 🙊 If I leave some of the food, it means that the food is not good enough

After watching this, I realized I'm leaning more towards Malaysian than American since I grew up in an American/Arab community for a decade. When it comes to food, I'm siding with Rachel since if there's leftover in the fridge, I'll just heat it up and eat, especially if my mom cooks gulai lemak ciliapi :3
As an Indian, I relate to the leftover thing. Leftover rice, leftover bhindi, leftover potato-paneer-peas fry, leftover from the day before. And don't even talk about the chicken. And it's nothing leftover that's store-bought but home-cooked. Like, boiled rice from yesterday, heat up and fry to make lemon rice. Beautiful. Logesh and Rachel, amazing.
I'm post-soviet, and I relate to Logesh in everything except for the spicy food and maybe leftovers. Especially the last part, "But it's free!"... That's kinda weird because I look like the male version of Rachel :))) Looks like white Americans really are something else
Can so relate to these guys... LOL. I still feel pain when my kids don't finish their food. One thing this reminded me of though is a scene from "The Joy Luck Club" when the mother invites her daughter's white husband for dinner, and comments that her dish isn't salty enough... the Asian family members say "No no it's fine" but the white guy says "Oh no problem" and goes ahead to pour soya sauce in the dish!!! You really have to be Asian to get that!
If every culture on earth did what whites do with their food (the nasty wasty)... The havoc and disaster created just from food waste alone would be enough to end life as we know it. No other culture on earth waste food that way. Only whites. You know why? Their food is so unhealthy, that eating all of it, makes them fat and sick. That's why they have the rule "eat only until you are full". But that rule of "eat until you are full" should never apply to cultures in the world who have vegetables, beans and rice on their daily plates. Why would you worry about such foods making you sick? But THANKFULLY, most people of the world do not have chicken nuggets and processed french fries on their plates. Their plates are packed with nutrient rich foods. so they can FINISH UP THEIR PLATES
So true so true so true!! Logesh, Malaysia Boleh! Love the keep the extra sauce in the bag part....do it all the time with other stuff too and it's never spicy enough....
I have always considered myself American-spirited, but I gotta go with the Malaysian on this one hahaha well, not 100%, but still, especially with the one about too little rice haha, thank you so much for this video, too much fun :D

I took him to an Indian Restuarant and paid the bill and he was so happy and shocked with taste and prices. Great video :) As a Polish girl I grew up knowing that what's on your plate must be eaten - so better take a little bit first and if you still hungry just have a top up. So easy, never any food goes into bin.
My mum is kiwi and she hoards condiments. And we definitely get the to go if we have leftovers. Some Scottish idea we must eat everything served and not waste. But then we eat leftovers too.
The finishing food part was so true my mom often told me about the kids out there that don't eat enough but now everytime we don't finish our food we just give it to my brother
That was fun! On board ship, at the end of Ramadan, the Pakistani crew sometimes prepared a special meal for the Chief Officer and me (Second Engineer) as they appreciated us being sensible in assigning duties during that time. Although they provided cutlery for us Brits, it was mostly eaten with the help of Naan bread. I must say that I thoroughly enjoyed it, and to this day I often eat curries in a similar fashion. Other cultures may have different ways, but they are not necessarily better or worse, but they are worth trying (I had to quickly learn how to use chopsticks in Japan).

Younger Malaysians are more like the Americans now 😅
As a person from a Caribbean country, everything Logesh did spoke to me.
Born and raised in Midwest USA. Never been to Asia. All the same, except it's usually coffee not tea.
Omg..so funny and so true. Logesh, you are so Malaysian and yet so American. Most Malaysian men don't cook at all and yet you are the cook in the household. Great video.
I think of the opposite than your statement. Most of boys in Malaysia know how to cook rather than girls who go to university and further studies...
Waktu saya sekolah asrama, saya dulu kumpul semua sos paket. Saya punya kawan dengan bilik dorm lain semua ada beli makanan dekat luar, saya ni pula berkebun saja waktu PKP. Setiap kali diorang bawa paket sos tapi buang je, saya ambillah, tak lama lepastu saya buat tabung untuk mereka yang taknak makanan paket tu letak kat pintu locker saya yang ada tabung buatan sendiri. Saya kalau sarapan saya makan biskut kraker dengan paket sos je sebagai ganti jem. Tengah hari pulak saya masak nasi goreng pucuk ubi, pakai rempah paket yg besar skali je, bawang putih & merah tanam, garam. Simple tapi sedap & berbaloi. Saya ni berjimat cermat & sekarang saya ni pon dh kurus, syukurlah ada pengalaman macam ni.!
Chilli JAM? Haiyaa!
so good to see in comments how relatable this is all over asia, and not just in india or malaysia
I see your wife has got used to eating with her right hand😊Most westerner eat with the fork in the left hand and knife in the right! We lived in Malaysia for a couple of years and thoroughly loved it,we enjoyed learning and adapting to their ways, like ‘have you eaten?’ Instead of ‘how are you?’.😃Loved it!❤
American table etiquette is different. They cut first, put the knife aside and switch fork from left to right to eat.
Based on this... I'm asian. At least from a culinary point of view. Also, fighting over the check. Maybe that last bit is just because I'm old and can afford it, now. Great video, folks! Subscribed!
I am Indian and I laughed so much as this video is so relatable 🤣
We had a big laugh (and sympathy as well) when a colleague from the US accidentally bite cabai melaka (small green chilli) during steam boat dinner not so long ago. It took him like 15 minutes to recover . Poor guy.....anyway, this video is best ever for me, well done.
Laughed my ass out reading this one....🤣🤣🤣...
reminds me of my colleagues, they were asking me for a nice lunch place. so i brought them to a lalapan restaurant (rice with the choice of meat, fish or chicken plus vegetables and sambal). we have a choice of usual, hot and extra hot sambal. in any lalapan restaurant, sambal is the MAIN thing. some were asking for hot and extra hot sambal. after our lunch, our lead (Team Lead) was telling me he will never go back to the place but my indonesian and australian colleagues were grateful i show them the place and definitely come back. my lead was telling me the sambal was killing him 😄😄
Dad (this is in the 1970's) brought over a German colleague for dinner. Mom served fried beef Kerala style which includes a generous dose of chilies, mustard, onion, etc .....The German turned tomato red, sweating profusely and we thought he would have a heart attack. He recovered some time later and asked for more beef fry but with sugar on top.
Poor soul... Give him some milk 😅
😂😂😂
Lol, so much of fun watching this video, seriously truly Malaysian attitudes and I believe by right now both of you are already adjusting the culture shock.
The bit when they put all the soy sauce packets in her bag had me rolling. 😂 Instant memories to my parents doing that same thing
So well shown.. 'Fighting to pay' shows our hearty nature..
Love this! Give yourself a pat in the back 👏
I love your bloopers.. I had a good time laughing with this episode cos really identify with the cultural differences!
Awesome video, being south indian could relate to every scerio. Every one of it was epic.. had a good laugh 😃 too.. thank you guys
This was great! I'm actually hispanic living in the US and it's interesting how many of the Asian customs are also common in Mexican culture too!
You guys should do a collaboration with a Malaysian and American couple 'Jai&Sam', they also stayed in US too.
i think it is hard for them because the distance between them is 15 hours away by car
Yeah i want to see it too, but OMAHA and California so far
Usa bukan kecik mcm malaysia bang. Hahaha. Nak cpt naik flight tapi mahal. Flight malaysia kotla murah
The difference is that "Kumaar Family" is a Catholic family (both Logesh and Rachel, and their sons are born Catholics) while "Jai & Sam" is a Muslim family (Jai is a born Muslim while Sam converted to Islam) but still, it would be amazing to see these two families meet each other for the first time!
@@madkhaliqfarhan i don't see the correlation between them collaborating and their religion? u think they just gonna cook them meals with bacon innit without askin first?
Not sure why. haha.
As Logesh mentioned, because its free
Because the McD Black pepper is FREE! 🤣
i will tapau or takeaway food by myself put in plastic bag as much as possible especially kenduri or wedding event or open house...mostly poor people do that right ?
@@muhammad11ali11 most (not all) Malaysians do that 😂
I am not hoarding condiments but the eateries always give us more than needed. So I have a pile at home. And to make me repentful was when I found out some of the condiments are empty! The pass by rats enjoy the feast huhuhu.
"...but this is free..."
I an so PROUD of you,Malaysian all de wei !🤣
I live in Japan and I prepare white rice for my wife all the time. Try moving the rice around in the water with your hands. then drain the water out. Add more water again and move the rice around again. Keep doing this process until the water is almost clear then start cooking the rice. See if you notice the difference in the taste.
We love your videos on the culture differences and the subtle elements. You don't over do and it's great fun watching them.
Exactly. Lots of love from India ❤️❤️☺️
I can so relate to that!!! I complain to Rachel all the time that I'm so bored with American breakfast.
Aiiyoo scrambled eggs mana cukup..kene ada nasi lemak..🤣
@@hairis835 scramble egg makan dengan nasi panas dan kicap manis. Sedap oooo
Spot on guys! Everything is exactly like what you guys act on!
Fighting to pay was the best part !👍
Spices play a crucial role in developing some parts of brain associated with pain ... And makes you pain tolerance... Like you can be mentally strong and react Swiftly and not loose your cool under pressure and stress .
Start small .. like a single green chilli with your plate .. take small bites and build it up from there
Also helps with mood swings
Hahahaha.. u guys are funny...
and Kumar.. u r a truly a Malaysian, Macha 👌
As an Indian I almost jumped over my screen for HOW RELATABLE THIS IS!
Hoarding condiments! Hahahaha that is so me & my mum. Not that I alwasya asked for more on purpose but I would definitely packed the extras. Nothing leave behind on the table 😆😆 same goes to the eat until finish even though I’m full already 🙊 If I leave some of the food, it means that the food is not good enough
i will tapau or takeaway food by myself put in plastic bag as much as possible especially kenduri or wedding event or open house...mostly poor people do that right ?
True3x.
Her face when she opens her bag for the little packets of soy sauce - it cracked me up !! I can't stop laughing !!🤣🤣🤣
True true true!! 🤣😂... Except for the spoon and fork we use our hands.
That's kinda weird because I look like the male version of Rachel :)))
Looks like white Americans really are something else
haha i love the part splitting the check vs fighting to pay the most.. 🤣🤣 should've asked for chilli potong too haha...
I only got to know your channel two hours ago and now I'm watching your fourth video. You're a great family.
That's amazing! Thank you so much!
enjoyed the bloopers more...........😊
Items Included in hoarding but not limited to - tooth picks , paper napkins, salt n sugar cubes.....
I don't understand, can you explain
I was smiling, laughing, shaking my head from the start to finish hahahahaha SO ON POINT
I think you guys ada bakat berlakon. ❤️ Hidden talents
7:15 ha ha yes mostly everyone does it and use it for home. Love from India ❤️❤️
I just ran across this video, and it is hilarious! Such a fun way to show the differences between cultures. Kudos!
So true so true so true!! Logesh, Malaysia Boleh! Love the keep the extra sauce in the bag part....do it all the time with other stuff too and it's never spicy enough....
U guys should do more sketch like this... It's funny 🤣
Lucu both of you. Betul mencerminkan diri saya as malaysian. By the way Malaysian loves Free gifts. 🥰
First video I see of you guys. Loved it!
In Senegal, West Africa, it's very similar to India apparently! Everything is the same, except hoarding condiments. 😂
Funny coz it's true 😂 Great video, thanks both! My kids need to watch this so they understand why I do the things I do!
Suka tengok video kali ni. Banyak lakonan. ehee. Do it more next time !
By the way , kebanyakkan orang kat sana kunyah makanan berbunyi tak? hee.
I have always considered myself American-spirited, but I gotta go with the Malaysian on this one hahaha well, not 100%, but still, especially with the one about too little rice haha, thank you so much for this video, too much fun :D
"Splitting the check vs Fighting to pay"! So True!!! lmao
Oh my goodness!! You two are just AWESOME!! Can so relate to each and every one of your points... and absolutely love the humour! 😃😅 God bless you both and your beautiful family 👼🏽💞🙏🏽
Its 3:12am here in Malaysia & am happily watchin this video (refraining myself not to burst into laughter)
You guys never cease to amuse me.. best channel ever !
I had an American colleague he had only Italian and American cuisines in his entire life and never had any Asian or other cuisines and I was shocked. I took him to an Indian Restuarant and paid the bill and he was so happy and shocked with taste and prices. He told me Indian food is costly, yeah replied him yes but tastes better than pasta or burger and he just laughed..
He should explore other magnificent Asian cuisines to tantalize those tastebuds! 😁

So cute! May God bless both of you with infinite years of togetherness ❤
Great video :) As a Polish girl I grew up knowing that what's on your plate must be eaten - so better take a little bit first and if you still hungry just have a top up. So easy, never any food goes into bin.
3:50 yeah this one is though. Eating till full is healthier, but wasting is bad. Ah!
the fighting to pay is hillarious! ahahaha
3:30 suppose to be "so many kids in Africa don't have food to eat!" 😂😂😂
5:38 This part makes me die laughing 😂😂
Kumaar is so Asian . Spot on . Made me remember my own habits and people around me when I grewing up in Kuala Lumpur , Malaysia .
Hahahaha 🤣🤣 the hoarding one are VERY relatable. 🤣🤣🤣🤣
Enjoyed it 👍 😊. Finishing your food, yes grew up with it 🤣🤣
Kumar, though there are deferences in culture, you are blessed couple,,
I love the part "serve more than need".😆
My mum is kiwi and she hoards condiments. And we definitely get the to go if we have leftovers. Some Scottish idea we must eat everything served and not waste. But then we eat leftovers too.
The finishing food part was so true my mom often told me about the kids out there that don't eat enough but now everytime we don't finish our food we just give it to my brother
Lol I can relate to Logesh's style cos we Are the same! Malaysia boleh 🤪
Best quote.. "But these are free.."
I am Malaysian....so i am with you Logesh....hahaha.
I'm asian born in Jakarta-Indonesia, I Merried to an American man born In New Jersey-USA ... we married for 12yrs and live in Texas ... this all kind life you show we have every single day .. till now i have to eat rice everyday.
i enjoy your videos, especially the bloopers.
