I'm right there with you. Small weddings only as I got tiered of the stress and unreasonable demands of these huge weddings that are nothing more than a show most of the time.
You’re my fav TH-camr for photo! No bs and everything is super helpful and in depth! Agree with you about the mk iii. I’ve used the mk iii, mk iv and r6 and the 5D mk iii really stands out against the others for colour right out of the camera. Always the easiest to get the edits right.
Aw thank you so much!! That's so kind of you to say :) And yes 100%. Although I've recently been using my R6 for my indoor home studio sessions and loving it! Might have to make a video on this :)
Katie! So I was looking at this again, and you asked for some suggestions for future video. Here’s some! How did you find your look? Like how did you decide colors and mood for your signature photos. I’m starting to get to to more collection photography (family, couple, wedding) and I want more consistency in my edits. So maybe more post production workflows? Or just your journey in finding your look? Thanks!
Katie, you are amazing! I too am switching over from wedding photography to lifestyle/motherhood photography for ALL the same reasons you listed. Thank you for your honesty, for sharing so many amazing tips and tricks, and for sharing your work as well. You are so talented. ❤
Your video were the videos that got me into film wedding photography. I have not shot my first wedding yet.Do you think for a new photographer if wedding in 2022 that route or should I look at other areas?
Katie, thank you for these videos. They are very inspiring. Can you share your camera settings for sharp photos at 2.0 for family sessions on your digital camera. I've been experiencing issues with that as far as the settings go. I'm also a Camon shooter.
Thank you so much! It means a lot :) Which canon camera are you working with? I actually have two mark 3's and one R6 and I notice a difference in sharpness between my two mark 3's.
Hello, I like your videos and photos very much. I would like to ask you how your exposure strategy and metering method are when shooting with CONTAx645. Are the exposure methods of Kodak 400 and Fuji 400 the same?
These tips are so helpful! Thank you for sharing! I'm making the switch to families soon as well and I would love to know how you are navigating the change in terms of financial outlook. With weddings it is so nice to know how much money you can expect months in advance, but with families it can be difficult to predict how things will shake out from month to month. Would love to know how you structure your pricing as well if you're willing to share :)
Thanks so much Jess!! This is a great question :) I don't have it figured out yet actually -- I plan on continuing with my youtube videos (which bring a small income), lots of family sessions and possibly hosting more workshops / more online courses. I still MIGHT take on a few small weddings too (but I only want to book 4-6 months out at most) and these would be weddings that are close to home and generally easy for me to do :)
I'm a male photographer, so I have no clue on what sizes to get for the dresses. Was it the same dress in different sizes, or did you go for whatever was the most common? Which is a large I'm guessing? or are most girls medium? anyway great video!
I heard the colors in the R6 isn't great for colors but the GFX and the Sony A1 are sooo pricey, What would you choose in a mirrorless. What presets are you using on your digitals?
I use the canon R6 for my mirrorless currently -- I prefer my mark 3 when I'm shooting outdoors, but I actually love my R6 for shooting indoors :) I think it has something to do with the greens outside + skin tones. I use TAP (The Archetype Process) on my digitals and love them!
Great question! For "Mini sessions" clients only get a certain amount of images. Most of my full 1 hour sessions include all the images in an online gallery. I will be making a video on this :)
Personally i shoot the same subjects as you, and i also combine film and digital. So its soooo interesting to learn more from you about how you combine it. How do you edit digital to keep the flow going? Have you noticed clients liking digital or film more than the other, or maybe they dont care? Also, the bts videos are pure gold. I know its not easy to get permission to get that but that elevates your videos and explains alot while you are talking. I have so many questions.. Do you deliver digital images before film, or do you wait until get the scans before sending galleries to the client? Do you charge to just cover the extra expense for film or do you make sure the film part gives you added profit? Do you sometimes shoot only digital? Thanks for making great videos for us to learn from
Such great questions!! Will have to answer these in a video :) But in short form -- most clients don't usually notice a huge difference between the film and digital... but I do have some clients that really enjoy the fact that I shoot film. I think I do it more for myself, then I do for my clients :) I just really enjoy the medium and love the way it looks. Yes I always deliver digital previews within a few days of my sessions. And the final gallery in 4-6 weeks once I have the film scans back (for lifestyle sessions). Weddings take me between 8-12 weeks to edit.
Loved this video! So helpful! Thank you for sharing your knowledge! Also I love that you are vocal about your relationship with Jesus! Love the outro!

Ya!!!! I missed your videos!

Absolutely loved this video! And I'm so glad you're back! 🥺
Yay! Thank you Walter! :)
Some great tips there. My favorite was "speak life". I've not heard that expression before, but I like it.
Great video! Good to see you back again. Can't wait to see more videos

Thank you for this video, what happened to the fujifilm gfx you were using?
Thanks for watching Omar! :) I never was sold on the GFX system (I was just trying it out for 1 month) so I am back to shooting canon.
@@KatieNicollePhotography thanks for your answer, it would be great if you can tell us what things you didn't like and why you prefer canon.😊
@@omarfraija6841 if you go to my channel I have a video on the GFX and why I didn’t enjoy shooting with it 😄

How do I edit my photos too look bright and neutral.
could you make a video explaining what fine art means since it is difficult to understand
Can you get the link for the declarations again? The link on this and other videos I’ve watched it goes to a blank page

Hi. What do you mean by buy those photos. You don’t give all the edited photos to the client?
