I had system faults also. I changed the battery...still didn't fix it. Then I researched and found that the instrument panel was bad. Found a used one at a salvage yard. Took it to my local dealer to install and program. Fixed the problem. The dealer is the only one who can re-program the instrument panel. I tried to install it myself, which is really easy, but the anti-theft prevented me from starting the car. Vin # on the replacement instrument panel didn't match the vin # of my car.

I NEED HELP!!! I replaced the decomposed roof drain nipple on the passenger side of my LR3 following the procedure described in your video. I do not have other manuals for guidance, but it seemed straight forward enough. I have to admit, getting those plugs back into the back and front of the CJB was a horrible job...I have very large hands and the task just about killed me! Anyway...I got everything hooked up....but there was a wire not connected to any of these taped together with the big blue plug that goest into the lower front of the CJB and the green plug at the bottom. This other wire was wrapped in black sheathing and had a 2 hole male connector. I could not find any place for it to go, and surmised that it was the connector for the glove box light (which wasn’t connected on my LR3) Anyway, I finally got all these things back together right except that black wire and when I started the vehicle, the engine ran and shifted, but my door locks didn’t work off the remote, the back hatch would not unlock, the front windows would not go up, the parking break fault showed, the front and rear door open warning showed and the suspension system did not work. Did I royally screw up the connections to the CJB? Or is the a code reset that might spare me the task of doing this whole thing over again?
Had this problem on my 2006 L322. Initially replaced the battery with no success. Turned out to be a faulty ignition switch causing intermittent contact to accessory power.
I have a 2011 hse sport .. the battery will not hold a charge over night. I jump start it and it runs. But then it wont start even after dricing it for a while . The battery just does. No errors on dash other then the low battery . Noticed the right tail light flickering even when the vehicle is off .. would that kill the battery over night ? Tested the battery and it says its fine. Alternator is fine too. Im getting sick of jump startibg it everyday . What could be the cause of thz battery constantly draining ?

2006 Range Rover Sport Dashboard lights on after Battery was dead---Help | Land Rover and Range Rover Forum Battery had died and had to get jumped started and charged up THEN the following lights all came on : Brake (amber) plus two other lights ( not worried about tire pressure light) and I received the message HDC system Not Available message The car is lowered to lowest setting I recently also had sunroof leak and had the hoses replaced and thought that the brake switch had gotten wet so I watched a TH-cam video and replaced that switch (blue and white switch) Nothing changed. Have new compressor installed year ago, new alternator installed, wiring checked and hoses replaced for water all pretty recently. (Repair shop) This is my son's car and I am just a mom trying to fix anything I can before taking to repair shop Any suggestions of what else to easily check myself

I have HDC fault system error, and it won't let me remove the key. It also won't start. I hear multiple relays clicking and everything reset on my dashboard. Would this be a bad battery? I have even attempted to jumpstart and nothing happens.
hmmmm.. When you did the jump start, did you connect good negative to bad negative? or good negative to bad engine ground point (that is the proper way to jump)? I've heard of a bad ignition switch or poor ground at battery causing problems.
@@ZipZapDIY good car I hooked battery + cable to + battery and - cable to neg battery The "dead rover" was + cable to + battery and - cable to - ground on vehicle. Just used a bolt attached to engine block. It's not battery issue. I've replaced battery. Relays go crazy all over the vehicle and everything is locked up like it's preventing it from being stolen. Shifter won't shift, steering wheel won't turn, and brake pedal won't depress
your jump hookup should have eliminated the bad ground to vehicle as cause. I think I would troubleshoot for a bad ignition switch, maybe bad neutral safety switch or the mechanicals related to the shifter (perhaps can't pull out key because the truck thinks it is or actually is in drive)

Hi.i had a problem with my 06 range rover supercharged in the past when key would not turn in the ignition.i replaced the battery and car was fine for 7 months until last month when battery started getting drained and i had to boost it so many times and at one time i came to start the car and then key wont turn in ignition again.i tested the battery and it s fully charged .am i gonna need a new battery again or is there an easy fix for this.thanks
I had my battery on my 2008 range rover superchanged changed today and when they hooked up the new battery the car alarm went off. After the alarm went off the door locks, tailgate, windows, sunroof, front wipers (still can use my rear wiper) all quit and a suspension fault reads on the dash. Before I pay for costly diagnosis at the dealership, do you have any ideas?
Alternator man it charges the battery whenever I had an issue it was always the alternator they sit under the engine and get pretty beat up I changed 3 in less than 10 years battery is just the power supply charger systems is always where I had my issue I just ran into a transmission fault just recently and am going to check battery cause I literally just put a new alternator in the car also going to check brake light and switch I also have a coolant sensor out I know this cause the dash will say check coolant when I know it’s full I have had a lot of service done also serviced myself it’s not really as complicated once you know what components do what and what they are tied to as soon as I got a transmission fault I knew it was something else cause I just put a new transmission and engine in the rrsc and it’s been good for 4-5 years no faults so when I start to see one fault I wanna fix it fast so I don’t send faults through the system they Are great vehicle but they need to be maintained
Were you able to remedy this? Ours shuts off randomly now while driving or idling. Each time it says SPECIAL PROGRAMS OFF on the nav screen. Started happening 1 week after battery change.
I own a LR2 2008 and I started getting this issue today while driving: 3 lights on the dash, one on the left part a triangle with an exclamation mark and an arrow around it, one that says brake, and a round one that says ABS. also, the message saying something about hdc system not available . no clue what this issues can be caused by. was able to drive home. now i'm scared to use it. do you know what this could be? thanks
lots of lights is good... the rule is... the more lights that illuminate the simpler the problem.... in your case, check the brake light bulbs and brake light switch.
Yep, all the above and connected to the health of the battery. Even the trunk/boot button is prone to fail if the voltage is low. My issue is that even in changing the battery most of the issues don’t disappear. I’m guessing an ECU reset is required??
No Reset Required, I'd check battery ground and also positive battery cable for a good connection... i had similar issue with a battery post that was undersized and not making a good ground connection
Hi, my 2005 LR3 4.4 had a battery issue, just like described in the video! It has now the HDC fault and transmission etc. going off in the vehicle. The LR starts without issues, but it won´t move into gear, airbag suspension is offline etc. My local mechanic could read the codes on the vehicle, and they are all related with the ECM and the PCM, pretty much what you described in your video.. Now, there´s a new battery installed and I´m still getting the same reactions. Do I simply have to reset the ECM now? Thanks!
it is best practice, because there is a risk of short through the tool if touching metal of the vehicle when removing the positive cable first. If you accidently touch the tool to metal when loosening the ground, there is no risk or short.
Hi, I have a Land Rover Discovery 3 (57 plate UK). My problem is when I am driving, suddenly the engine losses power, the dash lights up like a Christmas tree and I am unable to accelerate. The management display states that there is a "HDC" fault I am able to overcome this by switching off the engine and re-starting. This action may last for some considerable time or a few minutes... The Land Rover dealer changed the "steering alignment sensor" saying that it was highlighted when they did the diagnostic check... didn't work... I know that I need to put in a new suspension compressor... could this be linked or should I change both at the same time. When the fault occurs, the suspension sometimes goes all "funny" and I have to stop and reset the engine again... Any advice would be a great help..
Hi, the compressor is unrelated. Check your brake light bulbs first, if OK I would then replace the brake light switch, I experienced exact same issues when my brake light switch went bad, dash lights up, suspension controls go dark and engine enters limp mode.. intermittent issue would go away with a restart.... no return after switch replaced.. it is very easy to replace the switch and only costs around $15 USD so no biggie if not the cause... on Amazon: amzn.to/2Shh6ZG (commissions earned on Amazon Link)

maybe try to calibrate de steering wheel sensor by rotating the steering wheel max to the right anfter that max to the left and after that to the centre. hope it works
dang, I was thinking MAF, I'm not confident that the dirty throttle body would cause your issue, but since it is part of air/fuel system it couldn't hurt to clean it, and there is an outside chance...
Hello, I tried to jump start another vehicle. I attached the cables first but hadn't yet started my vehicle, I noticed that a small amount of smoke came up from my positive side of the terminal. I removed the cable immediately. I started the vehicle and made sure that the cables were correctly attached and successfully completed the task, however, now a Charging System Fault message came on and will not go off. I have driven since then and the alternator is charging. What is the problem ? is a fuse burnt out ?
I have discovery 3 am having issues with fault codes, Suspension, Gearbox, HDC and Hand Brake, i had the battery changed several months ago and all was fine until a few weeks ago, the code reader said the ECU had lost communication with the rest of the system, each time it has happened i have stopped the engine left it a couple of minutes restarted it and all the faults have cleared and it will be fine for a couple of days the it happens again could this be a Battery issue
well im having all faults your talking about plus no speedometer. My code reader says left rear wheel speed sensor (changed it and no fix) also saying vehicle speed sensor A (didn't change that). My multi reader says 12.20 on batt and 14.10 while running. can the battery read good and still be bad? Any advice would be great! Thanks for the video
I've not seen the speedo/speed sensor problem with the bad battery. You could take the battery to a parts store and have them load test it to eliminate it as the cause.
@@ZipZapDIY 1 week after getting a new battery, the LR4 just shut off. Towed to a nearby shop. They say MAF sensors. Replaced, still shuts off. All 3 fuel pumps, crank sensor, pressure sensor, plugs, intake gaskets, etc changed. Still shuts off randomly no codes. When it shuts off, on the Navigation screen it reads SPECIAL PROGRAMS OFF. We are on our 2nd "new battery" thinking it was the battery.
Hi. I have a 2006 landrover lr3. Ever since I change an alternator and battery from orellys is giving me faults once in a while. How many volts I'm supposed to get when everything is on.
I just took a look at the workshop manual, there is no voltage info in the specifications that i could find, other than stating the obvious, that it is a 12 volt system. some notes from the specs.. The Alternator (called the generator in workshop manual) has outbput of 90/150 amps. The charging system is managed by the Automatic Temperature Control Module.
I'm getting all the faults you mentioned including the Fan kicking in, also limited gears available. I called AAA battery service the guy hooked up to his device and said the battery looks okay. Is this a reliable way of checking or can you better tell by putting a new battery in? My battery is 3 1/2 years old now.

@@TekinTavsan-f1g It was the instrument cluster. Apparently there was a CAN BUS issue on the board. Removed it myself, sent it off to a company for inspection/repair and had it back in 2 to 3 days. Reinstalled it and it’s working perfectly now.

J Marciano press the brake pedal really hard with both feet.. also those are not know to get locked in crash mode that is what lr2 are for lol... the first part might sound silly but it’s happened to me at the shop before
I started hearing a really weird sound coming from under the hood then after driving a few miles also noticed a burning smell. Later while driving back home from work I had so many indicators come on including the HDC, Transmission Fault, brake system etc. Could this be the alternator or battery issue?
not likely a battery issue because there would be no burning smell associated... i think you've got to look at the alternator, fuse box and engine compartment wiring harness

Hi I recently change both batteries and same time I done wheel alignment for lr4 (2016) model. Now fan clutch is also not working . So plz advise. The battery has been the cause of many faults on my LR3. My new battery only lasted 2 years which is strange since batteries usually last much much longer in my other vehicles.
I replaced the 50-amp battery in a 2010 Range Rover Sport and there were no problems. Now I have problems with the lights sitting on the right side and working and the air conditioning is working at the same time.

Hi I have 2005 lr3 4.4l v8. I do not use the car every day. I come home from work every 1 month and half car is parked in garage. I find out that the lr3’s battery is almost drained down completely. I am scared of using a battery tender since I am not home in case something happens. I am thinking Is it ok if I just remove the negative battery terminal for 1 1/2 months every time I come home and use the car like normal? Will I damage the lr3’s module computers or will the security function on the car work like normal or will I damage the computers on the car by doing this? Please let me know thank you.
battery tenders are fairly common for situations just like yours. If it was me, I'd get a high quality battery tender. assuming the car is secure and in a private garage. if not, disconnect the negative cable from the battery and secure it away from terminal.
Hey there , got. 2010 rr sport. I gave a boost to a family on side of road and. Ow my system is acting weird. All the codes he mentioned went off and also my rear bonnet would show open. Did the test and is pulling 8.5 to 7.8 volts. Any help or suggestions welcome. I am thinking a screwed the battery. Anyone do this mistake before ?? Thanks everyone.
For the guys that replaced their batteries and tested their alternators and still have persisting HTC faults, try and check the following: 1. TCM module that is located on the passenger side firewall in the engine. These are known to get water in them, contacts corrode, and give you the same warning. You need to take it out, open it up and clean it out with contact cleaner and a cotton swab. 2. Steering angle sensor. Some are known to loosen up over time and cause havoc with the electronics. Located around the steering shaft under the dashboard before the firewall. Make sure it is tight and not able to move with the shaft. 3. Wiring in passenger and driver side door wells (on the floor, between the seat and the door). If you have/had a Sunroof drain leak, water most likely got in, and settled in this spot as it is the lowest point on the floor. If it did, it most likely caused corrosion in the wiring harnesses located there. It is difficult to find the wire/wires with the problem, so you have to check all joints where water could have entered the wires. Open all joints up and check until you find corrosion. Clean it off as mentioned above with TCM and be sure to seal all wires up. Also make sure your sunroofs are draining properly with no water getting into the cab. I hope this helps someone. Let us know if your problem was resolved by doing what I suggested.
I had the 3 warning lights popping up on and off. Changed the brake switch(the white and blue thing located behind the brake pedal) also have read in forums a faulty or burnt brake light 🙄 has been the cause for some. Hope this helps

My hdc unavailable and suspension lowered light comes on at 30 mph ..... I stop the truck and turn it off everything resets. But again 30mph same message. What is it ?? I don’t get the errors on start up only exactly when we get up to 30mph please advise ....
Im getting hdc an parking brake fault with gearbox fault and loss of acceleration no forward drive but will reverse fine I stop turn car off let main message centre clear by removing key and then start the vehicle sometimes happens again within minutes sometimes days but it went from xmas 2020 until October 2021 without problems Landrover were no help just interested in my money it's dangerous if no where to pull over on highway if trucks behind help me please don't want to be ripped off by Landrover for anymore money

Thank you so much for the video, and I thought only valium would stop my panic attacks! Anyhow my problem started with a blown drivers window motor. I replaced this and the fuse, and also needed a new battery on my 2008 RR sport. That’s when I started getting HDC system not available, transmission fault, brake light. I then replaced the Brake switch under the steering wheel (while I was in there I noticed a wire harness that seems like it should plug into something?) previously when I would apply the foot brake I would hear and feel a clicking sound on my shifter. Seems to have fixed that problem but no luck with the HDC fault. This Fault only comes onto the dash when the brake is applied. I had the alternator tested, and the new battery which both appear good, took the transfer case module out and cleaned. Problem is still here though, please help! I also have had a brand new Air Suspension Pump and Relay change.
Mine is throwing these same codes except when is start it up the instrument panel shuts down completely with a flashing red parking break warning. New battery didn’t resolve. Any ideas?
You may have a short somewhere, I've never seen or heard about the instrument panel shutting down before, if you don't already, I'd recommend getting a code reader.. not just a generic one, get one specifically for the LR3, so you can communicate with all of the vehicle systems.. positive terminal is not live when disconnected, wont do anything in fact to reset ECU, TCM ETC. you touch positive and negative terminals together AFTER they are REMOVED from battery, this will drain any keep alive memory and residual power in the modules and have a fresh start up. If you dont have the scanner to do it

If you know who to replace a battery on a car, you can do it yourself, there is nothing special about the LR3. Losing memory presets doesn't bother me, but unless you use an OBD II memory saver you will lose presets in the vehicle memory if you have any.. here is one you can hookup to another car while you change the battery in the LR3: amzn.to/2RZ2Ybf (commissions earned on Amazon Link)

Having this issue-checked battery and it’s a good battery I just bought 8 months ago. Did the alternator test and it passed. Issue is the battery light comes on, fan it’s loud and had transmission faults traction reduced. At some point when driving on highway I pressed on gas to pass and seemed like a short circuit on my dashboard and navigation screen turn off and seconds after all lights came on dashboard. Also once I parked and my shifter got locked for me to drive, turned off the vehicle and it reset for me to be able to drive. No idea how to fix. 2006 Lr3 hse

Having the same issues then when jumped it starts and runs and gets loss of power and drive home shut it off wait try to turn it back on and it comes back with all these faults again and sometimes freaks out and glitches the dashboard
I HAVE A FIX After having transmission fault,hdc fault and a list of others I found the cause of the issue ,water had manage to find its way down the back of the scuttle panel where it meets the windscreen and had been pooling behind the battery where wiring is . What I did was remove the battery, remove and water out with a rag and used an airline to dry all wiring out along with where the water had originally pooled and checked for corrosion ,once I was happy I put everything back together and double checked everything worked as it should and for 5 weeks now I’ve had no faults show at all . I used tiger seal around the small gap it was getting through to stop water getting in again causing the same issue again Really hopes this helps someone and saves you a few hundred pounds/dollars .
Hi mate, I have a Range Rover evoque Si4. When I start up the car I get the message “ gearbox error, select park before engine stop.”Even when the gear knob is in park. Any suggestions plz?
normally i'd check the neutral safety switch, but if the evoque starts, I suspect it is more complicated than that. Do you have any software to communicate with the evoque? Something similar to 4Dcan from RSW, not just a OBD II reader.

Hi, I'm getting hdc inactive error on dashboard every now and then when I start the car up . I don't use HDC at all. I have changed the battery few months ago and upgraded capacity from 90 to 115v . Diagnostics we're done today and following faults we're found : EHC air suspension system can error message and Front left solenoid valve problem. Can anyone help how to resolve this ? lots of potential suspects, inner/outer tie rods, drop links, control arms, cv joints, sway bar bushings, ball joints..... only way to get at it is to jack it up and start grabbing and trying to move the tire back and forth listening for clunks and feeling for movement, then trying to move stuff with a large pry bar and visually inspecting it all...

Well now, I got excited about the fan comment. My 2008 Sport fan comes on from cold….I had had HDC faults multiple times a day for the past few months and cannot find the fault. My Nanocom Evo shows up to 22 faults, a lot lost comms to this and that ecu” but has just fitted a new battery last week plus done the strap clean and re secured it etc. Got me stumped. Also fails if coasting on a steady throttle, not when hitting a bump or cornering. Every single weekend I go to the shed and work through the sport to if I can find some thing, not yet…….🤣

Yep - I agree- Ive had my '06 LR3 for 9 years now and EVERY 3 years this truck REQUIRES me to change the battery. She starts acting like a PMS lady and once i give her a NEW charge in life- she acts happy and new again. So if you experience troubles out of the blue and your truck starts acting weird with the HDC or the like-- even if you try to change the battery and shes still weird- just CHANGE the battery and i bet problems just go away
Hi ive recently changed the front driverside bush arm and come to start it and it will start for a few seconds then cut out then just turn over but wont start hdc system unavailable has come on which wasn’t there before
Adam Dunne unfortunately I have replaced several batteries and arms.. Brakes... Suspension... The damn errors still occur. Trade it in for a Jeep or Lexus.

Thank you for making these videos, I just got a dead battery on my 2008 lr2 this morning, couldn't start the car and I tried to jump it, after 10 minutes, it started but it was running very rough, and there is massage saying low engine performance. Googled, people say clean the mass air sensor, so I did but the car couldnt start again and now the HDC system fault massage came up. I remember this happened 5 years and I got the battery replaced by the dealer($300 battery, $400 labor). Do you suggest I should get the battery again from the dealer and install it myself which will save me $400? Or get an aftermarket battery that will last longer and save me more. Any thought welcome, and thanks in advance.
Batteries in my LR3 only last 2 years, I've been using the Diehard AGM battery. If your battery is 5 years old, you are probably due. $400 labor seems extremely high, but the LR2 may be different, maybe need to take off a fender or something?
You saved me about $ 200 after watching your video. My 2010 LR2 was flashing all kinds of messages including " Faulty Engine", " Faulty Transmission " blah blah blah and I suspected something was not right because the car was driving just fine. Thank God I ran into your video. Sure enough, triple-A came and replaced the battery, and presto no more problems or messages. . Don't underestimate the power of experience. I NEED HELP!!! I replaced the decomposed roof drain nipple on the passenger side of my LR3 following the procedure described in your video. I do not have other manuals for guidance, but it seemed straight forward enough. I have to admit, getting those plugs back into the back and front of the CJB was a horrible job...I have very large hands and the task just about killed me!
Anyway...I got everything hooked up....but there was a wire not connected to any of these taped together with the big blue plug that goest into the lower front of the CJB and the green plug at the bottom. This other wire was wrapped in black sheathing and had a 2 hole male connector. I could not find any place for it to go, and surmised that it was the connector for the glove box light (which wasn’t connected on my LR3)
Anyway, I finally got all these things back together right except that black wire and when I started the vehicle, the engine ran and shifted, but my door locks didn’t work off the remote, the back hatch would not unlock, the front windows would not go up, the parking break fault showed, the front and rear door open warning showed and the suspension system did not work.
Did I royally screw up the connections to the CJB? Or is the a code reset that might spare me the task of doing this whole thing over again?

Had this problem on my 2006 L322. Initially replaced the battery with no success. Turned out to be a faulty ignition switch causing intermittent contact to accessory power.

I have a 2011 hse sport .. the battery will not hold a charge over night. I jump start it and it runs. But then it wont start even after dricing it for a while . The battery just does. No errors on dash other then the low battery . Noticed the right tail light flickering even when the vehicle is off .. would that kill the battery over night ? Tested the battery and it says its fine. Alternator is fine too. Im getting sick of jump startibg it everyday . What could be the cause of thz battery constantly draining ?

Brake (amber) plus two other lights ( not worried about tire pressure light) and I received the message

I recently also had sunroof leak and had the hoses replaced and thought that the brake switch had gotten wet so I watched a TH-cam video and replaced that switch (blue and white switch)
Nothing changed.

I have HDC fault system error, and it won't let me remove the key. It also won't start. I hear multiple relays clicking and everything reset on my dashboard. Would this be a bad battery? I have even attempted to jumpstart and nothing happens.
hmmmm.. When you did the jump start, did you connect good negative to bad negative? or good negative to bad engine ground point (that is the proper way to jump)? I've heard of a bad ignition switch or poor ground at battery causing problems.

The "dead rover" was + cable to + battery and - cable to - ground on vehicle. Just used a bolt attached to engine block.
It's not battery issue. I've replaced battery. Relays go crazy all over the vehicle and everything is locked up like it's preventing it from being stolen. Shifter won't shift, steering wheel won't turn, and brake pedal won't depress
your jump hookup should have eliminated the bad ground to vehicle as cause. I think I would troubleshoot for a bad ignition switch, maybe bad neutral safety switch or the mechanicals related to the shifter (perhaps can't pull out key because the truck thinks it is or actually is in drive)

I had my battery on my 2008 range rover superchanged changed today and when they hooked up the new battery the car alarm went off. After the alarm went off the door locks, tailgate, windows, sunroof, front wipers (still can use my rear wiper) all quit and a suspension fault reads on the dash. Alternator man it charges the battery whenever I had an issue it was always the alternator they sit under the engine and get pretty beat up I changed 3 in less than 10 years battery is just the power supply charger systems is always where I had my issue I just ran into a transmission fault just recently and am going to check battery cause I literally just put a new alternator in the car also going to check brake light and switch I also have a coolant sensor out I know this cause the dash will say check coolant when I know it’s full I have had a lot of service done also serviced myself it’s not really as complicated once you know what components do what and what they are tied to as soon as I got a transmission fault I knew it was something else cause I just put a new transmission and engine in the rrsc and it’s been good for 4-5 years no faults so when I start to see one fault I wanna fix it fast so I don’t send faults through the system they Are great vehicle but they need to be maintained

Were you able to remedy this? Ours shuts off randomly now while driving or idling. Each time it says SPECIAL PROGRAMS OFF on the nav screen. Started happening 1 week after battery change.
I own a LR2 2008 and I started getting this issue today while driving: 3 lights on the dash, one on the left part a triangle with an exclamation mark and an arrow around it, one that says brake, and a round one that says ABS. also, the message saying something about hdc system not available . no clue what this issues can be caused by. was able to drive home. now i'm scared to use it. do you know what this could be? thanks
lots of lights is good... the rule is... the more lights that illuminate the simpler the problem.... in your case, check the brake light bulbs and brake light switch.
Yep, all the above and connected to the health of the battery. Even the trunk/boot button is prone to fail if the voltage is low. My issue is that even in changing the battery most of the issues don’t disappear. I’m guessing an ECU reset is required??
No Reset Required, I'd check battery ground and also positive battery cable for a good connection... i had similar issue with a battery post that was undersized and not making a good ground connection
Hi, my 2005 LR3 4.4 had a battery issue, just like described in the video! It has now the HDC fault and transmission etc. going off in the vehicle. The LR starts without issues, but it won´t move into gear, airbag suspension is offline etc. My local mechanic could read the codes on the vehicle, and they are all related with the ECM and the PCM, pretty much what you described in your video.. Now, there´s a new battery installed and I´m still getting the same reactions. Do I simply have to reset the ECM now? Thanks!
Michael Muller no reset after battery... but what you are describing sounds like a brake switch malfunction, very common too on these models
1:55 If I take the positive cable off the battery first, what difference does it make.... the battery is not connected any more...
it is best practice, because there is a risk of short through the tool if touching metal of the vehicle when removing the positive cable first. If you accidently touch the tool to metal when loosening the ground, there is no risk or short.

Hi, I have a Land Rover Discovery 3 (57 plate UK). My problem is when I am driving, suddenly the engine losses power, the dash lights up like a Christmas tree and I am unable to accelerate. The management display states that there is a "HDC" fault I am able to overcome this by switching off the engine and re-starting. This action may last for some considerable time or a few minutes... The Land Rover dealer changed the "steering alignment sensor" saying that it was highlighted when they did the diagnostic check... didn't work... I know that I need to put in a new suspension compressor... could this be linked or should I change both at the same time. When the fault occurs, the suspension sometimes goes all "funny" and I have to stop and reset the engine again... Any advice would be a great help..
Hi, the compressor is unrelated. Check your brake light bulbs first, if OK I would then replace the brake light switch, I experienced exact same issues when my brake light switch went bad, dash lights up, suspension controls go dark and engine enters limp mode.. intermittent issue would go away with a restart.... no return after switch replaced.. it is very easy to replace the switch and only costs around $15 USD so no biggie if not the cause... on Amazon: amzn.to/2Shh6ZG (commissions earned on Amazon Link)

maybe try to calibrate de steering wheel sensor by rotating the steering wheel max to the right anfter that max to the left and after that to the centre. hope it works

not likely, as I understand it, the HDC handles system diagnostics, not engine management. did you clean your throttle body, clean the MAF?

dang, I was thinking MAF, I'm not confident that the dirty throttle body would cause your issue, but since it is part of air/fuel system it couldn't hurt to clean it, and there is an outside chance...

ZipZapDIY I may have figured it..I took the fuel rails off and the orings on the injectors are dry rotted and cracked I'm going to replace and update
Hello, I tried to jump start another vehicle. I attached the cables first but hadn't yet started my vehicle, I noticed that a small amount of smoke came up from my positive side of the terminal. I removed the cable immediately. I started the vehicle and made sure that the cables were correctly attached and successfully completed the task, however, now a Charging System Fault message came on and will not go off. I have driven since then and the alternator is charging. What is the problem ? is a fuse burnt out ?

I have discovery 3 am having issues with fault codes, Suspension, Gearbox, HDC and Hand Brake, i had the battery changed several months ago and all was fine until a few weeks ago, the code reader said the ECU had lost communication with the rest of the system, each time it has happened i have stopped the engine left it a couple of minutes restarted it and all the faults have cleared and it will be fine for a couple of days the it happens again could this be a Battery issue

well im having all faults your talking about plus no speedometer. My code reader says left rear wheel speed sensor (changed it and no fix) also saying vehicle speed sensor A (didn't change that). My multi reader says 12.20 on batt and 14.10 while running. can the battery read good and still be bad? Any advice would be great! Thanks for the video
I've not seen the speedo/speed sensor problem with the bad battery. You could take the battery to a parts store and have them load test it to eliminate it as the cause.
@@ZipZapDIY 1 week after getting a new battery, the LR4 just shut off. Towed to a nearby shop. They say MAF sensors. Replaced, still shuts off. All 3 fuel pumps, crank sensor, pressure sensor, plugs, intake gaskets, etc changed. Still shuts off randomly no codes. When it shuts off, on the Navigation screen it reads SPECIAL PROGRAMS OFF. We are on our 2nd "new battery" thinking it was the battery.
That's a head scratcher.. have you cleaned throttle body? checked battery cable clamps, grounds? ignition switch?

Hi. I have a 2006 landrover lr3. Ever since I change an alternator and battery from orellys is giving me faults once in a while. How many volts I'm supposed to get when everything is on.
I just took a look at the workshop manual, there is no voltage info in the specifications that i could find, other than stating the obvious, that it is a 12 volt system. some notes from the specs.. The Alternator (called the generator in workshop manual) has outbput of 90/150 amps. The charging system is managed by the Automatic Temperature Control Module.
I'm getting all the faults you mentioned including the Fan kicking in, also limited gears available. I called AAA battery service the guy hooked up to his device and said the battery looks okay. Is this a reliable way of checking or can you better tell by putting a new battery in? My battery is 3 1/2 years old now.
Parking brake fault, HDC not available, hazard lights stay on, interior light comes on, heating and suspension controls shut down!

It was the instrument cluster.
Apparently there was a CAN BUS issue on the board. Removed it myself, sent it off to a company for inspection/repair and had it back in 2 to 3 days. Reinstalled it and it’s working perfectly now.

I started hearing a really weird sound coming from under the hood then after driving a few miles also noticed a burning smell. Later while driving back home from work I had so many indicators come on including the HDC, Transmission Fault, brake system etc. Could this be the alternator or battery issue?
not likely a battery issue because there would be no burning smell associated... i think you've got to look at the alternator, fuse box and engine compartment wiring harness

If you have a new battery, I'd check the terminal connections, check brake light bulbs and stop light switch first...

Danny Quintana evoques are not known for no start issues.... I’d check to see if the engine isn’t seized... do you have a volt meter?

The battery has been the cause of many faults on my LR3. My new battery only lasted 2 years which is strange since batteries usually last much much longer in my other vehicles.
I replaced the 50-amp battery in a 2010 Range Rover Sport and there were no problems. Now I have problems with the lights sitting on the right side and working and the air conditioning is working at the same time.
What do you think the problem would be if the battery light in the instrument panel just came on? Do I need a new battery?

Hi I have 2005 lr3 4.4l v8. I do not use the car every day. I come home from work every 1 month and half car is parked in garage. I find out that the lr3’s battery is almost drained down completely. I am scared of using a battery tender since I am not home in case something happens. I am thinking Is it ok if I just remove the negative battery terminal for 1 1/2 months every time I come home and use the car like normal? Will I damage the lr3’s module computers or will the security function on the car work like normal or will I damage the computers on the car by doing this? Please let me know thank you.
battery tenders are fairly common for situations just like yours. If it was me, I'd get a high quality battery tender. assuming the car is secure and in a private garage. if not, disconnect the negative cable from the battery and secure it away from terminal.

Hey there , got. 2010 rr sport. I gave a boost to a family on side of road and. Ow my system is acting weird. All the codes he mentioned went off and also my rear bonnet would show open. Did the test and is pulling 8.5 to 7.8 volts. Any help or suggestions welcome. I am thinking a screwed the battery. Anyone do this mistake before ?? Thanks everyone.
For the guys that replaced their batteries and tested their alternators and still have persisting HTC faults, try and check the following:
1. TCM module that is located on the passenger side firewall in the engine. These are known to get water in them, contacts corrode, and give you the same warning. You need to take it out, open it up and clean it out with contact cleaner and a cotton swab.
2. Steering angle sensor. Some are known to loosen up over time and cause havoc with the electronics. Located around the steering shaft under the dashboard before the firewall. Make sure it is tight and not able to move with the shaft.
3. Wiring in passenger and driver side door wells (on the floor, between the seat and the door). If you have/had a Sunroof drain leak, water most likely got in, and settled in this spot as it is the lowest point on the floor. If it did, it most likely caused corrosion in the wiring harnesses located there. It is difficult to find the wire/wires with the problem, so you have to check all joints where water could have entered the wires. Open all joints up and check until you find corrosion. Clean it off as mentioned above with TCM and be sure to seal all wires up. Also make sure your sunroofs are draining properly with no water getting into the cab.
I hope this helps someone. Let us know if your problem was resolved by doing what I suggested.
I had the 3 warning lights popping up on and off. Changed the brake switch(the white and blue thing located behind the brake pedal) also have read in forums a faulty or burnt brake light 🙄 has been the cause for some. Hope this helps
What about flashing hazard lights just flashing on & off HDC fault & brake . I change the battery it’s s die hard but I don’t know if the new battery has enough voltage

Im getting hdc an parking brake fault with gearbox fault and loss of acceleration no forward drive but will reverse fine I stop turn car off let main message centre clear by removing key and then start the vehicle sometimes happens again within minutes sometimes days but it went from xmas 2020 until October 2021 without problems Landrover were no help just interested in my money it's dangerous if no where to pull over on highway if trucks behind help me please don't want to be ripped off by Landrover for anymore money

if you have capability, test your steering angel sensor.
@@ZipZapDIY he was long with the outbound battery...about 2 months...so this happened with first start...maybe the angle sensor needs to calibrate?

Thank you so much for the video, and I thought only valium would stop my panic attacks! Anyhow my problem started with a blown drivers window motor. I replaced this and the fuse, and also needed a new battery on my 2008 RR sport. That’s when I started getting HDC system not available, transmission fault, brake light. I then replaced the Brake switch under the steering wheel (while I was in there I noticed a wire harness that seems like it should plug into something?) previously when I would apply the foot brake I would hear and feel a clicking sound on my shifter. Seems to have fixed that problem but no luck with the HDC fault. This Fault only comes onto the dash when the brake is applied. I had the alternator tested, and the new battery which both appear good, took the transfer case module out and cleaned. Problem is still here though, please help! I also have had a brand new Air Suspension Pump
and Relay change.
Mine is throwing these same codes except when is start it up the instrument panel shuts down completely with a flashing red parking break warning. New battery didn’t resolve. Any ideas?

You may have a short somewhere, I've never seen or heard about the instrument panel shutting down before, if you don't already, I'd recommend getting a code reader.. not just a generic one, get one specifically for the LR3, so you can communicate with all of the vehicle systems.. positive terminal is not live when disconnected, wont do anything in fact to reset ECU, TCM ETC. you touch positive and negative terminals together AFTER they are REMOVED from battery, this will drain any keep alive memory and residual power in the modules and have a fresh start up. If you dont have the scanner to do it
I have this message HDC fault system not available. However, I put in a new battery 2 days ago. So, you saying that the message is due to a bad battery can't be the case. What else causes this?
Check your brake light bulbs.. and make sure the battery terminal connections are tight..

If you know who to replace a battery on a car, you can do it yourself, there is nothing special about the LR3. Losing memory presets doesn't bother me, but unless you use an OBD II memory saver you will lose presets in the vehicle memory if you have any.. here is one you can hookup to another car while you change the battery in the LR3: amzn.to/2RZ2Ybf (commissions earned on Amazon Link)

Having this issue-checked battery and it’s a good battery I just bought 8 months ago. Did the alternator test and it passed. Issue is the battery light comes on, fan it’s loud and had transmission faults traction reduced. At some point when driving on highway I pressed on gas to pass and seemed like a short circuit on my dashboard and navigation screen turn off and seconds after all lights came on dashboard. Also once I parked and my shifter got locked for me to drive, turned off the vehicle and it reset for me to be able to drive. No idea how to fix. 2006 Lr3 hse

Having the same issues then when jumped it starts and runs and gets loss of power and drive home shut it off wait try to turn it back on and it comes back with all these faults again and sometimes freaks out and glitches the dashboard
I HAVE A FIX
After having transmission fault,hdc fault and a list of others I found the cause of the issue ,water had manage to find its way down the back of the scuttle panel where it meets the windscreen and had been pooling behind the battery where wiring is .
What I did was remove the battery, remove and water out with a rag and used an airline to dry all wiring out along with where the water had originally pooled and checked for corrosion ,once I was happy I put everything back together and double checked everything worked as it should and for 5 weeks now I’ve had no faults show at all .
I used tiger seal around the small gap it was getting through to stop water getting in again causing the same issue again
Really hopes this helps someone and saves you a few hundred pounds/dollars .

Hi mate, I have a Range Rover evoque Si4. When I start up the car I get the message “ gearbox error, select park before engine stop.”Even when the gear knob is in park. Any suggestions plz?
normally i'd check the neutral safety switch, but if the evoque starts, I suspect it is more complicated than that. Do you have any software to communicate with the evoque? Something similar to 4Dcan from RSW, not just a OBD II reader.

ZipZapDIY I have no errors. The battery was replaced first time on 1.24.08 and second time on 2.11.16 by Land Rover Dealer. I bought this one owner 2007 LR3 three weeks ago. This LR3 was serviced 100% at Land Rover Dealer all the time. Great record. So do you think battery preferred to be replaced already?

Hi, I'm getting hdc inactive error on dashboard every now and then when I start the car up . I don't use HDC at all. I have changed the battery few months ago and upgraded capacity from 90 to 115v . Diagnostics we're done today and following faults we're found : EHC air suspension system can error message and Front left solenoid valve problem. Can anyone help how to resolve this ? lots of potential suspects, inner/outer tie rods, drop links, control arms, cv joints, sway bar bushings, ball joints..... only way to get at it is to jack it up and start grabbing and trying to move the tire back and forth listening for clunks and feeling for movement, then trying to move stuff with a large pry bar and visually inspecting it all...

Well now, I got excited about the fan comment. My 2008 Sport fan comes on from cold….I had had HDC faults multiple times a day for the past few months and cannot find the fault. My Nanocom Evo shows up to 22 faults, a lot lost comms to this and that ecu” but has just fitted a new battery last week plus done the strap clean and re secured it etc. Got me stumped. Also fails if coasting on a steady throttle, not when hitting a bump or cornering. Every single weekend I go to the shed and work through the sport to if I can find some thing, not yet…….🤣

Yep - I agree- Ive had my '06 LR3 for 9 years now and EVERY 3 years this truck REQUIRES me to change the battery. She starts acting like a PMS lady and once i give her a NEW charge in life- she acts happy and new again. So if you experience troubles out of the blue and your truck starts acting weird with the HDC or the like-- even if you try to change the battery and shes still weird- just CHANGE the battery and i bet problems just go away
if you ask what battery we use- we use the BEST Duralast (Autozone) that you can afford. in 2020 we spent $275 for ours

Thank you for making these videos, I just got a dead battery on my 2008 lr2 this morning, couldn't start the car and I tried to jump it, after 10 minutes, it started but it was running very rough, and there is massage saying low engine performance. Googled, people say clean the mass air sensor, so I did but the car couldnt start again and now the HDC system fault massage came up. I remember this happened 5 years and I got the battery replaced by the dealer($300 battery, $400 labor). Do you suggest I should get the battery again from the dealer and install it myself which will save me $400? Or get an aftermarket battery that will last longer and save me more. Any thought welcome, and thanks in advance.
Batteries in my LR3 only last 2 years, I've been using the Diehard AGM battery. If your battery is 5 years old, you are probably due. $400 labor seems extremely high, but the LR2 may be different, maybe need to take off a fender or something?
