Brilliant tip regarding 2 competent drivers - I remember seeing a video of a guy who fell down in WA, was in pain, but then got himself into the car and drove to hospital - he had fractured his pelvis or hip. Once extracted by medical professionals, his wife was perfectly able to move, and later park, the van herself, and after her husband recovered she had driving duty for months
Great advice. We also have a whistle near the caravan door. Any issue eg:someone trying to get in, blow that whistle loud!!! We also bought a sensor light, which we Velcro to outside the van near the door. Deterrent for night time activity.
As an emergency services worker I totally agree with all your info and advice. Especially the emergency plus app and ‘what 3 words’ that app makes it so easy for emergency services workers to locate you when needed in a hurry. Most of us are aware of it and have been trained in it. Using that app is so much easier and quicker for us than trying to work out gps co ordinates. Great info guys. 👍🏻
Excellent video. I remember when my dad use to stay at Caravan parks and he said in areas there was a bad element that try to steal your stuff, and that was in caravan parks so I personally think there’s the risk of that anywhere.
Great series. Totally agree that Australia is one of the best countries for safety when travelling around. Keep up the great work and looking forward to more on your trips and especially your off grid series.
I have used those first aid kits for years, now cannot remember how long. They are excellent and cost effective……So correct what you said. The best think is the layout……Every 2 yrs I check creams, add Band-Aid’s simple ones and larger ones (usually a simple pack from chemist with a selection). Replace anything that is out of date (that has an active ingredient in it). Is used for work but I use the same kit when bush. Has saved my eyes a couple of times on simple jobs of painting a fence and having paint flick into an eye etc. I have also added a couple of different size tampons as they are semi sterile and great for absorbing blood from a gushing cut or wound. They assist the rest of the kit.
You guys are so good at these info blogs, everyone seems to think so. You explain things well and you deal with the most relevant and important issues. I look forward to more of them from you guys. Thanks and all the very best.
Lots of good information and helpful hints. Totally agree that having all the gear is one thing but having it readily available for all scenarios is really important.
Great tips Simon & Liz. Down loaded the emergency app straight away. Been camping for over 20 years & when going out for the day, I would take valuables or lock them away!!! Never had a problem.
Real good advice. I have a PLB mainly because I go to sea often on my own. The PLB lives in my Stormy life jacket (PFD). great thing is my wife bought it for me. So she wants me to stick around :).
Thank you for this. My husband is not comfortable free camping, but I'm all for it. Hopefully this changes his mind, plus me nagging him to free camp 😆
Hi guys great video i have found that over the years if something is going to disappear it is usually when you are in a caravan park or large camping area all the best Ron
Such great tips. That Emergency + app is such a great idea. Good security info to trust your gut on campsites too. You get more confident the more you do it. Be alert not alarmed!!! Thanks guys. Great video. Loving this series!!! ❤
Thank you for sharing. We have been looking for a decent first aid kit that doesn't cost an😮 arm and a leg. We brought 2 different kits that complement each other. Plus, an extra saving with your sneaky discount code. Thank x
Thanks guys. That was very reassuring to hear and see. We are preparing for our first long trip into the outback, Perth regional to Cooktown region through the middle. We are now both retired and have a lot of experience caravanning but not remote off grid. This series has given us lots of good tips. Thanks. Glenn.
Thank you Simon and Liz so many great tips especially when camping remotely. We already had the DO 35 hitch on the van and recently purchased a Zoleo with the In touch Plan for our half lap around the west. We are feeling very comfortable to travel now.
Hi Folks, another great episode. Your early morning spot lost out to a game of golf with one of my sons today lol, but now watched. A good topic to cover, Im often being asked about how safe I am, especially as Im a solo traveller. Im always choosy about where I camp because of both the solo situation and my age, I try not to take unnecessary risks while at the same time enjoying the experience to the full. If I have the tent out, I only leave basic stuff in it if Im away hiking or touring with the attitude that if it gets taken it can be replaced. I always lock away or take, purse, ph etc with me. So far Ive always had good experiences.Cheers Cheryl
Appreciate the content of today’s video have organised probably most of the gear as will be travelling full time soon just need the new van to arrive to start packing and doing the check list.Tight lines and may god bless 🦐🐟🦈🎣🙏
A personal locator beacon is great for a Medical rescue. Great video. Yes, you need to use common sense. In my 20s went camping. Came across a camp with bikies. So of course not , we kept going. Mobile phones today allow emergency calls if off the grid/phone reception. You can attach motion sensors on your van or tent or whatever. They dont cost much. Or if you are paranoid. Use a motion camera that has an audible alarm. Or an alert to your phone if you are in mobile range.
Thanks guys. Some very level-headed and pragmatic information you’ve shared. You continue to be a wonderful inspiration, and am looking forward to treading a similar path starting middle of the year.
Another great video guys. Answered a lot of the questions my wife has been asking me for the past 12 months and has made her feel a little more at ease about off-grid and free camping in our hybrid camper trailer. Thanks again .... and I have subscribed to you guys and the newsletter for the comp!. Cheers - Hugh
Another great episode full of useful facts. I finally got off my arse and got the 1st Aid kits (outdoor bundle with snake kit) thanks for the discout code. Happy travels
Enjoyed the vid pretty well set for most of it just waiting on new van and house to be sold then all the stuff we have bought in the last 10 months can be sorted to there spots cheers guys🍻
@The Lifestyle Pioneers no bull shit you too it was a great video, you have come such a long way bloody well done, regards to you an the bride from Wayne and Melissa bridges.
Thank you so much for this invaluable resource! The effort you guys put into these videos is very greatly appreciated that's for sure. We have downloaded the emergency app, and also been across to Survivor and ordered a few of their first aid kits. Have also subscribed to Everything Caravan and Camping's newsletter. Love you work, and your travels. THANK YOU. Kerryn
What 3 words. So interesting. I typed your location in and you are on the East Coast of Tas near Binalong Bay, north of St Helens. We are currently about 3 hours south of where you were, in Triabunna. We are going to the Sydney Caravan show to look at Titanium Caravans 😊
Interesting addition to your emergency comms section is that the Emergency Plus app (which I downloaded thanks to you) also includes your 3-word location at the bottom of the location section. There's no need to download the separate app. Great video by the way!
Loved the video and agree with everything you said. We too do a lot of remote camping around the country, the one thing we make sure we do is not leave our keys, phones or wallets near open windows or doors, even during the night. If we're sitting under the awning the windows on the driver's side will be shut or at least on the first lock. If we're sitting away from the van door (visiting a neighbour), then screen is at least locked with a key. My theory is, if I can't see it then it's an opportunity for theft. We've never had a problem whilst camping but we have been robbed at home which has made me more security conscious. We also carry Whasp Spray so if we are physically threatened, we can defend ourselves none lethally and deescalate the situation. Again we agree with not using weapons. This was a very informative video, particularly for those who may not have the experience like you or us.
Thanks guys for your thoughts and tips on this important subject. I agree people's tolerance will be different for each person/couple which you addressed well. As a nurse, I agree a well laid out kit that is stocked is important but I reckon go and do a first aid course so you know how to treat the illness/emergency with your kit. Looking forward to your next vid, cheers
Absolutely! We thought of this after we'd produced the video but we'll be sure to touch on keeping your first aid knowledge up to date in the next one. It's an important point.
Excellent video! A lot of travellers will get some great tips from here. Concise and informative. And can you please lets know what your hiking pack is? Like the look of it.
Thank you! The one you see Simon wearing recently is a camera bag from Shimoda. It's relatively new and we're really liking it. We might do a video on it soon.
Great episode legends!!! I just went to the Survival site and finally bought a couple of kits. The snakebite vid on their website is very well done :D Thank you for this series, you both are doing excellent work. Be safe
Great video guys, one I was looking forward to, you hit everything I was curious about & you are so right, Australia is such a safe country. Thank you for your honest & level headed video. I have subscribed & signed up for the newsletter🤞🏼🤞🏼 you got to be it ur to win 🎉 See you next Sunday!
@TheLifestylePioneers That's interesting. Still here: biggest problem is the guilt of knowing there are lotsa people living REALLY 'rough' (including women with kids who'd be better off in this 1-bedroom unit that I don't really need). Yeah, that's a pretty good reason to have more than one driver!
Hi we have been traveling for 18 years 6 of those full time and have never had an issue safety wise great show keep up the good work
Good to hear
At 11:08. Awwwww. Simon , we know you just wanted Liz to ciuddle into you! 😘😊
Thanks for the systematic info.
😁
Great advice. We also have a whistle near the caravan door. Any issue eg:someone trying to get in, blow that whistle loud!!!
We also bought a sensor light, which we Velcro to outside the van near the door. Deterrent for night time activity.
Thanks for the extra tips - it's always good to be prepared!

That's great to know, thanks, Ben!
Great tips. We pick up our offgrid van later in the year and safety has always been in the back of my mind.
Glad it was helpful!

The WiTi system is brilliant - not only is it an alarm but it also locks the brakes. No ways the van can be moved with all four brakes locked up.
Thanks for an informative episode. A lot of great helpful information 👍
Glad it was helpful!

Thanks for sharing, Judith. It's worth mentioning that you won't be able to make emergency calls from your mobile when out of range in many places.
Thanks for all the tips
No problem!
Thanks for sharing 🙏🏻

Thanks guys, great episode again. Downloaded the emergency + app, hadn’t heard of it before. Also will get a couple more first aid kits. Good reminder

If we don't fell good about a site, we just pack up and go.
Wiki camps comments r good to go by.
For sure!
Spot on with opportunistic thief’s. It’s simple to lock then to leave outside the van
For sure!
Thanks Guys great information

Thanks Debbie. All great tips and great to hear we're on the same page as other seasoned travellers!
Great video very informative. We're in it to win it.
Good luck!
I’ve recently completed a first aid course and completely agree. It was a life changer & well worth the $ for piece of mind.
Absolutely! We thought of this after we'd produced the video but we'll be sure to touch on keeping your first aid knowledge up to date in the next one. It's an important point.
Great tips thanks 😊

Great episode guys, very informative, our daughter purchased an AED for us to travel the GRR.
That is awesome!
Great episode legends!!! I just went to the Survival site and finally bought a couple of kits. The snakebite vid on their website is very well done :D Thank you for this series, you both are doing excellent work. Be safe
Great to hear, thanks!
Great vid. Lots of useful tips. ... One Day....

I have subscribed & signed up for the newsletter🤞🏼🤞🏼 you got to be it ur to win 🎉
See you next Sunday!
Glad you enjoyed it!
What about basic problems like 'window-knockers'?
It's never happened to us 🙏
@TheLifestylePioneers That's interesting. During 16 months of living in my van (stayed local because the house was burned down) I only ever had a problem from a 'security guard' who actually drew his gun on me. But though nobody else actually approached me the police arrived a few times because they'd had 'phonecalls'. (Don't know whether from one source or more than one.) When their efforts to 'move me along' failed (I'm familiar with the law) one sympathetic policewoman (somehow) organised me into a very useful and attractive housing unit. Still here: biggest problem is the guilt of knowing there are lotsa people living REALLY 'rough' (including women with kids who'd be better off in this 1-bedroom unit that I don't really need). But the many stories I heard whilst 'on the road' ,and since, encourage me (since I'm preparing to move out soon) to be armed. I'm not a 'nervous' type, but the world is looking more and more like something that needs to be guarded against. (That was NEVER an issue in the Australia in which I grew up.) Your experience is a bit of a bright light in a darkening sky. All the best.
Thx guys gr8 vid
Consider adding a defibrillator to your kit
They are getting very affordable now days
