At 4:50 the list says The Netherlands has 11 holidays. I don’t think that gives a realistic picture. We have holidays that are not automatically a free day (like Liberation Day and Good Friday) and we have holidays that are on Sundays which is already a free day, like Easter Sunday and Pentecost Sunday. The holidays (without Sundays), that give you a day off work, are: New Years Day, Easter Monday, Kings Day, Ascension Day, Pentecost Monday, First Christmas Day and Second Christmas Day. Liberation Day is a holiday but not automatically a free day. For me it is only a free day once every five years, so the next will be in 2025. Luckily that one isn’t in the weekend. Good Friday is a holiday but not a free day unless you take a day off. And none of the staggered holidays fall in weekends. So this year 2023 we got 7 holidays which result in an extra day off work, 2 holidays which are on Sundays and 2 holidays of which you are dependent of the agreement between employers and trade unions (CAO) if you have an extra day off work.
Thank you for your valuable remark. Indeed, when I said 'holidays' I meant days off work but you rightly pointed out that while it might be a holiday, it doesn't necessarily means that people are off. Good example with the 5th of May. The Government recoginizes it as a holiday but we are not off in 2023. www.government.nl/topics/working-hours/question-and-answer/public-holidays-in-the-netherlands
To all people willing to move to Netherlands. Don’t. Just don’t. There is a whole spectrum of why you should stay away from this lands but just trust me. You will regret it.
Good Friday. aren't most Dutch people also free. And the Friday after Ascension Day? Yes! Ascension is always on Thursday! And on Friday I am also free. Because, you then in Spakenburg. The Zuidwal competitions. What? Is the Zuidwal competition? A sailing competition on a very small piece of water. What used to be the "Zuiderzee"! And there was someone! who, had the great idea! Let's make it big clump of grass. Present! Flevoland!! And now I have to look at it!! With a little bit of water for my boat! #spakenburg #netherlands
