Interesting Video of Butterfly & Beetles Competing for Tree Sap (see notes in description)

The Butterfly which is sipping sap is a Hackberry Emperor, & one of it's primary food sources is sap. The beetles are June Beetles. To see the butterfly display to look larger, that action starts at about minute 2:15. The beetle's back leg wiggles happen throughout.
The first part of this video shows what drew me to what ended up being a very interesting scene. At first, I saw 2 butterflies, and since each was flexing it's wings, it seemed like an attractive photo op, as everyone likes to see butterflies display their colorful wings. However, the bottom butterfly became distracted and it's wings were closed. When I zoomed in, I saw he was in some heavy competition to drink Live Oak Tree sap out of the same hole that some beetles were enjoying it from!
The beetle in the front most part of the video stuck his head inside of the bark crevice, and at times, you can see his back legs move a little, kicking out into the air as though he's annoyed because he knows he is facing a rival, the butterfly.
If you watch all the way through, the butterfly even begins to display a little, as though trying to appear larger, my favorite part of this video. Apparently this was a very affective strategy, as by the end the beetles have moved further away, giving him full access to that favored bark-crevice.
This was one of the most interesting nature scenes I've stumbled on in the small world of insects, and I got very close up clear video. I hope you enjoy watching this story unfold. I'll be posting a 2nd video of the 2 butterflies drinking sap together after this... as that is how I found the scene when I returned a little bit later on.
