I hope that Chris's match vs Golarsa at Wimbledon will be posted. I remember watching it and cried like a baby when she pulled out the win. A very underrated match that never gets shown.

I had not seen this since it aired in 89. I wish her Wimbledon career here was not framed by the men she was seeing at the time. . Ten finals 8 times sf , only once not reaching the sf. The interview shows Evert relaxed and funny. Seeing how much tennis meant to her dad in the shot of her parents in the Wimbledon stands you see the seriousness of her dad with the graciousness of her mother - Chris has both qualities

I will always remember Andy Mill's reaction to the greatness of his wife. A great win, and match in the final analysis. Would love to see the whole match, scratch to substance.

That shot of Andy crying. You knew how much that match meant.

It showed how much he loved her . That he knew how much a loss then would’ve upset her and the fact that Chris called upon the far reaches of her pride to care enough to put it all out on the line and still risked truly caring about a match that 4 out of 5 times being down 5-3 x you’d lose being down 5-3 and 5-3 30 love Golarsa serving . She pulled out 3 miraculous winners when all the chips were down. 4 times a point away from match point . She lost in SF but lost at age 34 to a all timer in a young Graf who had won the grand slam the year before . She lived up to her seeding and put up a good fight. The last point was a double fault by Chris which showed that at 34 she gave Wimbledon everything she had left to compete with . Great champion , a legend .

so many errors in this segment as any true tennis fan and evert fan would know... for example the segment where 1985 comes on the screen and you see evert with her updated wood racket... evert switched to graphite beginning of 1984...

Never any doubt she have it all she had on a surface that did not favor her original game . She was forced to learn parts of the game to do well on grass . She made it to 10 Wimbledon finals losing to great grasscourt champions in Navratilova , king when she was 17, split finals with Goolagong . Her 3 wins came against Mandlikova , Goolagong , Morozova . With a truer predictable bounce she won 6 opens , 7 French opens and 2 australian( against Sukova and Navratilova both on grass ) Wimbledon grass during the Evert Era was much faster than the grass there today plus the ball bounced lower then with that type of grass mixture .

A very sympathic player, much more than Navratilova or Williams.

John Lloyd has an inflated opinion of why she lost Wimbledon in 78 and by the way there was no need to demean Evonne Goolagong and her 1980 championship in which she played all over Evert

she should of won the 78 final. she was up a set and a break. and after beating Martina in the semis in 1980 she suffered a letdown it wasn't much of a match

What in the heck are you doing - looking for any perceived slight against Goolagong. Even with Goolagong playing her best , the best from evert will beat Goolagong period. Evert played with so many errors in the first set and a half, up 6-5 evert hit three successive errors. In tiebreak Chris. Issued two easy sitter forehand down the line with open court Chris would rarely if ever miss. Plus two forehand’s unprevokedlong. Evonne played best she could but if it had gone 3 sets no way Goolagong would’ve won. Evonne hadn’t beat evert in a 3 set since 76 and 74, 72 . Chris was 26-13 and Chris never lost to Evonne after 80 W final. She in fact had beat Evonne in 3 sets at chickchester just the tournament before Wimbledon that year. Evonne just had to keep the ball in play that first set was up 3-0 and practically lost the set.

There you go again. Chris was a greater player than Evonne. Evonne played her finest matches back to back - something she never did in her career. Evonne deserved that 80 Wimbledon win but chris did play in a daze after beating Navratilova in SF. Had Martina won , Martina would’ve beaten Evonne.
