There is no salvation outside the Church" comes from Letter LXXII of Cyprian of Carthage (who died in AD 258) and indeed that was true, there was no other Church but the Orthodox Church, that Christ and his apostles began at Pentecost. It was a terrible shame that Rome decided to split from Christ's Church formally, in AD 1054. Rome was the first 'Protestor' if you like, but it was not through corruptive practices as the Protestors of the Reformation declared, it was because the Bishop of Rome wanted to be more than first among equals. He wanted total control and ultimately to be declared supreme and infallible. As Pope Gregory 1st claimed "No one does more harm in the Church than he who has the title or rank of holiness and acts perversely". How prophetical was that comment, sadly. We pray and wish that the present Bishop of Rome will return you all to the one true Church, as explained in all the passages of Scripture that you shared. You seem very sincere Sean, so I would beg you and your family return to the Church that Christ and his apostles started
From a Protestant brother. “But because it is now our intention to discuss the visible church, let us learn even from the simple title of "mother" how useful, indeed how necessary, it is that we should know her. For there is no other way to enter into life unless this mother conceive us in her womb, give us birth, nourish us at her breast, and lastly, unless she keep us under her care and guidance, until, putting off mortal flesh, we become like the angels in heaven (Matt. 22:30). Our weakness does not allow us to be dismissed from her school until we have been pupils all our lives" - John Calvin, French Protestant theologian, 16th century “Therefore, the church, as the bride of Christ, is the womb in which the infertile unbeliever encounters the gospel, is impregnated by the Holy Spirit by the preaching of the word. It is she who nurtures us, feeding us at her breasts with the pure milk of the gospel, later giving us the solid food of sound doctrine and discipleship. She guides us with her long wisdom, taught to her by the Holy Spirit from the Word of God, over long ages of her history--the very wisdom of God in Christ, to whom she submits. And her divine-human Bridegroom cares for her, leading her and loving her, teaching us through his Word and by His Spirit--in her church." - John Calvin, French Protestant Theologian, 16th century “We believe, since this holy congregation (The Church) is an assembly of those who are saved, and that out of it there is no salvation, that no person of whatsoever state or condition he may be, ought to withdraw himself, to live in a separate state from it; but that all men are in duty bound to join and unite themselves with it.” - Guido De Bres, Belgian Protestant theologian, 16th century
Factually, the First Church was the One Holy Apostalic Catholic Orthodox Church consisting of one church in five regions. The five regions were Jerusalem, Antihoch, Constantinople, Alexandria, and Rome. Each church had one patriarch that oversaw the church fully recognizing that Jesus was the head of the church. During the great schism of 1054 Rome and the Patriarch of Rome went their separate ways bringing upon a new Church, the Roman Catholic Church. So the word "Catholic" simply means universal in this context. Roman Catholic is distinct from Orthodox Catholic. So I am a literalist, I take the words from the Bible and History for the literal truth that they are. I get criticized for it, but the way I look at it is this--truth is truth. Even if someone teaches you the sky is red doesn't make it red. It will always be blue.
That's not true, it was the so called "Orthodox" Churches that broke off from the Orthodoxy of the supremacy of the Successor of St Peter and rejected the unique position and power given to him by Jesus and again through Church Councils and Saints.
@@ultron3693No bishop in the early church ever had universal jurisdiction. The Pope was an important bishop being the bishop of Rome but the concept of a papal monarchy (like Vatican 1 idea of the papacy) was unheard of in the early church. Rome left the pentarchy. Read the Alexandria document and the Chieti document that Rome release which admits the Orthodox are correct.
From a Protestant brother. “Out of the church there is no salvation.” ZACHARIAS URSINUS, 16th century German Protestant theologian “Outside this Christian Church there is no salvation or forgiveness of sins, but everlasting death and damnation.” - Martin Luther, German Protestant theologian
So what you are saying is we are saved by faith plus membership in the Catholic church?! Also if there are people saved without knowledge of Christ but as you say it sincerely seeking God, then what’s the point of doing evangelism? If indeed a person can be saved whether they knew Jesus or not.. it makes no difference
In the Old Covenant, the Temple was the dwelling place of the Holy Spirit and in order to be close to God you had to go to the Temple. Once the veil was torn and the room containing the Holy Spirit opened up and the Holy Spirit went out into the whole world because of the shed blood of Jesus Christ, the dwelling place of the Holy Spirit is no longer a building or temple, it is the body of those who receive the Holy Spirit by becoming Born Again. This is referenced in God's Word as 'The Body of Christ'. This is "The Church". For any person who is Born Again and has the Holy Spirit dwelling inside of them (just like the 1st and 2nd Temple), they are "The Church" and are Christ's representatives on earth. To continue to believe the church is a for profit business organization based out of Rome or any other place is to be in great error. The Church may be called the Body of Christ because of these facts: 1) Members of the Body of Christ are joined to Christ in salvation (Ephesians 4:15-16). 2) Members of the Body of Christ follow Christ as their Head (Ephesians 1:22-23). Christ is the head of the church, not a sinner (pope)! 3) Members of the Body of Christ are the physical representation of Christ in this world. The Church is the organism through which Christ manifests His life to the world today. 4) Members of the Body of Christ are indwelt by the Holy Spirit of Christ (Romans 8:9). 5) Members of the Body of Christ possess a diversity of gifts suited to particular functions (1 Corinthians 12:4-31). “The body is a unit, though it is made up of many parts; and though all its parts are many, they form one body. So it is with Christ” (verse 12). 6) Members of the Body of Christ share a common bond with all other Christians, regardless of background, race, or ministry. “There should be no division in the body, but . . . its parts should have equal concern for each other” (1 Corinthians 12:25). 7) Members of the Body of Christ are secure in their salvation (John 10:28-30). For a Christian to lose his salvation, God would have to perform an “amputation” on the Body of Christ! 8) Members of the Body of Christ partake of Christ’s death and resurrection (Colossians 2:12). 9) Members of the Body of Christ share Christ’s inheritance (Romans 8:17). 10) Members of the Body of Christ receive the gift of Christ’s righteousness (Romans 5:17).

No one in the NT taught that you must belong to a church to be saved. The catholic must be in subjection to pope Fracis to be saved: “We declare, say, define, and pronounce that it is absolutely necessary for the salvation of every human creature to be subject to the Roman Pontiff.” (Pope Boniface VIII, the Bull Unam Sanctam, 1302.)
Hi Justas? Are you coming at this from a Universalist perspective? For example, when Jesus says, "He who hears you hears me, and he who rejects you rejects me, and he who rejects me rejects him who sent me," Would you say that ultimately everyone who seems to reject Jesus will ultimately come to accept Him and go to Heaven?
@@Justas399 I agree with that statement. So would someone coming at it from a Universalist perspective, they would just say that everyone will eventually come to believe in Christ.
