@@marcryvon I've always been a fan of the Mk2. My parents bought their first one, a 2.4 manual with overdrive, in 1961. We went as a family to the Jaguar factory in Browns Lane to pick it up. It was RHD, but was equipped for British Forces Germany to comply with West German regulations - steering column ignition and lock, speedo in kmh, no Jaguar figure on the bonnet). My mother had a crash on the autobahn in 1966 and the car was written off. Then they bought a 3.4 manual, overdrive. I sort of learned to drive in this car. 210kmh on the autobahn at age 18. I was immortal :-) These days I drive a 2007 Saab 9-3 Aero (2.8 V6 turbo) manual with a few upgrades. Around 225 Kw and 430 NM. It's a lot faster than a Mk2 (it's speed limited at 260 kmh), but it feels like one in many ways.
I love the light blue because it is a happy colour that makes me think of sunny days, it perfectly matches this car that brings smiles to everyone like only a summers day can. I'd keep it similar but chuck 6 coats of laquer on to make it shine and display the curves of her.
Yes, Gregory - agreed; darker colours throw those classic curves into greater prominence. The other car in the garage (in Indigo Blue) is a good example. Sparkly highlights... Mmmm...
The most beautiful XJ that Jaguar ever made. Love the suspension and engine mods Harry has made too. I had a 4.2 20 odd years ago before prices went crazy and despite being a rust bucket and the British Leyland build quality it is probably the most enjoyable car I have ever driven and owned. Buy the best one you can afford - all parts special to the coupe are EXPENSIVE to replace and everything will need some attention by now. You will need deep pockets to restore one of these properly now. I must have bought mine from Arthur Daley too 'cos when I took it for MOT the following year I discovered it didn't have any inner sills! I ended up swapping it for a much shinier '79 Mercedes W116 450SEL with a full MOT, but sadly no soul....
Do it for the love of the car. If you have the disposable readies, go for it. Not everything in life has to recover every pound spent. It's a beautiful car well worth the expense, for no other reason than it's a lovely thing to have. Really looking forward to seeing this one as it progresses. Good luck Harry.
The sound on the clip at the end says everything about this car! Well done Harry - a lot of dosh but to keep a car like this in circulation and as you say to be seen at events for people to enjoy -totally worth it!
Great car, loved the color - it's like something out of a old movie, sad to see it go. It's understated, which suits the nature of the car.... Hopefully the new color won't be screamy.
Props to you Harry for going the extra mile and doing it properly. This is a very cool car that deserves the best restoration. I cannot wait to see the end product. Its a V12 coupe. It will only go up in value as the years tick by.
That's a beautiful car Harry, worth every penny of that to restore it! Love how knowledgeable this guy is too, looks like it's in safe hands - can't wait for the follow up video in 4 months or so! :) PS: DARK GREEN.
Oooooohh Harry, please consider the beauty of jag Signal red with light beige vinyl roof. An original combination showing off and highlighting the wonderful lines of this stunning car. I had a series 2 redone like this in the 70's and it looked just ......well.... stunning, with original chrome wheels too. Even the cashier at the local supermarket who never spoke to me in 5 years, had to pay me compliments when she saw it, haaa. Imo, modern and non original colours just don't work.👍🇬🇧
Love these restorations Harry’s doing. Two cracking cars, both worth doing id say. It’s great that Harry just hides nothing from the viewer, costs etc. Like the idea of the coupe in something like a metallic Brinjal - farrow and ball colour.
The “Jaaag” coupe is a beautiful shape still remember drooling over one of the racing versions at Goodwood a few years ago, seem to remember that it was one of the loudest non formula cars up the hill.
Funny that you thought that I agree entirely but really think Harry should keep it the same colour but all of us are resigned to the fact that it seems he wants to change it so gunmetal or dark metallic grey would look the biz.
if you go to 2.22 on the video you see the white Rolls and a red Ferrari , the Jag is exactly the right colour . I hope he keeps it blue! as the garage needs a blue and what a car that is!
SUGGESTION : Maybe an episode with a graphic designer playing around with software to show you suggestions for different paint schemes. That would be cool and show other owners contemplating a colour change what help is out there. Anyway, this will be another great series to follow along with ( for me, I'd take a light colour to show the bodylines, and go two-tone which is my favourite - either different roof colour or bring it down the body ).
Harry, Another great video, there are a lot of car blogs on TH-cam -- you videos are among the best -- informative, down-to-earth, and no BS. I look forward to your video every week, thanks for taking the time to make these videos-, I know there a lot of work but your effort is appreciated.

I'm so sick of British Racing Green (especially with tan upholstery which seems to be a North American dream combo). If I had a "C" type replica, BRG would be great, but does every British sporting car need to wear it?
So pleased you are restoring the XJC, one of my all time favourites Harry. They are a rare beast, I viewed one last year but it would have been a major money pit. Still on the hunt for a half decent one. I would go dark metallic blue, grey or green. The car deserves a sophisticated colour. Can’t wait for the forthcoming episodes.
I'm in love with the Harrys XJC. V12 & manual, good God what a combination. So looking forward to seeing the finished article, hopefully Mr Metcalfe choses a nice shade of blue as I think blue suits it so well. 💙💙💙
watching the first video of this is what got me started on your channel! we had one as the main family car for years (auto). the idea that you could make it manual really brings it alive. really enjoyed that.
"A very common area for corrosion", points to the whole car lol. Still absolutely love this thing, glad Harry is getting it made solid again. This is one of most beautiful car shapes ever made, right down through the later XJ6s etc. I actually love the blue, but hey, it's Harry's car. That said, the blue on the other car is fantastic as well....
Always had a soft spot for these. Mates dad had two in the late 80’s, a red double six Daimler coupe (once owned by the big gaffer at Seddon Atkinson) and a white jag v12 coupe. Both luscious 👌
Love the video, I have always been told that you never see a two door Jaguar without a vinyl roof as Jaguar could never get the roofs right? Now I've just seen two together! Brilliant! Keep up the good work Harry.
Hi Harry, really wonderful that this great part of Jaguars history is getting this level of care and attention. For me a vibrant colour like the Purple on your other Jaguar would set this car off beautifully.
I started my working life at a BL / Jag dealer when the S1 XJ6 came out, they were a fantastic car, beautifull to look at, fast and comfortable but get underneath and there was a distinct lack of underseal and in some places paint, ideal to own for a couple of years then move on before the rust bubbles started. the lower order Austin / Morris offerings were even worse. there is a documantry "the long goodbye" that is well worth a watch.
I love the dark blue of the other coupe they have, green comes a close second but the red and purple don’t do it for me. I’m not paying the £20k though so I’ll leave the choice to you Harry 😂😂😂
@@adebnam1 I wonder how it would look with the Daimler XJC's chrome pinstripes. Wire wheels would look cool too so long as they were the same size as the originals. I love spending other people's money haha
An old friend of mine had one of these to tool about Sheffield when they were in production, as his daily driver. He went a Silver Metallic, Black Ever-flex roof finished off with a set of Wolf Race Alloys. Great car and always regretted selling it. A Red BMW 635csi replaced it, but was not as much fun.. My mother had a crash on the autobahn in 1966 and the car was written off. Then they bought a 3.4 manual, overdrive. I sort of learned to drive in this car. 210kmh on the autobahn at age 18. I was immortal :-)
These days I drive a 2007 Saab 9-3 Aero (2.8 V6 turbo) manual with a few upgrades.
A some what darker shade of Emerald Green would look amazing
Yes, Gregory - agreed; darker colours throw those classic curves into greater prominence. The other car in the garage (in Indigo Blue) is a good example. Sparkly highlights... Mmmm...
I have a Bullitt Mustang so I'm quite partial to dark green and I concur!
I’m going to enjoy following this one Harry - love these XJ Coupes!
Do it for the love of the car. If you have the disposable readies, go for it. Not everything in life has to recover every pound spent. It's a beautiful car well worth the expense, for no other reason than it's a lovely thing to have. Really looking forward to seeing this one as it progresses. Good luck Harry.
This is a beautiful Jag, I' ll wait for next restoration video.
It is a fine car, good for you for saving it!
Squadron Blue
Props to you Harry for going the extra mile and doing it properly. This is a very cool car that deserves the best restoration. I cannot wait to see the end product. Its a V12 coupe. It will only go up in value as the years tick by.
That's a beautiful car Harry, worth every penny of that to restore it! Love how knowledgeable this guy is too, looks like it's in safe hands - can't wait for the follow up video in 4 months or so! :)
PS: DARK GREEN.
Imo, modern and non original colours just don't work.👍🇬🇧
Definetly keep the color as it is. It’s beautyful.
no
Love these restorations Harry’s doing. Two cracking cars, both worth doing id say. It’s great that Harry just hides nothing from the viewer, costs etc.
Like the idea of the coupe in something like a metallic Brinjal - farrow and ball colour.
The same green as the project 7 would be amazing
I am delighted to see that you are restoring the V12 Jag. As a die hard fan of the manual gearbox, I consider it one of your greatest vehicles.
That deep red that "Morse" had on his Jag would look great.
I adore the present blue colour.
The background colour on the jaguar hanging behind them when discussing colour. It's right there! It'd be the perfect shade of dark green
The “Jaaag” coupe is a beautiful shape still remember drooling over one of the racing versions at Goodwood a few years ago, seem to remember that it was one of the loudest non formula cars up the hill.
It’s a testament to Harry that he’s prepared to put that sort of money into a old Jaguar albeit a classic XJC 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
Bentley do a beautiful gunmetal grey that would look beautiful on this car
Spot on
Funny that you thought that I agree entirely but really think Harry should keep it the same colour but all of us are resigned to the fact that it seems he wants to change it so gunmetal or dark metallic grey would look the biz.
if you go to 2.22 on the video you see the white Rolls and a red Ferrari , the Jag is exactly the right colour . I hope he keeps it blue! as the garage needs a blue and what a car that is!
Gray. A very boring color..
Grey isn't a colour....it's an undercoat!
SUGGESTION : Maybe an episode with a graphic designer playing around with software to show you suggestions for different paint schemes. That would be cool and show other owners contemplating a colour change what help is out there. Anyway, this will be another great series to follow along with ( for me, I'd take a light colour to show the bodylines, and go two-tone which is my favourite - either different roof colour or bring it down the body ).
magnificent car, happy to hear it's getting some tlc. Will miss the blue though, it's pretty striking
Harry, Another great video, there are a lot of car blogs on TH-cam -- you videos are among the best -- informative, down-to-earth, and no BS. I look forward to your video every week, thanks for taking the time to make these videos-, I know there a lot of work but your effort is appreciated.
Awesome car, so glad to see it getting tlc. Can’t wait to see how it turns out
Thanks for sharing Harry. Chocolate Brown with some metal flake for me colour wise. Can't wait to see it finished.
I like how every panel was common for rusting away 😆 Classic BL. Great video. Looking forward to this resto
Yes we tend to forget Jaguar was kept alive by BL once hundreds of new production jags in the parking area rusting before sold
But thank goodness they were kept in business and thanks to Ford too
It's annoying to keep hearing fun poked at BL quality considering how much junk was on the roads in those days.
@@ashleyweston5420 👍 42 years and still here. Whilst many a French Italian and German car have gone.
BL made some great cars, just look at the prices they fetch now.
It is great to have people like Harry who have both the money and the desire to preserve cars like this. BTW, my vote for color would be BRG.
That thing sounds amazing!
I'd be happy with it as-is because sometimes it's nice to have a car you don't need to be meticulous about and can concentrate on enjoyment. That said, it's nice to see this beauty taken to the next level. I loved the blue, but Harry has great taste. I'm sure whatever is chosen will look great.
Agree with Harry on the Blue color, it just looks a bit... sudden. I think British racing green would go just right.
Thank god, no mention of range or charging rates. Finally
Bingo. And not a SUV.
I'm in love with the Harrys XJC.
V12 & manual, good God what a combination.
So looking forward to seeing the finished article, hopefully Mr Metcalfe choses a nice shade of blue as I think blue suits it so well. 💙💙💙
A nice shade of metallic gun metal grey would look fantastic, and don't even think of replacing the vinyl roof.
Jaguar just happen to have an opalescent gunmetal, opalescent maroon is pretty sweet looking too.
Glossy Black....with a Matt Black vinyl roof 😁 Looking forward to what Harry picks, because that JaaaaG can be any colour really
Well done Harry for preserving a glorious bit of British automotive heritage! And getting a bespoke version into the bargain.
When the panels are fixed you need to put in some NVH remediation, that cabin should be quiet.
watching the first video of this is what got me started on your channel! we had one as the main family car for years (auto). the idea that you could make it manual really brings it alive. really enjoyed that.
Been waitin for this! Cheers Harry
Silver is the colour for one of these IMHO. 😁
@Paul Fellows what would you suggest?
@@kevinford6420 imola red bmw colour
Cannot wait to see the finished article... love these restoration videos Harry....
I actually love that blue color.
Always had a soft spot for these. Mates dad had two in the late 80’s, a red double six Daimler coupe (once owned by the big gaffer at Seddon Atkinson) and a white jag v12 coupe. Both luscious 👌
You should change the dash to a series 1 style, with the dials in the center instead of the ugly vent.
When he mentioned doing work inside and then showed the dash, that’s what I thought he was going to say!!
Love the video, I have always been told that you never see a two door Jaguar without a vinyl roof as Jaguar could never get the roofs right? Now I've just seen two together! Brilliant!
Keep up the good work Harry.
It will be interesting to find out what colour Harry goes for
I think he'll go green
Hi Harry, really wonderful that this great part of Jaguars history is getting this level of care and attention. For me a vibrant colour like the Purple on your other Jaguar would set this car off beautifully.
So confident that its a great video as usual, I just get a brew & get the like button clicked before i even watch it 👍🏼
Still my favourite jag. A mate who had one summed it up nicely.... it’s an elegant hooligan!
Great video Harry, interested to see how it turns out.
Not just treated to the Lancia restoration we now get the Jag! Looking forward to this one - now what colour will Harry go for! 🤔
It's my car! I was delighted to see it featured - a Harry M inspired project ready for collection in the next few weeks!
@@adebnam1 you can tell that blue in sunlight will look a bit special!
@@adebnam1 I wonder how it would look with the Daimler XJC's chrome pinstripes. Wire wheels would look cool too so long as they were the same size as the originals.
I love spending other people's money haha
@@adebnam1 Fantastic! How wonderful that you've restored her, she's such a gorgeous car. Amazing color in the sunlight for sure.
@@adebnam1 looked lovely, hopefully not too long until it’s back on the road and you can enjoy it 👍
An old friend of mine had one of these to tool about Sheffield when they were in production, as his daily driver. He went a Silver Metallic, Black Ever-flex roof finished off with a set of Wolf Race Alloys. Great car and always regretted selling it. A Red BMW 635csi replaced it, but was not as much fun.. A Deep Red Pearlesent would show off the curves rearly well as well. Decisions, decisions. Keep up the great work Harry, Evo subscriber from Ed 001. Best Rgs, Paul Rodman.
Please don't change the colour. I love it.
This Jag is my favorite car in Harry's garage. It's not like the others aren't really desirable, but the Jag is just something really special. It's loaded with character.
It has to be painted silver Harry...it’ll look sublime
good call that....
Delighted to see the old girl getting a full body restoration. It's well worth spending the money on this beautiful machine. If Harry offered me the pick of his collection, the XJC is the car I would most like to own. Forget all the fancy, impractical supercars, the XJC is svelte and very classy- and very useable. Good effort H! Looking forward to more updates on this, and seeing the final product. How about doing a John Steed Broadspeed replica with wide arches in BRG?! Seriously cool machine that would be- one of only two- the other being the original which is currently undergoing a full resto.
