  • Lycoris radiata is one of the most beautiful flowers to mark the change of season in the fall. This year I was lucky to buy a bunch of bulbs from the NCBG and got them transplanted into my garden.
    Apologies for his loud the ac is in the last segment. Even with my new microphone I couldn’t avoid that sound- it’s HOT and DRY here.

    It’s been two years and I’m finally seeing flowers around the garden. Just as you said, I too forgot where I planted mine. It’s a nice surprise when I find one. 🤣

      They really are so incredible!!! Often they pop up after a hurricane drops a bunch of rain, so people also call them “hurricane lilies”

      Just before mine fully bloomed, I thought they looked like red honeysuckles with those long stamens. 😅🥰

    What a happy accident with getting more bulbs. Now you should have a substantial grouping of them. I hope they thrive & put out beautiful blooms for you. Looking forward to the bloom display - fingers crossed for great garden weather this summer! Hot & dry here in Jax too.

    I grew up in China in the 90s when tulips were not commonly available and people would sell fake tulip bulbs that turned out to be Lycoris radiata (I liked them anyway). Now in the US, Lycoris radiata bulbs are not only more difficult to find but are way more expensive than tulip bulbs LOL. In Chinese, they are called 石蒜 or stone garlic. The entire amaryllis family is named after them. Sadly, they are not hardy in my Zone 5b garden so I planted Lycoris squamigera as a substitute (not exactly the same but at least from the same genus).

    We moved into our house last November and previous tenant had planted lots of flowers, bushes and trees. Was fun watching to see what new things bloomed. Last Sunday I noticed 6 stems pop up about a foot apart in a line and about 2 1/2' tall and all but one are fully bloomed. 2 are under 2 Rose of Sharon bushes so they are in complete shade and the other 4 get full sun for at least 8 hrs. They no leaves just the stem and I was wondering if safe to dig a couple up and cut in half and replant. It are they to young and that is why there is not any leaves.

    Nice to find your channel. Sorry I am late in commenting. I just bought a Lycoris from Plants Delight, and I am wondering if I can put it in a Terra Cotta pot?

      I’ve never grown them in pots. They are dormant most of the summer so you have to careful to not over/ under water during that time. But in theory yes

    is it possible to grow them indoors and if yes how long will they survive

      @BrieThePlantLady  ปีที่แล้ว

      No I think they need temperatures differentials. Im not an indoor gardener so I’m not sure.

    You aren't scared of planting Lillies with your cats? I have one who likes to chew on grasses. He gave one or my Penisetum Cassian's a flattop.

      Nope o do not worry at all about planting Lily’s or anything else. Cats are SMART and they rarely nibble on plants that are poisonous. If they do they rarely eat enough to matter. And there are much more poisonous plants that lilies or lycoris that are way more common: hydrangea being #1.
