Hey, I finally got to deliver on a highly requested video! The timing isn't the best with record-high unemployment due to COVID and of course recent discussions about police brutality. But hoping this video will be useful to anyone looking for a job right now and in the future :)
All ad revenue from this video will be donated to organizations dedicated to criminal justice reform, bailing out protestors, and fighting racism. Rest in power Breonna Taylor, George Floyd, and Ahmaud Arbery.

Unemployment has little to do with COVID. The capitalist system always had expansion and contraction cycles. Moreover the whole system has a structural problem since the 70's and the contractions are getting worse.

@@grapefives7762 yes, COVID feeds and is fed by the economic crisis dialectically. The determinant factor however is the economic system. There were several nasty viruses before but none of them had ever become a global sanitary problem because the economy was not in such a bad shape so it could mobilize resources to deal with it effectively.

I recently had a job offer sent to me (after 4 months since the interview with no follow up email after the interview) and when I asked for more money, they resented their offer. This job wasn't in the tech field. In the interview they told me what the high end of the salary would be and I remember that number and when I asked for the high end of the salary they resented their offer. LOL.

Love this!! As a recruiter, just want to highlight that is is illegal for recruiters to ask you what you currently make (i.e. what is your current salary?). However it is not illegal for recruiters to ask the following that imply your current salary: what are your salary expectations? What are you hoping to make in your next role? I really appreciated how you deflected the question while also speaking about your excitement for the role!

i recently read a book that covered the life long hurt of getting your first job in a recession and the like. showcasing that if you start out on a lower salary it will statistically hurt you your entire career. very interesting read that one. also, all you people looking for a job, know your own worth and don't settle for anything less. as someone who has hired a decent amount of people myself, i most definitely value that sort of attitude and frame of mind from a prospective employee, from a character perspective as well.

Do not negotiate salary offers during your 1st interview!!! This is trick every company uses to eliminate applicants. Just dodge the question and tell them u'll communicate after a month or so. Remember the salary is stated in the job application and that's why u applied.

I'm more on IT/DevOps side of things for around 10 years. Anyway, it's close enough.
You can expect salary question during the initial screening 9 out of 10 interviews. In 7 out of 10 cases they won't proceed if you don't give a number. This is something to be ready for. I also prefer to speak money during or after technical part, but it's uncommon.
Another thing to consider doing: if you have a lot of ongoing interviews and put slightly different numbers (depending on location, company etc) - you need to keep notes, since the question usually comes up at every stage and you have to be consistent. It's also good to put other notes like impression, perks besides the salary, follow-up questions and time etc.

Really great vid loved the example you gave. A link to your video about how to evaluate a tech offer could be great for when you have to negotiate with a competing salary. I think companies sometimes also count their RSU in the offer number which makes it sound higher than it actually is, so maybe 🤔 a video on things like that would be good. The audio could use some work, but some of your other videos sound better so I’m assuming you’ve already made this a priority.

These tips are amazing! Really helpful tactics for an area that I and many other people aren't especially confident in.

A video on interview tips, technical and behavioral, would be great! I did a technical interview and moved on to the behavioral interview round for an internship at a tech company (SWE role) and I'm not sure what I can expect! Thanks :)
