    Is there something that could be done during the annealing that could protect the silver from oxidation? I once saw a guy working on a brass gear for a clock he was making, and he used some kind of paste when he heated that gear up. Can’t remember specifically what it was or why he used it thought though. Wondering if that had something to do with anti oxidation.

      +Hugh Jafro Yes thete is something but I can't remember what it's called. I don't mind the oxidation though. It is really easy to get rid of by cleaning it in a pickle at the end of the process.

    If you wear the ring daily, how long does that antiqued finish last? Do you just need to clean it up periodically with the jewelry wipes or go through that whole process ever so often? I'm looking to buy a size 9 Morgan from you, but can't find any pics of what that would look like. Thanks and good job.

    • @CoinRingsfromTheMint
      @CoinRingsfromTheMint  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Zack Moore It really depends. The antiwlque can last for months normally. After that just use the jeweler cloths to keep them looking nice. The rings look about the same in all sizes anymore. The Swedish wrap has allowed them to come out that way.

    Great tutorial...Would you every use a sealant after you've polished it???? Also, how could I patina a clad coin? Thanks....

    • @CoinRingsfromTheMint
      @CoinRingsfromTheMint  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      +papajoe529 i wouldn't uses sealant because when it chips off, it will look terrible. I just leave the non silver coins black from annealing for the patina.

    at home we use bicarbonate on aluminum foil and place whatever silver and jewelry we want to clean and pour boiling water to cover. a minute later its all clean and almost polished. try it out and see what you think. :)

    Will the sparex dry acid stuff work on regular clad quarters?

    Tarn X works great too.

  • @fitnesslibrarian9013
    @fitnesslibrarian9013 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    Can we do this with any quarter or does it have to be a silver one? I know the newer year ones are mostly copper and nickel, same techniques apply?

  • @titmusspaultpaul5
    @titmusspaultpaul5 9 ปีที่แล้ว

    Very nice... what could you do with an Aussie 50c coint? Its large and is a decagon. Might be interesting. And the Aussie $1 coint is gold and may look nice.

    • @titmusspaultpaul5
      @titmusspaultpaul5 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Actually the 50c coin may be a do decagon.... interesting if it can be worked into a ring though.

    • @CoinRingsfromTheMint
      @CoinRingsfromTheMint  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      I have done those before. They turn out really nice! I don't do the $1 gold coins because they mix aluminum with them and they melt easily. Thanks! Skyler

    • @CoinRingsfromTheMint
      @CoinRingsfromTheMint  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      It would be best to get sized at a jewelry store or even a Walmart. If you wanted an 1800s one, be sure to message me about it as you order.
      Thanks!

    Hey friend just thought of something, I am a gunsmith and i do alot of reblueing to alot of weapons, Do you think the blueing I use on the weapons will work on a silver coin? I guess i can try it on a old junk coin and let everyone know if it work's? If it doe's i will try to do a lil vid so all can see it. Thx Michael and sry to bother you with stupid ?'s

    • @CoinRingsfromTheMint
      @CoinRingsfromTheMint  10 ปีที่แล้ว

      No worries at all. That is a great idea. It doesn't work on silver but I did use it with non silver for a while. I am no gunsmith but I do refinish and fix my guns from time to time :)

    can you reuse the solution of sparex and the liver of sulfur?

    • @CoinRingsfromTheMint
      @CoinRingsfromTheMint  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes I reuse the Sparex over and over. The liver of sulphur I only use once. Jason Works reuses his by heating the coin and dropping it in the liver of sulphur. That is also an option.

      I use the Harbor Fright punch & die set and slip a thin sheet metal template with a
      " V " cut to position the coin. It will knock out 10 coins in under 10 min. I just don't have a strecher like your's. Do you think a Rathburn style for under $20 will work untill i can afford a good one ?

      That is a good idea to harden the handle first! I am going to have to try that next time I buy one (which I hope isn't soon lol). I have heard that those Rayburn stretchers are great for a door stop :)

    Hello I was wondering were you would buy the liver and the acid? Doe's hobby lobby carry these item's? Thx so much and I watch your vid's alot and I rely on your info on how to make my rings> I started just a week ago and broke a few non-silver coins and today I will be useing silver. Thx so much for all you info, it has helped me come alot farther. I watch several ppl I didn't want the other's to think I didn't watch there's. So thx to all that have and still make vids.Michael

      I get my liver of sulphur at a craft store, so hobby lobby might have it. There isn't one near me though. If not, you can get it on Amazon. A one ounce container goes a long way. Thanks and good luck with the silver. I was nervous when I did my first silver coin.

    • @Alftar

      For pickling You can just use sulphuric acid, which you can buy at a hardware store sold as drain cleaner. Also dry acid sodium bisulphate . You can get that at a pool store. For patina you can also use lime sulphur concentrate . Find this in the garden centre . These are way cheaper and work exactly the same .

    I finding difficulties polishing my copper nickel coin rings with the sparex. Do you have any tips or suggestions?

    • @CoinRingsfromTheMint
      @CoinRingsfromTheMint  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Ryan Ramirez There is something called nickel pickle that works much better for the clad. I just polish them up with steel wool or a nail sanding block. That is the easiest solution.
