As someone who sells both trimmers and metal blades for them and is required by the manufacturer to give customers safety breifings when they buy them, here are all the safety issues i see: 1) open toed shoes. With string, open toed shoes leave you vulnerable to severe laserations. With a saw blade, itll be more like amputation. Wear shoes, or steel toed boots or chaps if you have them. 2) wrong trimmer for that blade. To use saw blade type attachments, your trimmer should have a "bycicle" style handle or equivalent widened grip. This is to provide improved control of the blade. Without it, if the blade kicks back itll be impossible to control. Hell, it could even snap the handle off or break your hand. Without such a handle, most straight saft trimmers can use a "grass knife" attachment, which is similar to a saw blade but with fewer, wider teeth. With a good trimmer theyll do small woody brush with some dificulty. 3) no harness. Almost all string trimmers come with a sling. This serves 3 purposes, A) reducing fatige, B) extra point of contact to improve your control of the tool, and C) when kickback occurs, a sling will help control the tool and cause it to swing wide around you rather than straight back into you 4) wrong guard: most companies (including stihl, which this trimmer is) manufacture dedicated guards for use with blades. The guard with rhe string is just plastic, because thats enough to protect you. A blade that picks up a rock can impart enough energy to put it through the standard guard. Thus, guards for use with metal blades are reinforced with either metal or stronger, thicker plastics. Please be safe out there yall

I will never again use a blade on a weed eater .I hit a piece of fence the kick back cause the blade to hit my boot took off a chunk of leather about 3 x 2 inch then made A 2 inch cut half way up the top of my boot lucky for me my boots had steel toes and the slice on the upper boot only nicked my leg don't do DONT DO IT😮

He walked into a dollar general which he was doing lawn care for and passed out on the floor. His shin bone was sitting on top of itself cut in half
If the blade is screwed (connected) correctly -left screw thread is used for a reason... Than there is no way that the blade could disconnected from the rotor and hit someone. We are using blades for taller grass for years, never ever I've heard anything like that. The issues with blades are rocks, glass any other objects.

Please be careful. Worked with a guy that did this to clean up his farm. He hit a piece of hidden metal and the blade bounced back into his foot. It almost cut his foot in half, I honestly don’t know how he kept his foot. For months he’s had to wear a boot with a split in it to keep it aired out and keep ointment daily with pain meds
Used to be a stihl dealer. They make specific blade attachments in star or triangle shapes. I.e. 3 or 4 bladed specifically for cutting thick dense brush. Aka brush cutter attachment. Never seen a saw blade one!
Did this years ago, probably the stupidity in me but it worked like a charm.... until you hit something like your metal fence,a rock, concrete,dirt and your own foot.
