    Very informative. A question , how long can we leave a unit in hot circulation in initial startup or during normal restart? Would leaving it for a week cause issue apart from energy ?

      amine can be in hot circulation as long as you want it to be! As long as no oxygen is getting to it, it just goes around and around. And yes, it would be considered a waste of energy, but for only a few days its easier than shutting everything down

    I believe I'm seeing far above normal amine contamination in my non odorized butanes over the past yr here in the usa. Any thoughts as to what changed to cause this?

    Talking about degradation products, I was under the impression that MDEA actually does degrade into DEA and MMEA as a result of SO2 (perhaps a more specialized case but still worth mentioning). These are two CO2 reactive amines so if your goal is CO2 rejection (TGU and AGE) then you're in for a ride if you have a severe enough SO2 breakthrough.

      Absolutely correct Simon, oxygen and elemental sulphur both "degrade" MDEA (although using that term is debatable amongst chemistry types), or cleave molecules off the MDEA structure to convert to MMEA and DEA. When this happens in TGTU systems it causes the amine to now pick up much more CO2 than normal. Its not a good situation to be in!

    "MDEA system cleaning/Acid Cleaning", is it fundamental? Is it advisable and why?

      Abdusalam, cleaning is necessary when planning on vessel entry when pyrophoric iron sulphides are suspected. Cleaning is also necessary if the system becomes fouled and creates maldistribution or blockage of flows. There are may types of cleaning chemicals available. The choice as to which to use depends on what material is being cleaned.

    Is the cleaning of amine units during shut-down/start-up common practice and should be done
    by using Ucarklean for instance?

      I have never heard of Ucarklean but yes cleaning of amine units during start up/shut down is very common.

    ‏Why Amine concentration is not 100% in BAGRU, ARU & TGTU?

      Yousif, no amine is ever used at 100%. The water portion is necessary to provide several things: viscosity control, absorption capability of the acids into the liquid, and steam in the regenerator. In a TGTU and ARU we need a minimum 50% water for the amine to work properly.
