I would say you need a carb rebuild for sure as it sure seemed to be backfiring and missing when you were first starting it up and then running it at a fast idle. I would be making sure your firing order is good, the points and plugs are good and set properly, your distributor cap is good and timing is correct. You shouldn't have to pump Mopars to start them up unless the engine is cold or it is super cold outside. You can't pump a bunch of gas into them like Chevies or it will flood them. Good luck.
