Six Flags New England originally opened in 1870 as Gallup's Grove but later re-named to Riverside Park in the early 1900's. It wasn't until the late 1990's that Riverside Park was purchased by Premier Parks and became a Six Flags.

I can’t believe Tresh went on those scary rides! It’s been decades since I’ve been to our Six Flags Magic Mountain because the rides are too death-defying!!

1. Gallup's Grove (1870-1886) Riverside Grove (1887-1911) Riverside Amusement Park (1912-1999)
2. There are 2 entrances to go down the stairs to Superman. One is over by thunderbolt and it's DC Universe.
3. Adults CAN go on the great escape coaster

I grew up about a half hour away. When I was a kid it was still Riverside Park. I would go many times a year for over a decade. It was a great Park. It's biggest ride was the wooden coaster cyclone. And it had a coaster that was just a single loop called the black widow. You would go forward and backwards through the loop multiple times during the ride. They also had an outdoor concert area that would have some pretty been names during the summer. I saw Joan Jett play there when I was like 6. Great memories.

Wow! This is my home park and I have been making frequent visits for years and have become really fascinated by a lot of the things involved with the park. I think it’s really cool that you chose to pick this park out of all parks! The research was thorough and it ended up really showing. I learned a lot of things that I had never known before the start of the video. Really great job!

Heres a fun fact, Theres an apartment complex behind the park on the left side. If you went by the river you could literally just walk right in fright fest and straight into the park. Blocked off now but dang was it fun sneaking in. Never caught too!
Amazing how everything can change from year to year. I haven't been to six flags NE since 2014 and I remember riding the skyway ride. Cant believe they took it out. It's only been 5 years

Been going to this park since riverside, you brought back many memories, now my home park is magic mountain
That Batman stunt show was so good, you could feel the heat from the pyrotechnics in your face
12:10-12:13 You can see me operating the Mind Scrambler. I worked at the park last year from July to October and had no idea you passed by the ride. Hint: You can tell it was me by noticing the large green water bottle to the right of where the ride operator normally stands. That green water bottle was the one I used to stay hydrated while working at the park. Thank you for the brief cameo and hope to meet up with you in the future.

@@BenLaurence I'm actually not working there this year. Since I graduated college, I'm on the hunt for a full-time job. So, another year at Six Flags is unlikely. However, I will say it was the greatest summer job I ever had.
Well worth the wait! Awesome job and there is no indication at all that you had audio issues now. Ahhhh i remember good 'ol Riverside Park! Last time i visited it as Six Flags was quite a few years ago with my niece...perhaps we were there at the same time! Per usual I love the research you do and the splicing in of old and new location photos, etc. Interesting fact about the missing Dark Knight Coaster! As always i love the bloopers at the end! Great job!
Lisa Post thank you!!! I tried covering up the issues the best I could. Riverside Park seemed 10x cooler than current day six flags. Hey maybe we could have been there at the same time! Thanks, my favorite part of doing the videos is the research and getting old photos. I love incorporating the old pictures now. I’ve always been fascinated by “things that use to be” or “things that never were” so researching the dark knight coaster was a lotta fun! Lol thanks Lisa!

Where is super girl,cyborg,wicked cyclone, and sky screamer. These are some main attractions and some of my favorite rides. And I think they had to be included if you were covering everything

The rides that down around 4:00 is called The Crime Wave. My dad and my brother are actually the reason they had to repair it 😂

Honestly as someone whos home park is new england i think you did a pretty good job there was alot of basic things you said and idk if your just not from new england and dont know but there are more things you could have said and included but it was pretty good over all

Actually at one point in time the carousel currently located at King's Dominion in virginia was located at SFNE when it debuted in 1917.

9:58 Thunderbolt is probably the best old school, classic wooden coaster in the country. So many wooden coasters from its time are either torn down, incredibly rough and bumpy, or have been converted to hybrid coasters. I've never been on a smoother wooden coaster than Thunderbolt.

There was so much in your video that I didn't get to see when I went over there (of course with it being a field trip and having to stay in a group and all of that). Maybe someday I will revisit the park and find a ride I would be more comfortable going on.

I love the bits on the history of the park. Especially since I think I did hit it up one day in the mid '90s when it was still Riverside. Park. Though I can't remember much of that time. And it's neat seeing how a couple years later, now that the Hall of Justice contains a spinny ride that the signs for the villains got moved to new locations by the Batman coasters.
Six Flags NE also has a halloween event, and at that time I've seen them dig out some much older park decorations that I think predate the Six Flags stuff. Old plasticine roos and such as part of a halloween circus themed space.
This was such a good video you did a really good job on fixing the audio I'll have to go back to Six Flags next summer now that I know all the history behind it

Where the whole superman area is now used to be the old riverside race track. Also near the kiddie area is a whole other picnic area where they do the fright fest for Halloween
Yeah I was going to include something about the race track but could figure out what to add. Like the kiddie area as in the loony tunes part or the other kiddie area?
The looney toon part and over by the giant swing used to be the water park when it was Riverside. Alot of the building still stand from riverside as you said but Six flags changed almost the whole layout of the park

I am a season pass holder for SFNE and my favorite ride there is the Superman roller coaster. Btw when my brothers and I were really young, there was a Thomas the Tank Engine themed area right by the main entrance, along with the Wiggles-themed area and Looney Tunes Movie Town, and (get ready for this) my brother Patrick, who was 3 at the time, vomited on one of the rides in the Thomas themed land. It was during their JDRF walk which we went to because of my uncle with diabetes. I wasn’t alive when Six Flags New England was known as Riverside Park, but my mom was, and she said it was a dump back then.
Never understood why they got rid of the skyline. That was a fun way to get some smooches with the ladies.

Just watch this and I remember going to the races to see my uncle’s race and my dad and then my aunt would take me on all of the rides during the half hour of racing intermission such fun kid memories
Nice park, I haven't been to a six flags park but people seem to slate them a lot online but that looks decent but a dark ride would be a great addition.
Used to love going to Warner Bros store in my local mall back in the 90s so it's good to see a park using a few of the characters. Abu Dhabi has a Warner Bros park which has just opened, I guess in the US it's just liceneced to Six Flags who don't look to have done justice to such legendary characters.

I grew up with this park in the 90s when it was still riverside and worked there as a teenager, and this really hurt to watch. I haven’t been in years and now I remember why: There is no money in SFNE. Rather than invest in building new quality attractions, they just paint over and rebrand literally decades old buildings into gift shops and billboards. At this point, it’s just a shell. To the mgmt: Either give a damn about your property or sell it. Don’t let it corrode away for those of us who remember how great it was.

Never been here but it is now on my list of theme parks to visit! Love the superman statue (being that I have a superman tattoo) lol. Such a shame that they haven’t replaced the batman show/the area that was supposed to be the dark night ride. But it looks like they have so many other cool rides and stuff to do. Yeah I looked up a video of the dark knight ride and it actually looked pretty cool. They have a lotta rides at this place. They used to have a Racetrack in the spot where superman is.
As I just went on Saturday I did notice the sky way posts still standing(I’ve also rode it years back) I just noticed now the log ride is gone for Goliath (haven’t been since 2015ishh) the Houdin/tomahawk section is closed for good. My guess is tear down for something new. I was bummed cause houdini was my favorite still ride! There’s other attractions still lingering in the concrete that I remember but still a good park
I think Houdini is becoming as Seasonal ride (for Fright Fest) and for Tomahawk isnt closed for good, i gotten rode it in like two-three years ago!

I'm glad to learn something about my home six flags park, this park is constantly changing. If you may or may not know, the parks 150th birthday is coming up in 2020. This means we could get a new coaster. It would probably go where Goliath or flashback goes. Personally, I think we could get either a launched coaster. Either a launched coaster like Fire Chaser Express at Dollywood, or possibly, a West Coast Racer clone. The other possibility is an RMC Raptor like Wonder Woman Golden Lasso at Fiesta Texas. I doubt it since we already have an RMC in Wicked Cyclone, but we all know Six Flags buys in bulk so anything is possible.

We are getting a thrill dark ride themed to Cyborg next year, I think it's going where the Gotham City Crime Wave was.
This is my home park, but honestly I’m not that disappointed at losing the Dark Knight Coaster. I rode the same ride at Six Flags Great Adventure in New Jersey and it was pretty lame, just a wild mouse in the dark.
Good Video.. I knew Most of it as im a Six Flags New England Regular... BUT did you know where The Blizzard River Raft Ride is now, used to be a much smaller version of the Waterpark before Hurricane Harbor came along AND where Hurricane Harbor is now used to be Riverside Speedway where they have Races at and Fireworks almost every weekend.. Just a FYI
The last time I went there my party and I got some drinks. I paid like 15 dollars for three small cups. The soda machine was self serve and outside. Covered and I mean COVERED in wasps, so I filled mine only to see my girl friend and my little brother with empty cups. They were afraid of the wasps. So I went to full theirs up as well and was yelled at by the cashier for trying to get refills. So many problems with all of it, that it basically ruined the whole day.
Shouldn't be that expensive. Shouldn't be left outside if the wasps aren't going to be taken care of. And it shouldn't be self serve if you don't want to give free refills.
I think there is a copy of the Batman ride at a Spain themed park out here in Japan

How did you not mention the speedway Riverside used to have a race track a 3/8 mile figure eight oval right behind the Thunderbowl it was one of the best parts about Riverside my dad worked there for 20 years for the carols

Usually the Hall of Justice has Batman, Flash, and Wonder Woman in there. But you probably went in during their break. Sadly Hall of Justice is closing next year
BrickHero Studios yeah I must have just missed them! I thought it was gonna be a whole bunch of hero’s not just one lol. That sucks the hall of justice is one of the best themed parts at six flags. I’m sure they’ll replace it with another generic coaster or spin ride 🙄
Ben Laurence It’s gonna be an indoor spin ride called Cyborg Super Spin. I think it’s going to be themed to STAR Labs. Hopefully the exterior and queue is well detailed, and if they really go all out maybe a Cyborg animatronic from the Justice League rides

Tried to watch and he had two major bits of trivia wrong in the first 30 seconds. The carousel hasn’t been there since 1909. It arrived at the park in the 1940’s in a trade for a bunch of roller skates. Secondly, the park became Six Flags in 2000, not 1998.
Oh sorry it was just so dreadful to get through those first 30 seconds. He does a lot of research but sometimes he words things differently. The carousel was built in 1909. Secondly, Premier Parks acquired Six Flags in 98 and Riverside just didn’t change the name right away
Concur re: Carousel date (not the purchase with skates - never heard that). It was originally carved in 1909 by the M.C. Ilions & Sons carousel company. Can't recall where they got it from.
“Words things differently”? The rebranding to Six Flags was a major deal, the culmination of three years of major investments to get it to that point.
@@michaelfouquette5161 carousel for roller skates story was one that was told at park orientations, both ones I attended and later conducted.
@@dss174 I could easily have forgotten that fact. When were you there? I helped write orientations for Operations/Rides in the late 80's - we didn't have park-wide orientations then, each dept ran their own, as I recall.
What about the picnic groove? Also where all the Superman stuff is use to be a speedway.

They redid the bathrooms for 2017, moved the Speed Trap, and it only takes up some of the land of the old stage.

My parents days were filled with amusement parks Paragon Park was in Hull revere had an amusement park and i remember reading correctly years ago there was another amusement park that was replaced by a parking lot its were the dog racing places sits abandon to this day half demolished my parents did say that we have to Kings Castle in Witman MA i was wondering if u were around for Paragon Park or when revere had one my long term memory is great short term No 😆

I don’t think they’re opening this year due to corona virus and if they do it will be late into this year.
