The machine out of the box works great, take the time to see all of the videos. They will give you a good idea that it sure beats a shovel and it's fun to use.
It comes with 2.7 Deli pump and a 9 hp engine go with a 4.0 or better max at 4.5 depending on the brand there is no standard. The shaft size 1/2 in. and length is 1 1/2 or better will work and 1/8 keyway. The Salami Pompa mod# 614470242 is a good match at 4.1 watch all the videos to help getting tips and tricks. Good luck and its a great little machine.
The information that is listed in the comment section here has a complete pump describing of the pump. Just search the part number, I found a hydraulic pump supplier in Michigan sorry don’t remember there name. But with the part number you should find something.
You may want to add the pump info and adapter info to the vid description for easier reference and searches. Thanks for the vid it can help a lot of people.
I found your TH-cam so I upgraded my pump. Works great. Pump Salami Hydraulic Gear Pump 1.6PB4.1D-R080S0 Model # 6142?5002 ( ? looks like 3 or 8 ) I just installed the one above on my backhoe / trencher The "D" is cw (clockwise) when ordering pump. OR 1.6PE4.1D-R080S0 Model # 614470242 (Both pumps are the same) Adapter 6MB-6FP Adapter 8MB-8FP Thread Sealant with PTFE Permatex 4 ounce #80632
Nice upgrade! From what I understand , speed and the inability to use two functions at once was the biggest complaint. Pump volume has everything to do with the speed and performance of the machine. Joystick controls would make it even faster and less robotic. Nice job!
I measured 16 mm on the adapter when I went to the hydraulic hose place they had them in stock. I remember they were more then the standard conectors. I looked at one of my receipts and it just stated metric conector.
Get the manual and check for hose placement. You can check the pump by removing the pump output hose from the valve body and place it in the oil tank. Then start the engine and check for oil flow from the output hose.
I can't tell any difference in mine which is new and that one. Mine is a bit faster. Maybe they upgraded somehow. My cylinder is a bit smaller in diameter but even with weights mine still lifts off of the ground when it rips.
Sorry should have completed the description it’s red and blue tread lock. The detail information is in the text portion of the video. The model number of the pumps are generic and completely describes all aspects of the type pump ( displacement and mounting pattern). Good source of information can be a local hydraulic shop. At first it may be a little overwhelming but as you dig into it , it will make sense.
I like your backhoe and would like to make a fully electric one for my electric garden tractor, and it could be charged by solar, zero pollution Brian Edmond 2hrs cutting approx 2 acres or 8-10 hrs pulling trailer on a charge Converting to battery power is a great idea for a garden tractor I converted one 15yrs ago, I used the 3 separate motor design and it is still cutting grass on a daily basis, it is amazing how it never breaks down and needs almost no maintenance, I renew the batteries every 7 yrs I am just on my 3rd set now, my design will cut up to 2 acres on a 50cent charge there are no belts or pulleys and no oil on the entire tractor, it can pull a trailer for about 8hrs on a charge, because battery run time is the most important aspect of most conversions I paid particular attention to the most efficient design, I used 3 separate small motors one for the drive with electronic speed control and two smaller with a cutter blade mounted on the shaft of each cutter motor ,total amperage when cutting grass is approx 40amps, (2000watts) this design only uses the battery power req to do the job, very little wasted battery power, it uses magnetic breaking of both tractor and cutter blades and automatically applies parking brake when you stop or get off the seat, an amazing tractor. electrictractor.net Location of video#1 on youtube th-cam.com/video/XYNISgmAhcM/w-d-xo.html
I have upgraded the pump with the salami pump as you suggested but i have had an issue with the pressure releif valve and i am wondering if someone can tell me who makes that pressure control valve or even the entire hydraulic spool valve or hydraulic control box... Awesome video's i appreciate you sharing Thanks Dave
David Carpenter Wonder what kind of problem are you having. The pressure regulator is very bulletproof. The one problem you may have is a volume bottle neck with your increased fluid flow volume . There is a video that addresses that problem. I have well over 600 hrs. On the machine without any issues.
Before I bought the machine someone had broke the adjuster off I believe by trying to turn up the pressure and now I have the new pump I would like to fix this as well
David Carpenter If you have a hydraulic shop in your area take it to them, maybe they can repair. They maybe able to direct you to a source if need be.
Sorry pump was obtained local. Read below all pump information is there then search web for a retailer. There are many videos with this subject and read the comments it's all there.
Just ordered mine, states it comes with the 9hp predator engine, but would love to upgrade this to something larger. I see that you have upgraded the hydraulic pump, do I need to upgrade any of the lines adapters etc, to get these better performance rates. I know little about hydraulics but I am mechanically inclined around the garage. Im just not sure on the pressure, flow rates pressure tolerances etc in dealing with this stuff. The engine upgrade to something larger would it be worth it, also is there a stater on this to run lights..
steve smith The way the machine comes with the set hydraulic pressure is pretty much what the machine can handle safely. But with the lines mine came with 1/4” and a small volume pump mine needed a little speed up. I’m running a Diesel now and I run it slow but with a hi volume pump it took some expeiinient
Sorry dropped my Pad and post my last message before it was completed. I had tried several combinations and settled on the one I’m using now. It’s a blend of hydraulic speed and low engine RPM. The engine handles it just fine. Good tip keep the machine well greased and I mean well greased. I would also change the hydraulic fluid filter after 20 hrs.to remove the crud in the hydraulic tank, it had a lot of weld material from tank construction.
Very informational, considering a purchase & upgrade as you have done. You strike me as a fellow how has many hours on equipment. I have also seen some of the weak points as you have identified. Do you think a guy could put 1,500 hours on one of these machines? Looking to keep it very busy & do that in 5 months, then buy a new machine every season. Digging gravel bars from a creek, down to 6ft, with a smooth edge bucket volume @ about 0.11 cubic yds. Look forward to your thoughts & comments. Regards,
Thanks for your kind words. The intent of this machine is for the purpose of trenching not loading. The problem is the lift height and the swing distance plus the overall speed. With myself being retired work load and speed isn't a factor. With my small jobs and small profits I make a little money and have some fun doing it.
i would like to attempt building one of these. Would you mind sharing 1.) what size pump you upgraded to? 2.) what size hydraulic cylinders (bore and travel lengths) I will need? Also if something needs beefed up or modified ( in your opinion) to improve the overall performance. I would greatly appreciate any suggestions and feedback you can offer me. I'm good with welding and fabricating and really think I could make one of these. Thanks
+David F the information on the pump is in the text section of this video. The building of a trencher would be quite challenging and plans are out there to help with the build. However if you read the text here from other builders they have stated that it cost way more to build then they expected. So do your research before you invest a lot of time into a build.
Sorry I had a problem with the device I started my reply with. You will get most of the information from the other videos in that series. I also recommend that you read the text about 90% of all the information can be found there. After that is you have other specific questions please feel free to ask.
The only information I have is the information that is in the messages under that video header. I thought that it would be a labor intensive task and it turned out pretty easy.
I got the "Salami Hydraulics Aluminum Gear Pump 1.6PE4.1D-R080S0 - mod# 614470242" at Mason Dynamics, Inc. This was the only place online where I could find anything about this pump...$220.04 tax and shipping. I don't think these people actually stock anything. You order from them and then they order it from a supplier somewhere else. When they get it, they'll ship it to you. They said they'll send me an email when it ships. I ordered on 2/25/2019 and it's now end of day 2/28/2019 and I've heard nothing, so I don't think they've received it from their supplier yet. I probably won't get it until sometime during the week 3-11-2019 and 3-15-2019, but who knows.
Got the pump, but I'm dead in the water because...well, it's crazy. The backhoe uses metric and local hydraulic shops only use SAE. The Salami pump is made in Italy and they use UNF, which I think may be the same as SAE, but I'm not sure, but the output fitting size on this pump is 9/16". Why in the world...what's wrong with 1/2" or 5/8"? Try to get a hose locally with a straight female DIN 16mm 1.5 thread fitting on one end and a 90 degree female DIN 9/16" fitting on the other end isn't going to happen. So you have to get a 9/16" fitting for the pump and then a 9/16" to something else adapter to fit a hose fitting. Go online to buy a hose and there are dozens or hundreds of different types of hose fittings and try to determine what you need using their language and codes. Prepare to spend a ton of time online trying to chase down parts and even then you'll have to "shade tree engineer" something and hope it doesn't break and shower you with scorching hot hydraulic fluid. I can read the tea leaves, so I'm probably going to shelf the Salami pump, take the engine off the backhoe, take it to hydraulic shop somewhere and let them install a pump, mount, coupler connector and install the fittings. Eventually I'm going to have a traditional backhoe valve body installed and have all the hoses and cylinders replaced with all SAE stuff. I'll have a small fortune invested in this backhoe when I'm done, but it'll still be less than what a real backhoe or tractor/backhoe would cost.
When I refitted the pump I took the old hose that went to the control valve to a hydraulic shop they match the hose fitting adapter to the pump. Then the same to the low pressure side of the pump and hose. I was in and out in no time. The whole job was under 1 hr to complete. I believe they called it BST thread British Straight thread, not for sure but something like that. Hope this helps.
The function of a pump is to take fluid from one location and move it to another. This is called flow rate. Pressure is the resistance of this flow by the working mechanism, cylinders in this case. So a higher volume pump will complete the work quicker while maintaining pressure. He said in a comment that the original pump is 2.7 GMP and in the video he said he increased this with the new pump by 40% so he is now running a 3.78 GMP (Gallons Per Minute) so he is able to do the same work as before just 40% faster. Hope this helps.
Great job on your upgrades there. I built my own hoe from a set of online plans and it looked slow on all the videos I watch, so I went with a large volume pump. It digs like a small excavator. Also you need to build you a thumb to go on that machine, it come in real handy.
Thanks for the complement, I remember the first off site trench I dug it was about 40 ft. And it took forever. One of the plumbers said " it still beat using a shovel and better yet I'm not doing it."
Hi I was wandering i just purchased a 9hp tow behind excavator I noticed you put a better pump on would that work for my 9hp one and what pump did you use so I could change mine out thank you
Pump I used on the 9 hp. Pompa # 614470242 I remember the suppler was In Michigan that’s all the info in my notes. The cost was around $95.00 but you must remember that was for my pump seven years not sure what there using now. The original was a Delia 2.7 good luck.
If you complete the upgrade with the information please post the update here for future inquiries to update the pump info. Good luck hope it works out for you. FYI the Pompo pump was built much better the the original Deli pump that came with trencher.
Joe Not sure, maybe you could call Harbor Freight and question them. They did change the color to red and it appears the manual is the same as the one I have.
+Eero Laukkanen Read the text under the video your questions will all be answered and more. Also view all the videos for even more information to improve speed.
Richard Williams All the question you asked are addressed in the series on improving the trencher speed. The pump information can be found in the text portion of the videos. I am an owner and user of the trencher that I've been working on. In fact I just spent 4 hours on it today digging a drainage ditch at a job site today. There are two things I'm happy with on this 90 degree sunny day, I installed a sun shade and the machine runs faster so I got home faster.
OLEG BRAT Sorry I can’t tell because they use what ever they have available when they put them together. I had most all hoses custom made some where metic and British pipe thread so best to remove them and head to your local hydraulic shop. The shop I used had all but one 90 degree on the pump in stock and that came in the next day.
could you tell me what size pump you got. I just bought a used one and its awesome but a little slow and your videos show how much better you can make these.
Not knowing what model number your speaking about, I’m guessing Harbor Freight changes lot number when they change vendors. Most of the time it only subtle differences.
i bought this trencher the hydralic there is slight delay on the up and down mostly just down few second delay in response do i need to bleed it ? is tips ?
I would check oil level and remove the spin on filter for metal particles from assembly. This is a open loop system and bleeding isn’t necessary. Then see if your engine is running fast enough. Remember the pump is very small with little volume. They do this because of safety, because of the group that will be operating them . I have put several hundred hours on my machine and it still looks like new and runs like that to best advise is keep it well greased and oil changed.
Hi I have the standerd machine and it keeps bending the hurdeic cinder rod that comes out on the middle hurdeic cinder the compine has no answer for me do you know why it is dooing this is it bad cinders or to much pressher going to the cinder.?
I believe your pressure is to high you need to obtaine a pressure gauge and see what your max pressure is running. The relief valve should pop at 2500 lbs or around there. I have heard of several people having that problem if that's the case a simple adjustment is all that's necessary. But remember this should be done by a hydraulic shop.
They have sold these for over 10 yrs. I have put several hundred hours on mine. I keep it out of the weather and greased well. It sure beats a shovel anytime, can get into tight places and very little collateral damage.
my machine will not move at all i got it second hand and it has never been used new pump new controls from harbor frieght they put aw32 oil in it what can i do to make it work
AW-32 is the right oil fill it up, no worries on bleeding it’s a bypass system. Go on Harbor Freight’s site and print out the manual start reading about the machine.
It starts to move and then stops and none of the hyd work at all what else could be done.tride to bleed they system like the book said ran a tank of fuel out still no working.
Check hydraulic oil level, and if that’s not it then most likely it the pump. This is a very simple system. The pump may have run dry and ran before you purchase it.
Funny that the pump mfg name is "Salami" ...what was the original crappy one? Bologna ? New song to the tune of Oscar Meyer my bolgna has a name? "my 'hoe's pump has a first name it's la tee da tee die and my 'hoe pump has a last nameit S-A-L-A-M I" what ?? Whatcha mean "NO!" ??? lol
If you meant 3.5 gpm its still a better out put than what it comes with I have the trencher and it can be a little slow especially when your using the claw
Hope this replay get to you it came in the form of a flash message. Yes the DR buckets and tooth will work with some mods see my Video on how to modify DR buckets on my channel.
Really basic question here.. If I were attempting to build a basement, and I moved this to 4 spots, how large of a square would I be able to excavate to 4 feet? Or 8 feet? I could buy something bigger and sell it, but I'd rather take the time, do this myself, and keep a trencher handy for future projects. I just can't figure out what size hole this will make before I need a ramp system to haul dirt out..
P Huster This machine is a trencher so your limited in reach and dumping heights. Read the specifications in the manual for the most current information. I use my tractor loader to increase the capabilities of the trencher.
Here is the information on the pump deli hyd CB1D-F27NA second number 1A316639 send your email I will send you pictures. With this being Chinese you never can tell what they use, I also have a little higher volume Salami pompa 1.6 also.
+OceanStateTuning There really for log splinters, there not progressive, and they have an auto detent. They would be hard to have smooth control while digging.
hi i want to buy that machine , but i know realy slow , can u tell me where u buy the pump ? and what the company to buy ? can u give me the website for buy the pump ? and do u have any video for change the pump , i very like ur video , it help me alot , u just change the pump only or change any thing else ? pls give me the item number for pump also ,thanks for help and thanks ur time

It’s about 4 reply’s down about 6 years ago. Gives all the pump information and product numbers.
The upgrades are incredible 👏
Looks like a fantastic mod. Thanks for the info.
You right if you make move to fast. People tear and hurt them self I've ran backhoes all my life and love playing on them little things
Get the manual and check for hose placement. You can check the pump by removing the pump output hose from the valve body and place it in the oil tank. Then start the engine and check for oil flow from the output hose.
He said get the manual😂
Thanks, ive thought of buying one to do multiple functions maybe a small grapple to load wood into a trailer?
I can't tell any difference in mine which is new and that one. Mine is a bit faster. Maybe they upgraded somehow. My cylinder is a bit smaller in diameter but even with weights mine still lifts off of the ground when it rips.
Does harbor freight offer the 13 horse power engine, or only the 9hp? Did you put the 13 hp on yourself?
That for the coupler 20 is ballpark for end play tolerance between the two half’s
Sorry should have completed the description it’s red and blue tread lock. The detail information is in the text portion of the video. I like your backhoe and would like to make a fully electric one for my electric garden tractor, and it could be charged by solar, zero pollution

2hrs cutting approx 2 acres or 8-10 hrs pulling trailer on a charge
Converting to battery power is a great idea for a garden tractor I converted one 15yrs ago, I used the 3 separate motor design and it is still cutting grass on a daily basis, it is amazing how it never breaks down and needs almost no maintenance, I renew the batteries every 7 yrs I am just on my 3rd set now, my design will cut up to 2 acres on a 50cent charge there are no belts or pulleys and no oil on the entire tractor, it can pull a trailer for about 8hrs on a charge, because battery run time is the most important aspect of most conversions I paid particular attention to the most efficient design, I used 3 separate small motors one for the drive with electronic speed control and two smaller with a cutter blade mounted on the shaft of each cutter motor ,total amperage when cutting grass is approx 40amps, (2000watts) this design only uses the battery power req to do the job, very little wasted battery power, it uses magnetic breaking of both tractor and cutter blades and automatically applies parking brake when you stop or get off the seat, an amazing tractor. electrictractor.net

First rule of safety never allow anyone to be within the reach of the swing of the backhoe.
always a pleasure watching your videos what kind of hydraulic oil are you using
Read below all the information is there, pumps can be ordered through any hydraulic supply.
how is the longevity on that trencher its been about a year hows it working?
You need to do a jackhammer modification next!
Here did you find your pump at
You mentioned a key way and 20 thousands. Forgive me for being ignorant but would you elaborate.
Thank you
Nice update!
Thanks for the video!!! At 6:36 what do you mean by don't forget to use red and blue?

Thank man!!!
wonder if the cheap china cylinders and seals can handle the extra pressure. i think u will be repacking cylinders after a while of using it

He said in a comment that the original pump is 2.7 GMP and in the video he said he increased this with the new pump by 40% so he is now running a 3.78 GMP (Gallons Per Minute) so he is able to do the same work as before just 40% faster. Hope this helps.
Because volume and psi is two different things! You can increase one but the other will drop
I’m sure they have made changes over the years.
on the pump u did not say were what store.. to buy the pump
Can you please share cylinder pump and motor specifications
SATHISHKUMAR S if you haven’t watched the other
@@goneredcar1 actually i don't have basic idea about hydraulic but i want build this type of machine so please... my mail sathishsmsk@gmail.com
@@goneredcar1 thank you I really appreciate it
If you complete the upgrade with the information please post the update here for future inquiries to update the pump info. Good luck hope it works out for you. FYI the Pompo pump was built much better the the original Deli pump that came with trencher.
Are the ones being sold today the same model as the one you have shown in your videos?
Joe Not sure, maybe you could call Harbor Freight and question them. They did change the color to red and it appears the manual is the same as the one I have.
How much was the pump?? What is the brand name?? Wonder where could I buy it here in Florida??
+Eero Laukkanen Read the text under the video your questions will all be answered and more. Also view all the videos for even more information to improve speed.
what is the end result as far as gpm , max psi and brand of pump . Are you a Harbor Freight tech or an owner wanting improved performance
Dean Cummins auction
Richard Williams All the question you asked are addressed in the series on improving the trencher speed. The pump information can be found in the text portion of the videos. I am an owner and user of the trencher that I've been working on. In fact I just spent 4 hours on it today digging a drainage ditch at a job site today. There are two things I'm happy with on this 90 degree sunny day, I installed a sun shade and the machine runs faster so I got home faster.
where did you get adapters for hydraulic hoses sir ?
OLEG BRAT Sorry I can’t tell because they use what ever they have available when they put them together. I had most all hoses custom made some where metic and British pipe thread so best to remove them and head to your local hydraulic shop. The shop I used had all but one 90 degree on the pump in stock and that came in the next day.
could you tell me what size pump you got. I just bought a used one and its awesome but a little slow and your videos show how much better you can make these.
Good luck and its a great little machine.
goneredcar1 thank you
@@goneredcar1 will work with that standard 9hp engine?
Dave Tiriolo that’s all you need and it will work fine.
What is the difference between this model and the other model I bought?
Not knowing what model number your speaking about, I’m guessing Harbor Freight changes lot number when they change vendors. Most of the time it only subtle differences.
@@goneredcar1 looking again it's just the SKU number and different color. I guess it's the same kind.
From what I have noticed since I received mine I think your right.
The information on the pump is in the text below.
Never found the text below
black metal is between the oil pump and the engine is what; contract is for the pump; reducer is? ¨
Cast iron to give mass to the output side of the engine to dampen the vibrations is my guess.
Can you tell me where you got pump from and a part number? Thanks.
Read the messages in the replies it describes the pump information you asked about. There is several different pumps and engines.
@@goneredcar1 Thank you.
i bought this trencher the hydralic there is slight delay on the up and down mostly just down few second delay in response do i need to bleed it ?
Where did you get the wheel covers?
That’s the way they came.
Didn't know Horrible Freight even sold these.
They have sold these for over 10 yrs. I have put several hundred hours on mine. I keep it out of the weather and greased well. It sure beats a shovel anytime, can get into tight places and very little collateral damage.
sorry. I can buy a trencher speed upgrade. in Mexico?
my machine will not move at all i got it second hand and it has never been used new pump new controls from harbor frieght they put aw32 oil in it what can i do to make it work
AW-32 is the right oil fill it up, no worries on bleeding it’s a bypass system.
@@goneredcar1 replace pump the controls drained and refill the hydraulics blood tried to bleed the cylinders and it still don't work
Then check the pump as described watch for flow rate 3 to 4 gallons per minute.
Do you have a part number for the oil filter? I would like to replace mine but cant find the number. My filter is all yellow with no markings. Thanks
I use a Volkswagen sirocco car filter . PH2870A
how can i get this machine ?
What is the part # for the pump?
Read in the comment section all the pump numbers are in there for the different size engines.
would a 3/8" pressure feed hose work instead of a 5/16"?
Joe Newman The fittings needed had max size of 5/16”
Funny that the pump mfg name is "Salami" ...what was the original crappy one? Bologna ? New song to the tune of Oscar Meyer my bolgna has a name? "my 'hoe's pump has a first name it's la tee da tee die and my 'hoe pump has a last nameit S-A-L-A-M I" what ?? Whatcha mean "NO!" ??? lol
I guess if you think about it the pump is made Italy so maybe call it a Pizza pump.
Will the salami pump work with the 9 hp engine ?
Sure will but stay with the 3.5 max
thanks for all your videos by the way you mean 3.5 gpm ?
If you meant 3.5 gpm its still a better out put than what it comes with I have the trencher and it can be a little slow especially when your using the claw
The 9hp engine will take that 20% increase without any problem.
Hope this replay get to you it came in the form of a flash message. Yes the DR buckets and tooth will work with some mods see my Video on how to modify DR buckets on my channel.
U have old pump
If you mean the original then yes
What u want for it
@@goneredcar1 u want get rid of it
Really basic question here..
Answered my own question.
Here is the information on the pump deli hyd CB1D-F27NA second number 1A316639 send your email I will send you pictures. With this being Chinese you never can tell what they use, I also have a little higher volume Salami pompa 1.6 also.
Has anyone tried a 2 stage pump
+OceanStateTuning There really for log splinters, there not progressive, and they have an auto detent. They would be hard to have smooth control while digging.
what is the displacement of the new pump you installed? cu.in/rev or cc/rev?
+Clinton Hinote The information you request is in the text in the comments section below, the pump turns CCW.
