What a contrast to how I remember Pen Y Ghent. We climbed it on a hot sunny day and all got a bit sunburned. Like you I walked the Pennine Way in shorts. For wind and rain protection we just had lightweight Kagouls that went down to our knees and for warmth we had a jumper and never stopped long enough to get cold. Walking in the blustering rain like you were is really tough and we had that experience at Edale where the wind just about blew you off your feet. Great video to brig back the memories. Thanks.
I'm so glad you overcame the demons of the past by taking it on again. Seems you really beat yourself up over it. However you put that to bed, well done mate amazing 👍
Hi Dean, These videos are a work of art thank you!!! I've been walking and climbing for 40+ years and one of my goals has been to complete the Pennine way. I've done most sections as circulars but in 3 weeks the most special challenge and experience is beginning!!! 3 generations, 3 individuals (and for perspective I'm actually the middle generation!) following in your footsteps... Although we have to "cheat" as I can't get enough time off to do it non-stop.😁😁 I've loved your coverage and respect your determination and tenacity as (usually) been a solo walker can be a challenge in itself! If you get bored and fancy joining 3 of us for a day you'd be a welcome addition to our team 😂 Well done and keep up the great work!!!
Thanks for watching Debbie, I loved my journey along the Pennine Way.. I enjoyed it so much we are currently running it in sections at weekends using public transport 😁
Another great video Dean, shame about the weather. Was only at the summit of Pen-y-Ghent for the Y3P on Tuesday and had a celebratory pint in the Golden Lion afterwards. Cracking little pub, great food. Hope the rain holds off for tomorrow (today as I watch this). ATB.
Thanks for watching Ian. We have to take the rough with the smooth I guess. Today's weather is going to be good. I can see Pen-y-ghent from my hotel room window at the Golden Lion and it looks glorious out there.
Hi Dean. Found your excellent channel at the weekend. Then I clicked on your Pennine Way day one episode not realising it was the day after you’d uploaded it! Amazing to see these every morning knowing that as I sit here I’m watching yesterday’s adventures and you’re already on your way up that long tough ‘first hill of the day’. We actually live not far from Kirk Yetholm so I’ll look out for ya! Take it easy! 👍
Thank you for watching and I'm glad you're enjoying following along. I'm loving editing and uploading in really time ish :-) just about to head out on today's section so will be heading up that first hill of the day shortly :-) my plan is to be in Kirk Yetholm in the evening on Saturday the 21st. All the best, Dean.
Nice one Dean, I've been watching your vids daily. I'm currently stuck indoors with a smashed up ankle. So watching your vids gives us a virtual dose of what I need. Thanks again.
right on time mate ! I was waiting for todays video...thanks a lot ! keep plodding on..it was certainly a wet one for you...just like me when i completed the pennine way in 2013...
Great atmospheric film today and a wonderful area for walking despite the weather. Looking forward to these exciting uploads every morning now. Good hiking and filming. Hope today's hike is going well!
Loving this adventure Dean! Discovered the channel a few months ago and as a fellow Derbyshire native, you’ve got me hooked! Love your mans comment about clothes getting wet and you not! Reminds me of a line I used to use; “kit dries and skin’s waterproof so let’s crack on!” Sticking with you to the end! All the best, Jon
Thank you for the videos! I walked the Pennine Way with a friend this summer and It's been nice seeing the different parts of the walk once again. Put you're best foot forward! Sophie from Geneva
Markham Cove was a huge waterfall at the end of the last ice age, and water has only flowed over the top once in living memory, which was on December 6, 2015. The stream that emerges from the base of the Cove, does not come from Markham Tarn, but from a sink near the old smelt mill chimney. The stream from the Tarn reappears further down the valley.
You're not wrong Dean, it doesn't flow over the top often but when it does its normally been tanking it down. One of my favourite areas this stretch. Oh and mines the Herdwicks 😉
Great video, I also thought of highlander when you said that guys name 😂😂 some beautiful locations you passed though just a shame the visibility was poor 😢 I’m a little behind on vids now as I’m Just back from a weekend away with family, so I’ll be catching up over the next couple of days 😎 Thanks for sharing Atb Mark
Fantastic Dean, even if the weather is inclement it's still a wonderful area. Not appropriate for you to use Holme Farm (the Horton in Ribblesdale camp-site) on this occasion, but it's run by a true Yorkshire Gentleman/Legend,the 80 odd year old Chris Sutcliffe,he's an absolute character.
@@DeanRead I'm chuffed to bits that you've spent some time in his company. On one of our regular (yearly) Three Peaks Adventures Chris insisted we had a drink with him..as a non-spirits drinker I had a can of lager...my mate ,however, had a huge "tot" of Monkey Shoulder whisky and I think ,at the time,it was about £30 a bottle. He really is a fantastic fella.
Wild camped around Malham Tarn many times. Go in the local pubs on a Friday night and there are loads of 'undercover' wild campers waiting to break cover 😀
I sure dont know how you are keeping going my friend I'm tired watching you Walking up a Hill in the Rain No thanks Dean Pal keep them coming yeah how many more Vlogs till you Finish pal ???? Best Foot Forward all my Best David
Have, ou tried to use an OTG USB C card adapter to transfer the files to your phone? That is way faster, but I only did it with RAW photos, so far. Now, I am off for the next episode 😬
Excellent vid. Tough going but you stayed upbeat. You were talking about the Scottish man who said don't let the rain put you off. When I was in the Irish army the gear we had during training was terrible (done on purpose) but I always remember when we were soaked through and obviously looking miserable they would scream at us that our skin was waterproof, no sympathy. Thanks for sharing, looking forward to the next one. Take care.
It's a Rab firestorm something or other :-) I've had it a couple of years. I'd recommend checking out their factory shop near Alfreton in Derbyshire if you are looking for a jacket as they have huge discounts there. All the best, Dean.
Awesome video Dean. I’m thinking of doing this hike some time soon. You think October is a good month to do it? And what’s the average price of hostels along the route? I’m really enjoying these videos, Is my new morning routine now lol. Cheers! Irving from NY
Thoroughly enjoying watching your video diary of this trip, even better knowing it's happening now! Inspiring stuff. Can I ask, are there any job vacancies where you work? You seem to have amazing annual leave entitlement! ;-) Looking forward to the next episode, keep going!
Another great video and looking forward to seeing the rest. The weather was abit harsh but you pushed through. What's the average price of the hostels?
On the Pennine Way I used Asics Fujitrabuco 7s. Although, now days I use Inov-8 Terra Ultra G 270s for trail running and hiking. I would highly recommend checking those out. Thanks for watching
I'm happy to report that the moment I stopped filming I put that bottle in my bag and took it down to recycle at the pub 😎👍 Rob can be my witness to that too haha
Favourite sheep ? You're on dodgy ground there. Part walk, part masochism but most of us have done the same. My wife wont allow my boots in the house occasionally. Don't know what her problem is. Keep striding out young man. This is excellent viewing and I suspect some of us are with you by proxy.
Thank you!
Thanks for watching

Had a few horrendous days on the Pennine Way over the years, never regret a good day out on the moors and mountains though
Great video Dean.
Thanks Marty
I'm so glad you overcame the demons of the past by taking it on again. Seems you really beat yourself up over it. However you put that to bed, well done mate amazing 👍
Thanks Michael, I’m so glad I went back and completed it

Big massive thumbs up Dean ,another great blog even over the wet and windy penny gent looking forward to the next one have a good sleep knite knite
Beautiful scenery even with the rain. Could not believe how many tents were pitched. As ever, the sheep were out and about.
It's so beautiful there! I'm american but my ancestors are from Yorkshire.

Probably the best hiking videos I've seen. Nice one, Dean. Makes me think (again) about getting back to the P Way.
Love the vids mate ✌️👍 you top of my suggestions all the time now 😁

The weather for today should be really sunny for you Dean! That Bonnie Banks remix by the way was hilarious! 😂
The real beauty of nature.^^
The Landscape is Wonderful.
I enjoyed watching your vids.
Thank you.
That was a tough day with grueling weather nice that you had company to see you through. Good luck with the next stages.
Great vlogs Dean, will follow you all the way. Good luck.

Malham is awesome ! Gotta get up there soon with my brother. Shame about the weather on your last part of this chapter.
Fantastic video, thank you so much!!

Great video weather not to kind for that one but didn’t dampen your spirits keep them coming
It's amazing that you're able to keep high spirits in such conditions. Thanks for inspiration and good luck! Seb
Great video! couldn't think of Owt better to walk to than a bit of dire straits
Great video, I also thought of highlander when you said that guys name 😂😂 some beautiful locations you passed though just a shame the visibility was poor 😢

Chris is such a nice guy, I've stayed there a few times. I stayed there in October this year for a night while walking Gargrave to Hardraw.
On our first Pennine Way adventure my friend and I shared a bottle of whiskey with Chris in his office / shack. It was a truly memorable evening

Morning Deano. Great vlog as always. Hope day 7vis drier for you mate 👍
Absolutely loving these videos, you've inspired me to take the challenge on myself! Keep it up dude :)
I stayed at the Golden Lion Hotel, they did or still do a great pack lunch
Have, ou tried to use an OTG USB C card adapter to transfer the files to your phone? That is way faster, but I only did it with RAW photos, so far. Now, I am off for the next episode 😬
Tried a couple of card reader scenarios now with my Pixel 2 XL and none of them work :-(
Good to see the weather is welcoming. Nice to see the limestone pavement, writing a 2500 word literature review on the subject.
Excellent vid. Tough going but you stayed upbeat. You were talking about the Scottish man who said don't let the rain put you off. Great video, one question: Are you still using this editing method? What do you recommend?
I use iMovie on my Mac the rest of the time, only use KineMaster when I'm editing on the move like this trip
Some pretty unpleasant weather conditions on Day 6. Well done.
Another great vid Dean, keep iit up!! Can I ask what make you jacket is??
It's a Rab firestorm something or other :-) I've had it a couple of years. I'd recommend checking out their factory shop near Alfreton in Derbyshire if you are looking for a jacket as they have huge discounts there. All the best, Dean.

I did Malham couple of weeks ago when we had storms.. epic fail.. even my gopro got water in it.
Thoroughly enjoying watching your video diary of this trip, even better knowing it's happening now! Inspiring stuff. Can I ask, are there any job vacancies where you work? You seem to have amazing annual leave entitlement! ;-) Looking forward to the next episode, keep going!
Must have been an early start to be that deserted
Another great video and looking forward to seeing the rest. The weather was abit harsh but you pushed through. What's the average price of the hostels?
Interested in doing this, what's your footwear? Presumably trail running shoes.
On the Pennine Way I used Asics Fujitrabuco 7s. Although, now days I use Inov-8 Terra Ultra G 270s for trail running and hiking. I would highly recommend checking those out. Thanks for watching
Shorts are for winners! Wet legs dry and wet trousers are a pain.
Apparently the bad weather was due to the remnants of Caribbean storm Dorian crossing the UK . Still packing a punch.
Great video Dean ps with the shorts is your new job a post man
I'm just wondering hows he going to come back home lol ???
At 12:16 so sad to see that some idiot had jammed an empty plastic bottle in to the wall.
I'm happy to report that the moment I stopped filming I put that bottle in my bag and took it down to recycle at the pub 😎👍 Rob can be my witness to that too haha
I thought you would have done that, I often come back from walks carrying more wrappers etc then when I started.
hi dean
