I really appreciate that you, and Brian Lagerstrom, generally present multiple ways of doing stuff. Like you COULD make it from scratch, or you could grab a store-bought ingredient and 'spruce it up a bit.' I have been doing that a LOT. It saves so much time/effort/money.
Love me some frito pie! In Arizona we had something very similar called "walking tacos." You cut alongside the chip bag, put your toppings in, mix and eat straight out of the bag.
This reminds me a bit of the series you did with your brother. You would send him out to get fast food items & would make the same home made version in the same amount of time 🤙
Back in the 70's we used to go down to the local Dairy Queen Brazier for Frito Pies served right in the bag they came in! Brings back great memories! DQ used the same chili that they used for chili dogs. Mandatory topping was Longhorn Cheddar and onions.
Ah frito pie, what a classic! I will say though that I prefer original Fritos for them. The problem the chili cheese ones have is that their chili flavor can clash with the chili sauce used.
Frito pie is my comfort food. I go all out with New Mexico red chile sauce thickened with a light roux, then fortified with beans, garlic, onion, and ground beef.
"store bought Fritos" does imply the existance of hand-made Fritos, what dark secrets are you hiding?! how deep does the conspiracy go? (thank you for the beanless Chilli recipe tho}
Love this! Would love to see a video on how you care for your wood cutting board! Always hesitant to break out our nice wood cutting board because I’m not super comfy cleaning/maintaining it.
Frito pie is awesome - not on my diet these days, but even just the old-school way of dropping a layer of Fritos into a baking dish topping it with a layer of Hormel chili, chopped white onion and shredded cheddar and then repeating with a 2nd layer of everything and baking it off for 30-45 minutes is always a crowd pleaser.
@@tinyfishhobby3138 really depends on how much chili you use on each layer - but if you prefer them super crunchy, just put them in long enough for the cheese to melt and probably use a bit less onion, since it'll basically be raw - of course, I like raw onion on it and I'd typically drown my own serving in tabasco sauce as well
Just found out about this channel. Been a long time fan Ethan, so glad to see you doing more! It seems you don't have a recipe on here that uses rice yet?
im not one to usually give unsolited feedback but if i can make a suggestion... you might consider restating the format of the channel at the top or put a subtitle on the title card. The value of this channel is understanding that you can cook and even clean as you go and still have creative delicious meals in less time than you realize. i'd hate for new comers to not get that right away
I've made my share of it when I needed to produce a meal quickly. I can't imagine paying money for Frito pie. Then again, I have bought "nachos" at events that were basically tortilla chips and crummy cheese sauce and hated myself for spending money on it because I didn't plan my day very well.
frito pies are usually made at home or at tail gates. (chili sauce needs at little bit of cumin). problem with a lot of canned sauces are the are mostly tomato sauces with a little chili
This pleases my inner Fatty McFatFat. I definitely want to make this. It's in the same category as the Chef Boyardee I mixed with Japanese curry roux today.
Damn and I just finished off my bag of honey bbq twists the other day lol I don’t remember which somewhat famous chef said not to use flavored Fritos in frito pie but whoever they are I think they are stupid. A little more flavor never hurt nobody
do you recall the temperature you smoked that chuck roast to? The small vid of you pulling it, and it looked like it could have gone longer, as it pulled a little tough/stiff.
Add salt, brown over high heat, add a little tomato paste and a bunch of spices (Chili powder, cumin, garlic powder). Mix together then pour over the enchilada sauce!
What's up with the titles ending in .exe recently? .exe is for executable files, and now a days, .exe programs are synonymous with computer viruses, which is why you are always advised never to click on any downloaded .exe files. Every time I see a video of yours titled with .exe, I feel like I shouldn't click on it.
What else could you use for this other than Fritos? It's not available here. Doritos? Or just plain tortilla chips? What's the flavor and texture like?
Fritos have much more of a corn chip flavor and harder crunch than a dorito. They are more designed to use on dips. Seasoned Corn Chips are what you’re looking for
Being confused what Fritos are till the very end when he says Corn chips, as I thought he was using pasta snacks or something. 😅 Con of being from Sweden where I have never seen or heard of those. Looks yummy tho.
Where I'm from, frito pie is an actual pie! Ish. Usually it's something crescent roll-esque (buttery and flaky) for a crust, filled with refried beans and your choice of vaguely Mexican-inspired meat, topped with crushed fritos and cheese and baked to heat it through/finish the crust.
I’m in Iowa so clearly I’m more in favor of the walking taco. That being said I much prefer plain Fritos with chili. No cilantro for me though, tastes like soap. If you are serving a big group- you can use canned Black bean soup for the vegetarians. It’s already seasoned, just drain the beans a bit.
Only Americans would drench ultra-processed snacks with ultra-processed condiments, and call it a meal. Just put the meat between two slices of bread, and eat it, dude.

just a little garlic powder lol
A little bit never hurt 😂
Ethan: Just a little garlic powder
Also Ethan: Dumps in 8 tablespoons of garlic powder
Glad his "little bit of garlic" is the same as mine XD
That was a “two shots of vodka” pour if I’ve ever seen one.
I’d have done the same
Ethan got a sponsorship from the garlic folks 😜

Definitely one of the dishes I miss most from Austin. Thanks for the inspiration - I might whip up a batch of this over the weekend!
Of course Ethan likes it - it's essentially a variety of chilaquilles
Ah frito pie, what a classic! I will say though that I prefer original Fritos for them. The problem the chili cheese ones have is that their chili flavor can clash with the chili sauce used.
As a Texan, I've never seen a Frito Pie with flavored chips, or one with enchilada sauce instead of chilli. I'm fascinated.
When I was like 21, I worked overnight in a convenience store. I used to make nachos every night with the Honey Barbecue Fritos Twists.
Frito pie is my comfort food. I go all out with New Mexico red chile sauce thickened with a light roux, then fortified with beans, garlic, onion, and ground beef.
I dunno why but it gives me a giggle when I read one your titles with .exe or whatever. So, thanks for that. Great videos!
Genuine Texas frito pie.exe uses Wolf brand chili. Yours looks excellent though!

Love that Humble House brand hot sauce! Everything from them I've tried is great, but I particularly love that guajillo and red jalapeno one!
2007 was the absolute peak of snacking technology, Honey BBQ Fritos and Jalepeno Cheetos were both released and changed the game.

This is the kind of dish you should make extra of because leftovers the next day are amazing!
I stick with the regular unflavored style. Most of the flavored ones are way too salty and overpowering.
I am sure that is very tasty!💚A Texas start to Holiday Cooking!🌟
For me, this is more walking taco (minus the walking) than Frito pie. That uses chili, but hey - looks great.
