In terms of agriculture infrastructure was pretty much in place after Japan left Taiwan after WWII. From my personal experience from being living through that period where American Aid was present in Taiwan, the American aid was mainly used for the support of government's ability to maintain the military capacity. There were some portions of the American aid did flow into Taiwanese commerce to some extent but not significant. Taiwan's success has its root in its hardworking culture and the emphasis on education.

The help from the United States has indeed made a certain contribution to Taiwan's economic development. But why is the economic development of the Philippines, which also receives help from the United States, far behind Taiwan?I believe that the hard-working, intelligent and ambitious people of Taiwan, as well as the government’s correct economic leadership, are the keys to Taiwan’s prosperity.Generally speaking, the United States has indeed made certain contributions to Taiwan's economy and military. As a Taiwanese, I would like to express my gratitude to the United States. Thank you America.

During the 60’s, US used Taiwan as military base station for Vietnam war and Korean War. There was no economic support for the civilians. All the money went to Chiang Kai Shek to enforce Marshall law and suppress Taiwanese wellbeing thus debilitated economic growth until his passing.

I am Taiwanese, and I do not like this video, as it seems to illustrate America's arrogant charity that supposedly allowed Taiwan to achieve economic growth. In reality, when the Kuomintang was defeated, the United States did not provide active assistance; instead, it attempted to support a puppet regime. The aid given after the outbreak of the Korean War was merely to prevent the expansion of communism that could threaten America's domestic security. Of course, this assistance alleviated the impending credit crisis of the defeated regime, but Taiwan has always been treated as a pawn and a satellite state of the United States. When necessary, there will be exchanges of these pawns, such as during the normalization of relations between the U.S. and China.
Any aid that does not generate economic circulation is merely a windfall. This video attempts to create a narrative that Japan, South Korea, and Taiwan became developed countries solely due to American assistance, deliberately ignoring the efforts made by East Asian countries for their own national development.
I do not hate the United States, but if Americans take their hegemony for granted, their arrogance will ultimately be detrimental to themselves.
In the eyes of the Taiwanese, so-called military assistance is merely the protection money we pay in exchange for a bunch of second-hand and outdated products, without any promises, stationed troops, or any real assistance.

Sure there's a lot of interest by the US government in Taiwan because it's become a colony (neocolonialism) of the US while America did everything it can to suppressed Japan's economic growth during the 1980's-2020's. Otherwise Japan would be the world's largest economy by now.

It's not precise to say that the ROC government "retreated" to Taiwan since "retreat" means you pull back to where you departed, which is not the case for the ROC government.
In fact, they were defeated by the Communists in the civil war so they had no choice but "fled" to Taiwan.

Many Taiwanese do thank US for the helps all these years. Other than some of these arguments in this video, one of the much influential factors provided by the US are those Taiwanese obtaining high level education (including those engineering training from US). Adding these and the highly motivated Taiwanese people, these factors do help Taiwan becoming one of the major important roles in today's economic world. However, there are still a lot of important aids that Taiwanese are needed from the US. Among them, the most important thing is that US shall back up Taiwan by formally recognizing the status quo that Taiwan is a truly independent country requiring US's formal recognition and the support of the formal international legal back up from all the democratic international society.

Frankly it is like a long term investment. By selling weapons to Taiwan at an unreasonable high price, the U.S. would have gotten the aid back already. Not that I am not appreciate, without the U.S., Taiwan would have lost to China long ago.
