“Umgidi”

On 16 September 2022, Stellenbosch University PhD student Nduduzo Makhathini performed at the Konservatorium as part of his integrated music PhD - which recognises artistic performance as a contribution to the body of knowledge. Entitled “Umgidi” the performance was billed as a “ritual meditation”. We spoke to Nduduzo about the power of collaboration, and how his performance activated the university’s Konservatorium as an inclusive and sanctified space.
