I was about 8 when this song came out and remember it all over US radio. I liked it...but thought it was kind of weird and the "barking dog synths" as I used to call them annoyed me. I'm still a huge 80's music fan, though in my teens and 20's I really got into classic rock (60's and 70's) as well as 90's grunge/alt that was popular in high school. But in my 30's I started "nostalgiaing" as I say and went back and started listening to so much "cheesy" 80's pop/rock/metal from my childhood, revisiting barely remembered songs, full albums, and even discographies from supposed "one hit wonders" that turned out to have many great songs or even albums (just two: Alphaville's *Forever Young* is one hell of a great album with every song a near classic, and A Flock of Seagulls first self titled album is fantastic with many classic tracks), as well as even discovering new-to-me groups (especially in the soul/rnb/funk/rap genres). So I sat down and listened to all of Kate Bush's output, from '78's *The Kick Inside* to '11's *50 Words for Snow*, about 5 years ago and...while she's still not quite my thing (like Laurie Anderson I find her a little too experimental or "out there" for my taste in pop or pop rock; I like experimental jazz or ambient, but not pop/pop rock), I recognize her as a unique talent and when I'm in the mood I do really like many of her songs and will even listen to a full album every so often. My favorite is probably '89's The Sensual World.

As a fan of Kate's since the 1980s, I am jazzed by the attention she is garnering today. I just hope the kids who are only now discovering her don't stop at just this song, because her musical canon is such a deep and wonderful thing to explore.
Sometimes I get the feeling that the people back then did not realize what they had. This woman was a genius, she wrote her music, she produced and stylized her videos, and her voice just stays with you. I believe she was way ahead of her time. We love you, Kate.
Oh no, we actually knew!! But I get the feeling you’re not off that time so you wouldn’t know first hand. We people that were teenagers and young adults in the 80’s we get to enjoy it twice!!! I’m happy it’s coming back around. They should do that with a LOT of our music from back then!

If you just discovered this - realize that you're missing out on SO MUCH MORE music that exists and just isn't played via main channels of discovery for most people. Its kind of funny that so many people just discovered this song because of Stranger Things
I was 14 when this song came out. Fell in love with it and her! Still love her voice! Thank you Duffer Brothers for bringing her back to another generation of music lovers.
Who would have thought a song which was released 37 years ago would shatter music chart today? This song is highly magical and soul captivating. I'm glad the universe brought it back to limelight through Stranger Things. Thank you Kate Bush
everyone one uses voice tuning including people in the 80s but it's actually used to clean up the voice people just complain about it now since SoundCloud rappers crank it up to use more stylistically
The 80s were a special time for music and it warms my heart that a newer generation is discovering that. May the beautiful sounds of the 80s live on. For me, the synths are what really make it the most special.
@Mark Carthy Yes, I know and I'm a fan of synthwave and chillwave and all the remixes over the last 40 years. Not sure what you're trying to argue about. But original 80s new wave and italo disco (check it out) is not the same as modern remakes based on it. I will celebrate the original old tracks being rediscovered again and again and your "It's nothing new" poopy attitude isn't going to stop me. LOL Also check out Giorgio Moroder.
I remember discovering this song in 2005 when I was 19 and I thought, “this song is old, but it’s so good!” I’m so happy a whole new generation gets to experience old school Kate Bush :)

Hey I’m 12 and it’s one of my favs too. Because my dad was in his teens in the 80s (he was born in 1972) he listens to all the 80s music, now I love 80s music too. It’s all so good!
I was 20 when this song came out and as I am living my life now in 2021, I would give anything to be stuck in a time loop of 5 years from either side of 1985 for perpetuity. Probably the only ten years of my life that I actually enjoyed living. I seriously doubt that going forward from this point will hold any joy for me.
Hang in there. There is great beauty and joy in nature. Get outside, go for a walk in the woods, get to a shore or riverside. That and we have great music to listen to like Kate Bush.

1000000% playback. People lipsynced ALOT back in the day. Contrary to the popular belief that lip syncing has become something artists do in the modern day. The truth is that people probably lip sync less these days
Shout out to the Duffer Brothers for painstakingly depicting the 80’s music and style as they really were,in a small town, back then. It wasn’t all “valley girls”and over the top fashions. I wasn't around in the 80s but about 20 years ago my mum introduced me to Kate Bush when I was young. She had all her LPs and I used to listen to them all the time. Even though I was born in the 90s, the 80s has such a massive amount of nostalgia for me, even though I never actually got to live through it. She's lip syncing for sure, but that's not her fault. That was standard for most televised performances of the time. There are some recordings of her singing live at a piano from this era, and she doesn't sound *exactly* like the studio-produced vocals, but she has an extraordinary voice that doesn't rely on studio wizardry.

Kate Bush was the first of a very unique group of women to come out. Tori Amos, when she came out many years later she was told by her record company to go release her album in England, because they liked Kate Bush, and the American record company couldn't understand what Tori was about! Lady Kate opened the door for so many woman to do different things, to really experiment.
Atlantic/East West Records also seems to have styled and produced Tori, both with Y Kant Tori Read and Little Earthquakes to physically and sonically resemble Kate, and that's a shame because she was thought by many Kate Bush fans to be an inferior imitator. Tori is an exceptional, extraordinary and insightful artist in her own right, and comparisons between the two are legitimate but almost entirely superficial. They're very little alike when you listen to them except that they are similarly singular visionary artists whose music is steeped in wonder and empathy.
When I watch videos like this, I so wish I could build a Time Machine and go back to the glory days of my youth. I loved Kate's music since the 70s and still do in 2019.

Something similar here! I discovered her right after my dad passed away. Her music has been my safe place for years.
The 80's were the best. It's actually good this generation is finding this music. Because there will never be anything like it ever again. Glad I grew up in that era. Kid in the 80s teen in the 90s. Best generation. Gen X
Kid in the 70’s grew up in the 80’s 🙏
I'm jealous of you guys!!
Also a kid in the 80's and teen in the 90's (Gen Y/Millenial) I would say Millenials (born in 81 to mid 90's) are just as good of a generation as gen X
Honestly wish I could say the same. Glad you did, it sounded amazing
@@MaidenViking_ as a 1990'er I would have to agree that OUR generation was one of the best. we started out in the 90s playing outside and being "kids" and then we got to see almost ALL of the modern technology advances in our lifetimes. We got to see the ADVANCEMENT of technology gradually.
kids born in like 2000's and after ONLY know like HD 1080p gaming and always being online.
She's certainly one of the most unique and creative women in the history of music and she wrote and produced every one of her songs unbelievable talent and the fact she was doing all that in the 1970s and 1980s is more impressive for me she's one of the great talents of the last 50 years
everything about this song is just lovely, the lyrics , the music , her voice etc.. this song makes me feel like I’m floating. It’s Beautiful.
it's literally a song about something terrible
@ it doesn’t matter whether it’s written on anything good or bad my point is that the lyrics are written beautifully. And let me correct you there it’s not “terrible” it’s her wanting to make a deal with god. So don’t go around saying this type of stuff.
@@jordynjacobss1797 exactly.
if you feel like you’re floating you’re probably not. you’re probably levitating please wake up we don’t know your fave song

Blessed to be brought back to this masterpiece
thanks to winona ryder
I never realized how stunningly beautiful she is. Her music is incredible!! What a talent!
im only 21 but i grew up w parents who loved kate bush and would always play her, been listening to her throughout my whole teens and she truly is a masterpiece 🥹
The USA Network did a profile of Kate Bush after this song became a hit in the States. My mother hated the song and other Kate Bush music because it wasn't like every other song she ever heard.
I can’t believe this song is back.. never thought it would see the attention is deserved. I first heard this on an episode of Bones. Placebo covered it, and it was awesome. Then I became a fan of the this original and I was like “ok I totally get why placebo covered this”. Such a great song
this was like a huge song in the 80s why are y’all acting like it’s underrated
how can't you believe it? just cause it was on stranger things, doesn't mean it was irrelevant

The expressions in her face while singing!!! Leaving all in the scenary, u can notice shes really into the song

@@Bouncy03 ask stranger what disguise you. cant you notice her expressions? watch her..
@@chonkeich8473 It's not live, she's clearly uncomfortable.
idk

Look at her expression at 0:51 - 0:55 , it might be a small thing, but its a thing of beauty and uniqueness. A great performer!
Don't forget Laurie Anderson.
Björk and Sinéad O'Connor were also infuenced by Kate Bush.
She Is a pretty Girl I so care
I am obsessed with the band's synchronized steps forward with the beat of the song
Awful song, awful message, disgusting human beings liking this garbage.
Same. It's very 80s. I think Queen did similar things in some vids of theirs, can't remember which. It's simple but beautiful.
Powerful for such a simple thing to have that effect.
Orginal music video is even better
They were all part of a first history for her song and now we’re living the second comeback 💕😝
Third cos it was a hit for Olympics
This is not a comeback. The comeback was in 2014 when she finally played this (and many others) live.
I cannot stop listening to and watching this video. That swag with that “forward step” at the beginning of each verse of the chorus is 👌🏿.
🙏
Same! I’m living for the choreography, her facial expressions and that voice
I’m a rock and roller and this song just got a “hook”. I was surprised I never paid attention all these years till stranger things
Peter Gabriel vibes 😎
Good music ages well. Good music sounds great in any generation. She was a bit ahead of her time, but it is also just a great song.
The Beat is very addictive and her voice is very unique, my God i got chills when I heard it first, made me realize this generation of music got nothing on them old songs back then
Yes, the current stuff is mostly garbage. It's sad.
I don't remember that song at all
This song gives me chills and my mind gets overrun with emotions. Brings back memories of the past and present. She is a beautiful woman and would love to see her perform this live.
Yes!
I feel it
This song is so relevant and so good to see her get her due!
you are real legend 👍😎
So lucky i got to see her play this live in 2014. Can only hope she’ll play live again.
Did she lip sync in 2014 like she did here?
