Great video, thanks. One thing I noticed is that you don't have to hit shift to send effects, you only need to hit shift to see which stems the effects are active on.

Is there somewhere mapping for Kontrol F1 like the one used in this video? Separating: kick,vocal etc. from audio track is very cool, but I don´t know how to mapp it to my own controller...does someone have the solution?
Right on time sir!!!! I just switched BACK to Traktor. I still have a Numark 4Trak that I almost can't give away... LOL! Anyway, I bought the F1, X1 and Z1 cause I wanted to challenge myself with a newer way to DJ along with the DDJ-SX I have which is Serato based. I truly appreciate this video and I do understand this process quite a bit better. Manuals are good for detailed things but these TH-cam videos from different folks are the WAY TO GO!!!! Thanks DDJT for this. PEACE

i have a vms 4.1 too but i have some extra midi controllers too my setup now:
akai lpd8= remix deck D
nano kontrol 2=stems/effects
nano pad 2= extra cues eand other buttons
vms 4.1 mixer+ deck control+ pitch control
so my vms 4.1 doesnt have any knobs encoders or faders left
so if you want to use stems buy a nano kontrol 2 download my mapping on djtt and get yourself fun with stems for just 40 box!

Quick question what is better S8 or S4 with 2x F1. I am planning on getting mine 1e set and i am having a dilemma on what to buy. I am gonna be playing HipHop, Uk Garage, Afro house, deep house and Dancehall. I really like the Stems and mix deck on the S8. Will i get the same effect with S4 and 2x F1. It would be much cheaper than S4 with 2x D2...

whether it is possible to work simultaneously with remix deck and stems? for example deck A stemps, deck D remix set!?
Dumb question:
Can I just use the F1 as a sample trigger while playing tracks and mixing with the X1 and Z1? Or would there be an easier way to do that? I'm not keep on jumping to the computer so if could could have it all loaded up, that would be awesome.
Do I need a mapping for the F1 to do so?
If I plug in the F1 and assign it to a STEMS-Deck nothing's Gong work !?

Great video! Thanks. I tried and worked out great but I'm having some trouble controlling the FX on F1. I turned them up on traktor like you said but after that I can't control them on F1. They're always on...

Can use anything other than the S8 in joint with the f1 to extract stems from a track? Such as cdjs or mixers?
+Julian Marcus Thanks for your question, and sorry for the delay in response. You can definitely use the S8 and F1 as mentioned, as well as the Kontrol D2 (basically one section of the S8). how did u set up the f1 in order to run beside deca A???? i have a hercules rmx2 and i wanna set up the f1 together but i couldn't have done :/ does anyone can help me

+frank marfetan You'll have to import a Traktor mapping for the RMX2 (since it's not a natively supported controller) - I'd just do a quick search for that and download the tsi file, and import into the software. The Kontrol F1 will connect to laptop/Traktor Pro directly (one channel of your main controller will be linked to the F1 as a Remix Deck). The F1 is designed as a "plug and play" device so you'll just connect it to a USB port on your laptop (no audio interface necessary). Hi, so i have a s4. and just recently got an f1 to utilize stems. when i plug my f1 in it does not let me choose my deck i want it to play on unless there are remix decks set up. How do I fix that?
If you haven't done so, you hold shift on your f1 and then you use the loop encoder button and turn to swap decks
Sorry for the question, but all the things that you made here, with your F1 controller, for me, wiht my F1 and my traktor s4mk2, doesn't work! You know why?

***** did you see the artist mock up of traktor 3 i really enjoyed that, with them releasing the tool for making stems will you guys be coming out with anymore producer centric stuff i remember giving feedback on the last one and you guys sending me an email on how what i wanted to see done with it i think joe made it a for part series on using ableton and sample packs

does that mean the stems audio waves (split into 4 tracks) can only be seen on the D2 or S8 screens? noticed that the stem in this example just looked like a single track mp3
just had to do a bit more reading, Phil. thanks again for the review: "With these controllers, the on-board controller screen shows you four separate, colour-coded waveforms, so you can easily see what's coming up in each section of the track. It's important to note that the laptop display in Traktor looks like any normal file, so you do need to look at the controller screens to get this info." -- I wonder why NI decided to do this, though?
Mike Ash Probably for speed of getting it to market. We expect Stems waveforms on a future version of Traktor.

Mike Ash Yes, the 4 waveform display can only be seen on the S8 and the D2.
after i put in the stem track, my f1 wont switch to that deck because it doesn't recognize it as an option like the remix deck, any ideas?

You can use Stems w/ an F1 but believe you'll need a second unit to control another deck
when or where can we get access of most of the music from major labels because all i found till now was few tracks on beatport and its only dance music ...
+helder miglietti In addition to Beatport, you can find stems through Traxsource, Juno, whatpeopleplay, and Wasabeat, although more online stores are beginning to join. Hope this helps!

+helder miglietti Doing a quick search, it doesn't seem there are many options at the moment, but I imagine this will change as this relatively new format grows more popular. In the meantime, you can look for remix contests that offer free stems, Soundcloud (potentially), hip hop/R&B loops, and acapellas. Good luck!

+Lorenz Kroneisl You are correct - the Kontrol F1 doesn't have a built-in soundcard, though it should work connected to your laptop. Have a read through the manual to get a basic idea of all the functions, or go directly through the company. Sorry Steve (our resident Traktor expert) is away at the moment, if you've checked the manual already and followed the steps in there I'd suggest asking for help on the NI forum :)

So wait, you can just load any track you want and stems will automatically know how to remove vocals, drums, ect.? Does that mean you could essentially record an accapella or instrumental off any song?
DJ BMurda No, you need to buy dedicated Stems files.
You have to wait for the stem creator to come out 1st. Then make it a stem file, then import it to Traktor.

Mac Joseph Stem Creator dos not let you convert a normal MP3 into a stem file. Stem creator allows create new songs in Stem format.

How do you use F1 for track deck for me it is does not work if i choose track deck.
The F1 is mainly used for Remix Decks and for launching clips stored in those Remix Decks :) That means it's not mapped by default to take control of the Traktor virtual decks
They're on offer for £99 with Native Instruments 🎧😉
Update traktor now has stem view in gui.
